As a casual EDH player that has been wanting to print out a few lists to get people at my LGS into cEDH, I really enjoyed this list. It gave me several options to throw together to try out.

Real enjoyable listen from you both today. Fair bit of the stuff you mentioned I recommend to others who want to learn the format, but one I always recommend, partially because I love this deck so much, is Magda. It really checks a lot of my boxes when I want to suggest something to new people.

My first cEDH deck was Gitrog. Explaining the combo made for a lot of blank stares from across the table. Back then no one told me about the Grok, ha ha. Dauthi Voidwalker really broke my heart when it was released. Najeela is my girl now.

My first foray into cEDH was Haldan and Pako since I played it casually and it wasn't too much of a shift to implement more infinite strategies into it as well as milling out opponents I stuck with a creatureless list so that Pako would always get 1 counter at a minimum and it's worked out quite a bit after putting in combos that suit the strategy such as Bear Umbra or Nature's Will and Aggravated Assault to just keep swinging Pako or the tried and true Breach/LED/Freeze to mill opponents out, I even put in season's past combo to do the infinite turns too The deck also makes you pay attention to the cards you "draw" from your opponents so that you can shut down what your opponents are doing by either exiling their creatures or by using the counterspells you get off the top. It also makes them think twice before they tutor to top Overall, very fun experiences

This content had great information to give us "casuals," a glimpse into a format that seems, at times, a bit intimidating to want to try imo. I found it encouraging that a place at the table was being offered to have a seat and a chance to learn. Thank you.

I'm one of those casual players who wanted to play a 'different' commander in cEDH. I just put together my first deck with Evelyn, The Covetous. I know there are better options in the colors, but it can add a little value or act as payoff for the sketchiest combo in the game (Worldgorger)... It's been super fun to learn so far! Thanks for the content; y'all are super helpful.

Just started to have the desire to get into cEDH and was looking for a deck. I did have a casual Tivit a while back and had an absolute blast with it. Think I might pull him back out and put together a cEDH list for him, thanks guys.

I'm an intermediate cEDH player. In the last few months I played over 100 games with Turbo Rocco and ended with 42% win rate. The mulligans with the deck are quite hard and very impactful which adds quite a lot of complexity to the deck. Also, while the combos seem easy if something goes wrong or depending on your draws or stax pieces you can get into quite complicated lines or tutor chains. Overall the deck is super fun and while it's quite easy on the surface with time you will discover its more complex side. I recommend going to the Rocco Discording and checking the Dmac/Eve version of the deck for a good place to start. Feel free to ask questions there, people discuss the card choices all the time there.

I love your casual use of the word "Grock" that book is amazing and I love that word but don't hear it very often.

Temur Pirates: Simple game plan. Teaches combat mechanics and importance. Teaches how to mulligan aggressively.

Loved this pod. I am still pretty new, and really my LGS is just pushing really high power (there are rules against winning Pre turn 5 until the final table) so it is cool to get a panarama. I started with K'rrick, and I think it being monocolor might help a bit.

Trying to get into Cedh I was intially looking at inalla because I played it casually and my group got tired of the deck but the lines were so convoluted I couldn’t keep them straight.

My first (and still my only) cedh deck was estrid the masked. I try and generate infinite mana with land enchantments. It’s probably just teferi with more steps, but I like estrid and the strategy I have developed

Slicer... I love popping this guy out even in the 99. I definitely should build him. The only major issue with Slicer is the same issue goad strategies face: once the game is down to two players, goad becomes a terrible ability, as you're no longer safe from being attacked. This is particularly nasty for Slicer, because now the Slicer player has to choose between letting it hit THEM, or refuse to donate it and leave it stuck in vehicle mode.
@ChrisDavis-tt1dj Жыл бұрын
Usually the other player is already marked with some commander damage. Trading hits with Slicer is still net positive for you.

I started with Winona. I have my own customized the list for her now but Stacks isn't always the best and I think I'm going to give yuriko a go after listening to this video.

This would be really cool, if there were links to recommended decklists. The tivit decklists on cedh database are either nonexistent, or references combos with cards that are not in the deck. Super confusing.

Yuriko, my beloved. Was the first commander i ever gravitated to when k started playing magic in 2018 but could never build in a way that didnt make the table groan in casual lol went full cedh necer looked back. Also incidently pretty cheap to build in paper compared to others

As someone who is looking to get into cedh but only am willing to allocate enough money for one deck for a good while. I kinda have my heart set on Winota, but I’ve ever hearing a lot about her viability potentially being much worse as of late, due to increase in removal and interaction geared towards creatures such as her and Malcom. Basically I don’t want to sink my money into a deck that isn’t going to be or is no longer truly viable or still able to hold its own. I should also mention my attraction toward Winota isn’t because she was so strong I simply love the decks playstyle, all that to say I’m not looking to play a deck that always wins. I just want to know if she is and or will remain viable.
@PlayingWithPowerMTG Жыл бұрын
She will always be viable. However, the meta has adapted and she's no longer a "Tier 1" deck. You can still play her in CEDH tables with no issue!
@ArchDanDan Жыл бұрын
I feel that no one ever talks about Niv-Mizzet Parun. One of the easiest combos in cedh to understand.
@PlayingWithPowerMTG Жыл бұрын
From a combo perspective, yes. But Niv Mizzet is a control deck. Control is pretty difficult to understand when you don't know the meta just yet.
@ArchDanDan Жыл бұрын
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG The same can be said with any midrange deck in the format. Tivit is a perfect example of this, both decks have the same "play your commander and win" mindset. Niv has more interaction than Tivit. But learning what the strong cards in the format are and how you can interact with them is more important than just winning the game.

I turned my high powered Lazav, the Multifarious into an actual competitive
@ThaddeusMike Жыл бұрын
I understand the logic behind recommending Slicer as a deck that gets people excited, but I'm skeptical that it's as competitive as the other decks listed here. I'd be worried about getting someone into a trap where they are playing cEDH but aren't winning and get discouraged. That said I enjoyed the episode and appreciated hearing your thoughts.

I wouldn't reccomend Rocco for a new player, all the others I would though. First I try to look what the player likes and then try to fit a deck. Blue farm is kind of playing cEDH on easy mode for a casual EDH player to start cEDH to me. Kinnan is by far the most appealling with the big flips variant and I think most Malcolm decks are really easy and powerfull for a new player.

@DarkEinherjar Жыл бұрын
Maybe finding the adequate balance between humans and non-humans in the deck, on top of all the stax pieces, is a bit too challenging for a newcomer.
@ChrisDavis-tt1dj Жыл бұрын
Each hit on Winota requires a decision chain based on the board state and what you already have. New players usually are not familiar enough with the meta to choose the right Hatebear or Stax piece.
@aeolus7762 Жыл бұрын
Just don't do a me and go Krarkashima, not worth the headache learning the deck.
