In 2013 country singer Randy Travis suffered a massive stroke, which paralyzed his right side and damaged an area of his brain that controls speech and language. He has not quite recovered the ability to sing, but working with singer James DuPre and a computer program that creates an AI-generated version of his voice, Travis and his longtime producer Kyle Lehning have created a new song, "Where That Came From," that captures Randy's country heart. Lee Cowan reports.

Say it clear! Randy gave his blessings, because he needs money for further therapies! But that's o.k.! This is the one side! The other side is: You can see and hear, how easy everybody can be replaced by AI! And this is frightening in my opinion!

@@dietmarsteiner1070 What you missed about this is that HUMANS had to intervene and play with the AI to make it "right." @@dietmarsteiner1070 this is the same thing people said about cars in the beginning. It’s only scary because it’s different. This is the best use case for AI, helping those with disabilities get at least some part of their life back. @@dietmarsteiner1070 Thanks for the clarification. I agree, there are bad uses for AI, just as there are with lots of things, like cars. This video is hella creepy. It is a public service announcement to everyone who recognizes Randy's hand gesture at the end there. He is a shell of the man he once was. That man was dead. Why would he need someone to sing his songs and match them with A.I. technology. AI could have used 30 seconds of any of his old songs and created a Randy Travis song. I think its punishment. My old mentor Darrell Phillips worked with every artist in the music industry in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. He was in charge of all the concerts that took place at the River Center and Super Dome. He told me when I was 19 that Randy Travis was the worst of all the bands, the rappers, pop stars... I asked him who was the best person(their character) and who was the worst. He said Randy Travis was abusive to people under him and was always trying not to pay. I am not judging. I am just trying to figure out why this blatant abuse of an old man and his life's work is being celebrated and used to control other artists.

@@morbidmanmusic That AI needed HIS VOICE in order to complete the project. It had EVERYTHING to do with his voice ... It gives Randy a piece of his life back that he lost many years ago. The happiness that he exudes is worth it all!! Some singers don't even have any of the instruments to make a song... It's all computerized, and nobody says anything about them. And in some cases, there is a mic that will make you sound AMAZING... Many use them. So, whatever it takes, to make it work... Awesome. But when Randy first started singing, he had it all. And it was his voice that set him apart from everyone.

Normally I like the goofy things people can use AI for (like making Elvis song Baby got Back). Then I lament that some of them are so good, it’s a bit frightening. However, given that Randy worked on this with his team because he lost something he is passionate about…well, that’s pretty awesome. And this is the difference between all those goofy little generators and generations you find scoured online: this is the man himself, working with his team, painstakingly trying to craft new music with Randy’s pipes-and you see a lot of REAL goes into that.

Y’all are missing the issue here. They say “he’s singing again” but he’s not. A robot that sounds like him is. It’s not him, it’s not even human. Music is about doing what you can to the best of your ability with the tools you have (look at Bob Dylan, no one would ever pick him for a solo at the opera yet he’s considered the greatest). Even though it was thin compared to how he was, his rendition of Amazing Grace was 10000000 x better than this because it was actually him singing. These big labels need to stop with this perfection thing, that’s not what music is about. You want to give Randy Travis his voice back? Than let him sing, any way he can. Idk the whole thing just doesn’t sit right with me.

You all don't know what he suffered back in 2013 with that severe stroke that almost claimed his life. I'm so happy what they did with that beautiful song, Where That Came From. Please do more for him. This fan will support him just like all his other fans. 🎶🎵🙏🙏❤️❤️

Hi, huge Randy Travis fan here. How huge? He was my first concert way back in 1988. I owned his first three albums on cassette when I was a kid. I've always liked him. When I first heard this song, I thought it was miraculous to hear his voice again. And then I heard that AI was used. My initial thinking was they'd bypassed AutoTune. But to completely recreate his voice, while, yay, awesome, opens up Pandora's Box. What's next, a new Nirvana song with Kurt's voice? Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Wayne Newton covering All For Love? At least with The Beatles song, AI was used to clean up a tape to make an old vocal usable, and not recreate John Lennon's voice. Again, I love this song, but in a way I feel like I am a five year old being told that Santa Claus isn't real. I know I'm probably in the minority thinking this way.

Hi Virgil. Saw him in concert in 1987 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Was sold out. His fiddle player in his band is from there. The Judds opened for him and they both put on a great show. When he sang Forever and Ever Amen the crowd went crazy. I remember when the three remaining members of the Beatles was recording Free As A Bird in the early 90's with a early recording of John Lennon's voice that some what was close to this. I'm happy they did this. If other people don't like it. Ignore it. Glad you got to see him!👍 He is truly a legend.

@@kellymoyer2675 oh yeah, when I saw him, Conway Twitty opened. There is a distinct reason I started calling him The Conman afterwards. He literally sang his hits, only spoke to introduce his newest single at the time, and split. Randy came out and saved the day, and was quite entertaining. I mean, I can't blame Conway for wanting to get the Hell out of Salisbury, MD, and the only other time I've gotten that vibe from an act was nearly sixteen years later when Tantric wanted to get the Hell out of Albany, GA. But at least Tantric spoke to the crowd. But to the issue at hand. I'm perfectly OK with using an existing vocal by someone and duetting with it. The duet between Hank Williams and his son, Nat King and Natalie Cole, the two Beatles songs from Anthology and the last one they cleaned up using AI, are all fine with me. And I'm OK with this song since Randy approved it. But how long until a record executive, or the executor of an estate, decides they want all the money, and we get a new Nirvana song with an AI recreated voice of Kurt Cobain, for example? The line has to be drawn somewhere.

@@virgilhodgesjr1524I agree with you. This is actually dangerous in my opinion. They use a feel good story to soften people up to AI. Once enough people are captured, then the powers that be feel emboldened to take AI the next level. The potential AI has for coercion and manipulation is down right frightening. Just think how our enemies can use this technology against us.

For all you going negative on Randy's song and AI. I'm guessing you have never had a family member suffer a stroke and in an instant take away everything in life that meant so much to them. For Randy, his family and fans this at least allows them the opportunity to hear what he might sound like had he not had a stroke. I get he wouldn't sound the same today, but it sure is cool to hear that one of a kind voice again. AI doesn't take away from his lyrics or his passion for music. Seeing the smile on his face says it all! You are missing the point, it's deeper than AI!

@@vidmon Hiya Vidmon- There's nothing inherently wrong with the IDEA of A.I. .... But it's what The Powers That Be have in store for us and the way THEY are going to use it that's disturbing. Right now, it's all fun 'n games. It seems innocuous and the "feel good" aspect is being sold to the population. But mark my words... The Club has bigger plans for the medium.

That's not really what he would sound like tho that's what he did sound like... AI can only replicate what it has heard.... its like making a new elvis song noone knows what a 89 year old elvis singing voice would sound like
@ThamiumOne
@ThamiumOne Ай бұрын
@@db11750 - True, but it's essentially the same thing, at least in part, that the Beatles have done a couple of times already. Blending old vocals from members no longer alive with those of the surviving members. Those songs don't represent what all four of them would actually sound like on a completely new recording either, since that's no longer possible. One way to look at tech like this is that any "new" creations could be considered like past songs from the vault that were "lost" and rediscovered.
