This video part one shows a way to approach a car shift boot in leather. The challenge is to do it in four parts doing plain closing sewings and french seams on top view for the four seams.
If we start out from zero it is necessary to first make a pattern. As always thin stationery cardboard is useful for this purpose. In case of not getting this paper board, another hard paper would be also useful.
In next video part two, I will show how to close the missing seam by using a hand sewing technique with two thin straight needles.
I hope you find in this video some inspiration!
Cesar

Hi Greg, I am so glad to hear from you! This video is part one. In next video part two I will show how to handsew the open seams with two thin needles in order to get the four french seams. It could be done in an easier way with just one needle. The distance from hole to hole should be of 3 mm to get a tight plain stitch. In these sunvisor's videos I show some of this handsewing technique:kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZakdYdmeq98Z5I (min twelve:10) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hH68nXadZq12apo (min four:32)

It will become one mid section and two side /"wing" sections that will point forward on the sides. I'm into making a template now, but not sure what would be the best looking and strongest seams...

How did you measure the previous boot? Or the base and shift knob to make the 4 pieces of leather for this project?
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 3 жыл бұрын
Shift boots are of different size for each car trademark. The one of the video is only a sample on how a shift boot could be approached. The simplest way to make a boot would be to unsew and copy the old boot to the new vinyl or leather. In case of not having a mold, then we should start from zero measuring the square or rectangular base. Next the height to the hand lever close to the knob. By having these measures I would start making up my molds in paper or plastic.

Don’t like this method. Too many seams and the wrong kind imo. Don’t get me wrong. This guy is spectacular. It’s just that I’ve done this. Without all the hand sewing and only one seam.

Thanks for your commentary! I personally do not like this design. I also prefer one seam and the use of a lace to tighten up the head of the cone. A car trimmer on the Hog Ring Forum posted a picture with this shift boot design and asked for opinions on how to approach it similar. That is why it inspired me to do it alike the shown picture.
