Super niche question, but I'm curious about what ice/snow removal products are allowed to be used in Svalbard? In Minnesota people use a ton of salt and grit for management but I'd imagine the ecosystem of Svalbard is protective against it's environment and ecosystem?

I love the shelves. I'd want real plants. Can you have real plants with a plant light. Also did you get a package from MD,USA a bit over a month ago. I love shoveling snow! I have house-sat people who both had big circular driveways. It took me several hours each day to complete it. The general caught me on their camera and sent his son to tell me I did need to do that, but when he came home he was glad to be able to drive right in and I was grateful to be able to get out! Their dogs and I had a ball being out in the snow chasing each other! Oh, this was in the north Seattle are, where they usually don’t get a lot if any snow.

Love their cozy cabin, and absolutely love Norway's storms. There were three winter hurricanes I experienced during my years there. Unlike in the U.S., Norway builds to accommodate them. Notice no boarding up windows etc. However, I confess a great fear of water and waves coming, even though Cecilia reassures it can't happen there. Wonderful people, great country, great memories 🇺🇲🇧🇻
@target844 Жыл бұрын
Shutters on windows will primarily protect against solid objects in the air. It will not be a lot of that in Svalbard when there are no trees and the ground is frozen. If you need them to protect the glass it will simply not be thick enough glass in sturdy enough window construction
@SBCBears Жыл бұрын
There are building codes in the US that accommodate hurricanes. For instance, in south Florida counties, building exteriors, including window openings, are required to withstand the impact of an 8 foot long 2x4 traveling 200 mph on end.

I just discovered your TikTok last night, which lead me to your KZbin. I am loving your content. Thank you for showing the northern lights with their natural beauty. So many videos I see of them are always sped up. I’m in southeast Canada …the northern lights are like what you see in northern Canada. Where I am, we have them but it’s not as intense. My father, passed away in December. He would always take my brother and I (even in the middle of the night) outside in our backyard to watch the lights. Even when I grew up and moved almost an hour away from home, he would call me (even in the middle of the night) to tell me the lights were dancing so I could step outside to see. My favorite time is after a storm. Today a year ago, we were digging out. This year ice arrived. Rare to see hurricane force winds with rain at a warm -2c. You really need a wide barn shovel. It cuts your clean out in half and can handle the heavy icy snow on decking. Grimm is so much like ours it's funny, even down to the rescued toy. Ours unfortunately sneak into the home to be saved until the next outing to be buried again. Our dump will be tonight. Stay warm and safe.
