Should you cut your hair in to a TWA? Would that help it grow back if caught in an early stage? I have sisterlocks and am being treated to bring down inflammation, as well as changing my diet to anti-inflammation. But I’m terrified to get them retightened because the last time I did my scalp hurt for days, even though she was light handed and didn’t even retightening them to the root. I’m thinning to the point that of have to wear scarfs or a wig at first but the doctor said she can still see follicles. Would cutting it really short, like men have theirs, help in helping the scalp without hair manipulation?
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hi Kami! So sorry you are going through this, as I know its tough. Seems like your inflammation is active, so mild tension can be major on your scalp. I am going to post the 2nd part to this video in a few days, and will discuss some styles, but a low cut would certainly allow you to properly cleanse, treat and apply product to your scalp so its a great hair style choice. I would also minimize the retwisting or go as long as you can without retwisting if possible, primarily until you get it under control. And if the doctor said you stil have active folliicles, then let's save them!!!!

I love doing twist on my hair, but I realized smaller twist, not even mini twists, on me takes 6 hours or more for some reason lol. I now opt to do large chunky twists. I like the way they look better on me and at most, they’ll take 2 hours. But they can last for up to a month and I can still wash them with the twists in. A few adds to doing larger twists, you can start with a “loose” braid, or if you start with twists, you can start them off very loose as well. For washing them, you can wash the twists in large braids or loose, however after washing, put in whatever moisturizer, and tie them down with a satin scarf to reduce frizz. Love the videos ❤. Thanks so much for sharing 🤩. Subscribing now !!!

What is the approximate size of the bigger twist? Some of the challenges are the crown and hairline areas where the hair may be shorter, uneven and thinner.
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hi Rita! The size of the twists certainly going to be smaller and shorter in the areas that are thinner. The size is at least an inch at the base (not even sure if that makes sense! Lol) I guess the goal is stay away from twists are super small or “mini” like in the video. But again I know the areas of thinning will be smaller.

@KarenofCurlHouse I was going to ask a similar question about getting locs that are twisted or coiled. I hate to admit that I am lazy when it comes to washing my hair and thought twisted locs would help with styling and I can wash and go more often since I have CCCA.

Mrs. Karen I have watched your video about certain styles that we are suffering from this condition should not wear, so what can I wear that will be less or no tension at all because wigs rub my edges out, so I had to stop wearing them I want some information on can I wear added hair such as crochets are braids something like that are should I refrain from this too? Please help me because I am desperate about what to wear because my scalp itch and bother me with certain hair styles, because my edges and hairline is gone and I have bald thin areas, so it’s embarrassing and I cannot wear my natural hair either because of those reasons again, please help me…
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hi Arnetta! First of all, I’m so sorry to hear about your struggle with hair loss. I will post a part 2 video about more styles but those styles do not include weave. After reviewing your comment, I will create a part 3 that includes styles with weaves - and crochet braids will be a good option particularly if the inflammation is under control. Crochet braids possibly with a net added over the thinning areas (a hairstylist would know this) will help to minimize the tension directly to your scalp. You can also apply any topicals treatment to your scalp with crochet braids. Are you seeking treatment for your condition?

@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse 6 ай бұрын
Hi India! I would stay away from dye if you have CCCA. You don;t want to put any chemical near your scalp. You can do a silk press -- but make sure that flat iron doesn't touch the scalp ! You can also do deep conditioning, but make sure the heat on the hood dryer is low (or medium) -- not super hot. Heres a video on a blow out kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWnbg4SVbrRnkK8

I cannot afford a dermatologist; I'm an educator but I have no benefits, and I've put substitute teaching on the back burner to be a caregiver for my mother, a very talented pianist. What can I do? I can't even afford your products. Do you have any advice for me? My inflammation is always in the same place, just above the tips of my ears. I had freeform dreads for 13 years, but had to cut them last month when I saw two balding places.

Hi, is knotless box braids okay with CCCA?
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hi Angel! If the CCCA is stabilized (no longer spreading) knotless braids are ok. I wouldn't do them too long either as they may be heavy and you don't want tension on the follicles. Knotless braids are good because they do keep synthetic hair away from the scalp and sometimes the chemicals in synthetic hair can irritate the scalp . Ok. Hope this helps!

Hi Yadira! That's the general conclusion -- that its due to chemicals, relaxers specifically, also tight hair styles that create inflammation around the follicles, but recent research suggests that it may be a genetic component as well.
