This is a really sad situation. She needs psychiatric help (I don’t mean that in a mean way). She is severely mentally ill. Unfortunately I have dealt with this growing up with my mother. She struggled with delusions. she thought that people were “spying” on her and “listening” to her through her phone, car radio, and tv. My mom was diagnosed with manic bipolar disorder and did not want to take her medicine. I just hope someone can get her to a hospital before she actually hurts herself or others. Also, you look amazing today and I’m glad you covered this !

I couldn’t agree more. This woman needs a mental health intervention. I’m shocked this has gone on for so long. Her poor children. I feel for your situation, and hope you’ve found healing. Growing up my mom suffered severe depression and I lived in fear that I’d come home from school to find that she harmed herself, because she told me and my siblings that she wanted to harm herself many times. She eventually got the help she needed and our family healed.

Sandra Bullock had a stalker break in her home while she was there alone! Thankfully, her kids were both at sleepovers that night. The 911 call she made (I think it was from her bedroom closet) was incredibly terrifying. I don’t know if it’s still out there, this was years ago so who knows? She is an Oscar winning actress but no one in the world is that good. The phone call is just horrifying to listen to. I feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with a similar situation.

About 10 years ago a childhood friend of mine found me on Facebook. We were friends of convenience (living near each other in a rural area) in my mind but she said I was her childhood best friend. Not how I would have categorized us, but whatever. We chatted on messenger for a bit and she told me she had an amazing BF, but she didn’t really elaborate about him. A few days later I went to check her timeline and she had all these photos posted. There was a guy in them - at a super far distance. Not looking anywhere towards the camera, or waving or anything. About 20 blurry shots from an outdoor event and him so far out that he could have basically been any white man in his 20s. I couldn’t find any close shots, and definitely none of them together. The only person who had liked or commented on any of her photos was her very strange mother. Who had also just added me as a friend on Facebook. It was all too weird and I blocked both of them.

This is so scary. When I was a teacher I had a student who believed we were in a secret relationship. He told me he thought I was leaving him hearts on his laptop on his work. He hid out in the bathroom in my classroom for an hour after class was over and I was gone. My coworker thought she was in the building alone until he came out. I had to call security and he was escorted off the property and went on medical leave and never came back.

1:07:06 I have a theory why a fundie community wouldn't help a male victim either. I feel like they would see it as immasculating to be a victim. Their men are suppose to be strong and in control, able to take care of anything. They are the protectors. That these young men need protecting from an unhinged, middle-aged woman might be seen as a strike against their masculinity. Even men aren't immune from the victim shaming.

I was the victim of someone like this but it actually created huge problems in my life professionally and why all of my social media is private. He wasn’t a fundie but they are delusional and would turn everything he did around on me (ie the police spoke to him for cyberstalking me and he’d thank them for speaking to me because he alleged online I was stalking and harassing him even though no one came to speak to me). He alleged I did a lot of really heinous things and because he somehow found a supportive environment within our religious community (which is NOT fundie) and some people believed him until he became so fixated that people realized he was crazy. My rabbi stuck up for me, but unfortunately my job didn’t want to deal with it.

This disorder is not that rare. While working in an ER years ago, a woman came in for anxiety, noting that she was having relationship with a married man that was causing her stress, but was very appropriate, well spoken and seemingly “normal.” But by the time I got out from speaking with her…her chart had arrived, and as it was the tail end of paper charts…and it was 3 inches thick, filled with notes saying she believes the US President was in love with her, sending her coded messages in his speeches, etc. I returned an asked if the person she was in a relationship was someone well known, and she calmly stated that “yes, he is (the President at the time).” We arranged follow-up, but there are not great treatments for delusions currently…no good meds, and it is difficult to impossible to talk people out of them via facts and evidence. About the best treatment is therapy to lead the person to seeing through delusion is not reality.

I do wonder how much of her psychosis could benefit from being less isolated. It seems like she only has interactions online through her blog. Idk if she’s found a new church or not but isolation makes it to where there’s never anyone else providing other modes of thought and so her personal beliefs become more extreme and starts spiraling. Like it seems like she was creepy and focused when she was part of her church and then it got worse once she was kicked out.

I'm sorry that happened to your friend, and glad they had enough good people around them to intervene. I hope it helped - I am curious to know if anyone in this deluded state can be persuaded to seek help, or if they have to be "section 7'd" or something similar (which may help short-term, but won't create the desire to do the work to stay well if it's not there to start with). I know a lot of people with delusions are scared by them and do want help. But not everyone does, unfortunately. I hope your friend got medical help and is staying on their meds.

We did the intervention because the person wasn’t far gone enough to do what you’re calling a “section”. Here it’s a “5150” - “danger to self or others”. So when I was younger (late teens early 20s) I had a couple boys in the youth group I was volunteering with get a crush on me. They are not subtle. I didn’t encourage it and was never alone with them. I didn’t totally ignore them, but I also didn’t go out of my way to talk to them. Nothing happened, and they got over the crush in due time. That’s how adults handle teens having crushes on them. I’ve seen adults model that behavior when I was a kid. The most disturbing part of all this is that Sarah believes that death is a perfectly reasonable punishment for wronging her. Then says two girls did die. I heard on Reddit that one girl died from Covid which is horrible. I think she was dating Kyle, and it was a horrible shock. Then Sarah starts blaming the death on Kyle and the girl for lying about Sarah. It’s sick. I can’t imagine how awful it would be to lose a young person you love, then have someone hijack that grief. I’m glad Sarah’s kids are old enough to leave. I hate that they had to deal with her psychosis and her blaming them for stuff happening around her house. In some photos of her office Sarah posted on her blog there were decorative letters on a bookcase K and S. Those poor kids couldn’t get away from her delusions. If only Sarah spent a fraction of her time doing something worthwhile. Years spent obsessing over a non existent relationship while her kids grew up. All that wasted time.

