Lol Omar would do the common lefty trick of just reversing the strings on a righty guitar.. but he never bothered to intonate the guitar and that’s where his signature detuned sound comes from
@RustinChole
@RustinChole 3 жыл бұрын
Bingo. All the way back to ATDI. My band opened for them in 1996, and the guitarist for Botch went up to Omar and pointed out that if you set the intonation it won’t go out of tune instantly. “It sounds better a little out of key.” - Omar “Yeah, but that was ALOT out of key” botch guitarist to me.

I don't think the guitar was out of tune. I think Omar forgot his own riff for a second. You can tell after he tuned the guitar, the notes still didn't match the bass or the keybords. This shit actually happens. Sometimes your brain farts and you happen to be onstage. It's rare but I've seen it and I have experienced it too.

@ryanlk Sorry it was so long till I replied. Anyway, yeah I will check it out. I think what makes Omars playing not register to you is he said for the first 2 albums he was trying to make his guitar sound like anything but a guitar. Said he was angry he couldn't communicate musically with other musicians as well without the guitar. On amputechture he said he made peace with his instrument. Note thats the album vermicide is on. I think his playing is slowly getting better with each album.

I don't think his guitar was out of tune maybe he's just playing wrong notes. notice how juan is showing him the proper notes (no tuning going on) and the 'I just wrote it I don't have to remember it do I?' remark.

Wow, 22 y o internet me was reading his booklet to filth because i was in his intro to Cedric Lyrics class and trying to learn a new dialect. And ya'll really came for me. Of course he slays at being his self: the singing, dancing, the producing of their siren sound, and what is far funnier now is that we think we knew anything. I forget the lines to my poems and i was really having a shame fest here. It's all about doing it how you want to. Baiii.

@ryanlk its seem like you won't admit that at least 1 solo is good. You will say "coherent" or "inside" but wont simply say any of his solos are good. He DOES have a lot of good solos. I can understand where you are coming from cause a lot of their stuff is off the wall and weird but not ALL of it is random notes. What might be random notes to you and me might be awesome to someone else. It's all according to taste. I respect your opinion though. I'm just glad you like the band! :)

A guitar-tech was fired that day. Also, as for Omar's playing being 'outside', I do agree, and I think he intentionally guesses the notes to make it sound as random as possible. His technique is far from horrible though. If you require proof of this, watch the videos of him playing alongside Flea and John Frusciante.

it wasn't out of tune, they were off. You think a band like this with guitar techs would let their lead guitarist go on stage out of tune? That's pretty much the tech's main job duty.
@woutervanrijn8590
@woutervanrijn8590 9 жыл бұрын
+Joe sorry, what? How about setting up equipment, doing elaborate soundchecks, hauling all the equipment from one stage to the next, pretty much everything besides actually playing guitar? Tuning a guitar is the last thing a tech should do. If you are the one playing the guitar on stage, then you better make sure you tune your own instrument. Really an ignorant statement, man.. techs have a lot of shit to do.
