Swords is the uncontested creature removal spell but for removal in general i would day its tied with Chain of Vapor and Abrubt Decay. Also, i think it's important to point out that duals are good bur thr fetches are the actual broken part.

penultimate: last but one in a series of things; second last. StP is the ULTIMATE removal spell.

Solitude, Ryan. If Force of Will is better than Counter spell then Solitude has to be better than Swords
@yawgmoththeineffable8660 Жыл бұрын
Well, both Solitude and FoW are either 5 mana or “free”, but Counterspell costs UU and Swords just W. Difference between paying 1 or nothing and paying 2 or nothing isn’t that huge, but should still be considered. Also, multicolor decks takes most of current meta and it’s more likely to have an extra blue card for FoW than white one for Solitude just because blue is stronger and therefore more played than white. Blue also has two of the most powerful draw engines in Mystic and Rhystic and is in general much better at drawing cards. These “2 for 1” cards get better if you have more cards in hand to spare.

As a monowhite player I agree fully with what you’re saying. But with the amount of hate that white gets I find it difficult to believe that having an extra white card, in hand, to pitch to solitude is something most players *want* in their hand. Maybe in a Winota or Heliod. Definitely see you’re argument though.

16:35 yeah Sol Ring is a really interesting case. It's hands down one of the strongest cards ever printed, but because it's so common and grandfathered in at this point, it doesn't feel like you're playing one of the top 10 cards over 30 years. It should feel really exciting and crazy like playing a Black Lotus, but it just doesn't haha.

Vampiric Tutor is better than Demonic most of the time because of the playing sequence. Example: you can turn 1 - end of someone's turn - holding a counter mana open all the time - fetch up a mana crypt directly to draw it. Demonic Tutor is way more clunky to play and you often don't have the extra mana. The things do switch, when you are at the finishing turn assembling your combo and having a bunch of mana left over - but basically Vampiric performs better most of the time.

My only quibble with Swords being declared most powerful or most "flexible" is that it only removes one permanent type. I'd honestly put stuff like Gift, Beast Within, Void Rend or Anguished Unmaking above it, even if they're 3 mana. also Solitude is free

That mana vault for the early ad naus turn is still huge, there aren't many decks that don't have a big spell or two that uses the mana.

Also think Wild growth fell off because of Dockside or was that before dockside?

Lemme tell you. I love flexing the alpha blue blast when someone attempts to power out a Kraum, Winota or Dockside

Maybe it's just my greedy meta, but path is infinitely better.