Good on you not using the teens crushes, way too many would have thought I'm young too, it's not a big deal and flirted just for the attention. Makes me actually sad Sarah and her kids have not been able to get help (specially as she is stalking and has underaged children), she's showing such clear signs of psychosis. Considering she has been in these delusions so long not sure there is much help but if something is wrong in her brain getting the right medicine can completely turn around everything for the better.

This woman is a threat to the people she obsesses over. I can't begin to imagine how terrified her victims are. This woman created a fake life story around them and is practically threatening them with 'God's hand of justice'- which I get isn't explicitly stated by her, but the meaning of some of her words is clear. This woman is terrifying.

I had a classmate in college with this disorder. Her delusion involved one of our professors, who eventually became aware of the situation. It all kind of exploded when she claimed they were expecting and that she had miscarried. She would also pretend to faint in the middle of every midterm. But she was also the most talented singer, charismatic, fun girl. I hope she is doing better.

I have a friend of a friend that has similar delusions, she was actually even sentenced to psychiatric care for stalking. She is convinced that he is in love with her and that his mother and others are keeping them apart, she thinks he is sending her telepathic messages, it's a very long very weird story. A couple of years ago I found out that a friend of mine knows the guys she's been stalking, and told me that she pretty much has ruined his life.. she has done a lot of other weird things, acussed people of really messed up things. Delusional stalkers are truly some of the scariest. (And yes, she is a conspiracy theorist that does not believe in modern medicine).

My dad and brother in law are pastors at a small church. My niece was stalked by one of their members. She was 17 when it started (she's now in her early/mid-20s). The stalker was in his 70s. He was completely delusional. At first it was just uncomfortable compliments at church. My dad and brother in law told him to back off. He then started claiming God ordained them to be together and my dad and brother in law were getting the way of God's will and preventing them from being together. They kicked him out of the church. He started coming to her workplace, so they filed a restraining order. He went quiet for a few years, and then started trying to find/contact her again last year--after she was married with a baby--still saying they were meant to be together. So they went to the police to report he had violated the RO, and now he's in jail (last I heard)

This reminds me of Travis Reinking. He believed that Taylor Swift was stalking him. He recorded videos around his house of things he thought had been moved since he left previously. He ended up being more isolated and being less involved with his family, though still allowed access to all of his father's guns. He ended up shooting people at a Waffle House because "God commanded him". He was arrested and eventually sentenced to life in prison. His father got 18 months for letting him have guns.

If she's never had any intervention from law enforcement after all these years, it may never happen. As long as she stays at this level - on line, no physical contact or criminally liable behavior - it seems there is nothing to be done. The victims can ask her to cease, lawyers can ask her to cease, her own family could ask her to cease, but unless she understands that she has a problem and gets real help, why would she stop? She has no idea how she's harming others with her fantasies and allegations.

I had a friend who’s mother had been in a long term care facility for Schizophrenia, my friend has been showing symptoms for a few years, making up troubling conspiracy theories about people at her university being agents sent to kill her, writing coded messages in their lectures about her. The lack of early intervention in these situations is a serious concern but from experience, authorities of any kind can’t act until something serious happens.

I was able to leave at 15 when I moved in with my older sister and haven't seen her but a handful of times since. It was really rough trying to figure out how to have healthy and "normal" relationships. Even at 30, I am still learning and dealing with my own mental health issues but am thankful to have a spouse who understands and supports me. Thank God she doesn't know how to use the Internet cause who knows what would have happened! I hope her kids get the support that they need and are doing okay despite having grown up with this. I just thought about what this case reminds me of. There was a middle aged woman who had a massive crush on her church’s pastor. She was constantly praising him up and down, tried to get closer to him, even leaving grocery bags full of food for him. He didn’t think there was any harm in what she was doing and everyone thought of her as an “odd duck”. Finally, the pastor had enough, told her he didn’t have feelings for her nor would he ever have feelings for her, and to please leave him be. To which… she did. However During this time, a new member came to the church. A young woman who suffered from bipolar disorder and everyone accepted her with open arms. Even the pastor. The young woman was truly struggling and everyone was there to help her. The middle-aged woman grew more and more jealous of the attention that the young woman was receiving. Including the attention of the pastor. (Despite him not being interested in the young woman) The middle aged woman unalived the younger woman in the church. And the case would have went unsolved (though I believe that many of the church members believed that she did indeed commit the act) if it wasn’t for the fact that the middle-aged woman wore wigs. It’s a pretty sad case.

I wanted to just correct you on the woman portrayed in Baby Reindeer being in jail. That's not true. She was never charged w/ anything in real life. Charges weren't even pursued. That was all fictional in the movie, and was the only part said to be fictional by the writer. That's partly why she's suing, bc she feels it falsely portrayed her as a convicted criminal in that way, and smeared her reputation.

I 1000% think that Sarah wrote that letter that's supposedly from her son. A lot of the stuff in it sounds like the way she talks. For example, when he writes something and then says, "why? Because blah blah blah" in her post about her son she says "this is where you come in. How? Blah blah blah." I definitely think she would fake letters and posts and such. At this point, I don't think that any of her accusations against anyone can be taken seriously. And if her kid has behavioral problems, it's probably from the trauma of dealing with her. I hope that her kids get the love and support they need.

She talks about how her house is in foreclosure, but also she makes 6/7 figures, but it's fine because God will protect her and she can definitely keep doing her gifting ministry. There's more conflicting things she writes, like how her daughter is out the house living in sin and completely exiled, but also is in her house eating up all the tuna she buys. I guess she could just be writing random copy not based in truth which is normal for big blogs, but because of how dramatically she talks about her life it really made me question wth is going on.
