STRAIGHT INSIDE-HIDDEN STITCH(BLIND STITCH) FOAMED CHANNELS/PLEATS
As in former related tutorial' to do these designs, three layers of (vinyl/leather, foam and a backing cloth, are also fastened by sewing them together. The difference is that the 'sewing' is done on the reverse or wrong side of vinyl/leather/ or fabric materials.
There are three well known methods to perform these designs :
1. Standard way to do the channels : To do this procedure, the material on top (vinyl/leather) should be folded and sewn to the foam and backing cloth every time we do a channel.
2. Square foamed channels : the foam is cut in long rectangular 'sliced pieces' : The material on top is folded and sewn directly to the backing cloth...the already cut rectangular foam pieces are put in, every time we do a channel. The channels have a nice square
3. Reinforced inside-hidden stitch : Sewing on top first, then re-sew them on the reverse where the 'backing cloth' goes. The sewing for these channels are stronger and obvious, more durable.
I want to notice that these foamed designs are labour-intensive jobs, and more expensive than on-top stitches foamed designs.
I hope you find the video useful!
Cesar

Great videos Cech! Used my 1245 for years, love it, but I've never done "blind stiches Foamed Channels".... Consequently, I've never used your type of backing cloth. I've always used sewfoam.... Please let me know what backing material you are using? It appears that you use different kinds in some of your videos I've watched. Absolutely love your videos! You are definately a master craftsman! Thanks, Bennet

I have used a muslin cloth as backing on the reverse side. Sew foams come already with a backing cloth thoroughly glued down over the reverse side of foam material. It is much easier to handle.

Ok Cech! Finally figured out, with vinyl, my dimensions with converting cm and mm to inches, did two sew outs and on the second one it all came out perfectly because of your video! My question is, I did this with vinyl, are there any changes in dimensions when using leather? I'm ready to cut the leather for this vintage car and I can't mess up 1000.00 worth of leather! The tight folds that are folded to sew is my main concern. It's standard auto leather, not hardly any difference in thickness, a little maybe, than the vinyl.... Great videos! Thanks so much! Bennet

What`s the solution for natural leather,wich is thicker? At 1.3 mm thickness you waste 2mm at least for each stitch.
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 2 жыл бұрын
Trying to figure out your question. Regularly, upholstery leathers are from 1 mm to 1.4 mm thick. The sewing machine should be capable of making stitches the same length, thin or thick leather. Sometimes, this issue happens (I suppose) when we do not regulate the height of the sewing machine presser feet by loosening a wing nut in the back of the machine. A higher position is for thicker materials. If we do not do that, then the presser foot rubs the surface material and alters the stitch length to less distance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nV6ZZYqNdsR4brM

I was wondering what the cloth on the bottom of the foam was for? Ive been trying to sew foam to tweed and the thread keeps getting knotted up. Thanks for the videos, been watching you for years bro. Subbed.
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo Ай бұрын
The cloth on the bottom or reverse side is a kind of backing or reinforcement to keep in place the foamed channels.The top vinyl material is sewn down to the cloth beneath and the foam is in the center giving the bulky shape. It is difficult to directly sew foam to a cloth underneath. Above all if the needle is thick. To make the sewing easier it should be a cloth or vinyl on top, the foam in the center and a backing cloth on the bottom.

Very nice! My dad was a life long auto upholsterer & worked at Fords design center in Dearborn. The way I learned tuck & roll in the sixties, was sewing together individual strips of the material ( Naugahyde usually) & then glueing strips of foam in the channels with a scrim back added. Very time consuming. But I've not seen a single you tuber doing it that way? Thank you.

I guess that's one way of doing tuck and roll. The way you're doing it will take forever. You don't have to mark the back side of the vinyl. Why not instead, try measuring your pleats on the top side with chalk after you glue your material to your skrim. Give a half inch allowance per pleat and sew the top stitch first, then fold the entire insert over and sew on the back side of the insert. It's kinda tricky if you're not used to sewing 1/4 inch seam allowances. For the rolls anyways. If you measure correctly your insert should be dead on after your done. I wish I could do a channel on here. I just don't have time to manage it. I dig your Phaff too. That's a good machine. I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're over thinking this insert. It doesn't have to be that technical. I'm saving up for a new Juki. I'm gonna try out that new 1541S. The foot raises 6/8's of an inch. I need that rise. I'm done typing now. ...lol... 😜

@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 7 жыл бұрын
@deltajohnny
@deltajohnny 7 жыл бұрын

¡Suerte!

@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 5 жыл бұрын

@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 4 жыл бұрын
