Wow. What hopeful segments! What struck me most is the reflection and wisdom from the WW2 veterans. Thank you for this story... and for sharing theirs.

Calm down, you have nothing to worry about! Remember when ATMs were developed, and the banking industry assured us they wouldn't replace anybody. I laugh about that every time I walk into a branch that consists of nothing BUT ATMs!

Reinventing the shopping cart is cool, but is anyone else worried about how much data these smart carts might be collecting on us?
@jonathanrhuntАй бұрын
If you use a rewards card with a grocery retailer, they're already collecting all the info they want. This cart is just an extension of that existing process.

It’s a cash register on wheels. It’s collecting the same information on you that is collected at a normal register-just in a different location.

@mskimlouise This is how jobs have disappeared in America, and the savings are not passed to the consumers. On the other hand, the data collected might give supermarkets to understand consumer behavior. Once you scan an item, AI will record the transaction but once you change your mind and leave the behind the item that information will be collected too. We exchange privacy for convenience.
@mskimlouiseАй бұрын
@ I agree with part of your statements. Stores have been collecting an analyzing purchasing data for years. Walmart has been doing it for decades and probably has perfected it. Regarding the loss of jobs in America, I can speak directly to my lived experience on that. I have worked in workforce development for a decade. Technology almost always create jobs even when people think jobs are being eliminated. For example, people will be needed to continue the engineering, development of, manufacturing, and delivery of these new shopping carts. Someone, a lot of someones, will have to learn how to maintain them and fix them when they malfunction. This will create more jobs. They will just be different jobs.

I wont shop at places with smart carts. They pass the cost on to consumers in higher prices. Case in point....Amazon Fresh Stores have ridiculously high prices. From the looks of their empty store aisles, people agree and are shopping elsewhere.

I got to Kansas City on a Friday; By Saturday, I learned a thing or two; For up to then I didn't have an idy; Of what the modern world was comin' to; I counted twenty shopping buggies counting by themselves; Almost every time I took a walk; Then I put my ear to my cellular telephone; And a strange AI woman started to talk; Everythings up to date in Kansas City; They've gone about as far as they can go😅😅😅.

Criminals are going to love this cart, as they will steal people's CC information right on the cart. Once, they place a fake cap on top of the payment unit. This is going to get crazy. I'll make sure I don't use this cart. If a criminal can put a fake unit right on the cashiers line, and on bank ATM's, what's stopping them from doing it on shopping carts that are going to be left alone in parking lots. This is going to wreak severe havoc in many stores. And banks are going to hate it. Because we can't have nice things without criminals ruining it for everyone.

Using AI for customer service should be boycotted. Boycott any company that uses AI for customer service. They need to hire more people, not less. The turn over is high because they keep a minimal staff, which results in angry customers, which results in a high turn over. Nothing drives me into a rage quicker than dealing with customer service and being forced to navigate a web of automated menus with AI thrown into the mix.

22:20 "Leave the rest to God" Pretty rich, considering their talking about extending a man's career artificially! Reminds me of when a couple has in vitro fertilization, resulting in sextuplets with complications, when they refuse to reduce the number of embryos as recommended. When criticized, they often retort: it was God's will. No,,, God's will was that you not get pregnant! The stroke could have killed you Randy. How about just saying "I had a great career", and anything you hear is me! "To every season....."
