Back to basics review. Excellent. I've got a couple of VG10 Delica's and a ZDP189 and HAP40 Endura. The Delica (either one) just stays in my pants pocket and the HAP40 Endura stays in my coat. The ZDP189 Endura though is such a bastard to sharpen I'm almost afraid to use it. I've got a basic S30V PM2 as well but I find it to be more of a 'look-what-I've-got' knife for the 'tactical' wannabees......

Big brown guy pulled a thick staple out of a wood deck with the very very tip of a s110v pm2. He also cut a penny in half with no damage.

Nice to see the comparison with the Benchmade 940, and the comparison with the Benchmade 940 (- and the possible fault of the axis lock springs).

They've certainly upped the materials since I got my Gen 1 in 1990... it had the "SpyderEdge" (boo) and an INTEGRAL Zytel pocketclip. That's right. On the plus side, the clip didn't catch on stuff like my Delica 4 or Co-Pilot (R.I.P.) used to. But man, ZDP-189...

Just got one. Identical. I didn't watch or read any reviews beforehand. After a week of carrying it and using it I think is too big for an office environment where I work most of the time. If I were a farmer: the perfect one! (Also perfect for hardest time finding it when lost outdoors) I'll get a Delica in this configuration and see how that works. Anyhow, excellent review! On point and quite objective (as most of your reviews) which we all know how hard it is for a knife nut. 😉😜😃

Hey! I'm in the same move right now. I'm selling all the knives I do not carry. I made a video explaining why I sold my Para 2 also for the Stretch. Take care.

If you want a cheap fun flipper knife, Get a Milwaukee Button Lock box cutter. I think its more fun than the 940 even, and you can get 2 of them right now for about $15 (US)

Cedric, have you ever watched any of the KZbin videos about Spyderco fakes. Apparently the Clones are nearly identical. KZbin videos really helped me to know whether or not I have a fake or a real Spyderco knife.

Good to know how much it actually weighs. Thanks. Amazon is terrible at that. They seem to be pulling those numbers from their asses. I tried asking customers a fiew times. So I'd be like: "how much does it weigh?", and someone would respond: "Oh, it's very light" LOL Yeah, that will do buddy :D

Hey Pete do you still own this knife? The other day I threw it on the kme , but when I got to the 1500 stone the edge would India flake off, kinda like how people were having problems with maxamet. I tried fr hours to solve it , but couldn’t, so I restarted the edge and stopped at 600 grit. Thanks my friend

What do you think of the Endura getting the forward finger "choil" treatment as per the Paramilitary. Any downside you could see if Spyderco continuously improved that into the handle?
@CedricAda7 жыл бұрын
Kit Bloke I dunno. I used to think everything should have forward finger choil.. but I dunno, I think having a more 'defined' handle can make the rapid, larger cuts a bit easier. I like a choil, but I like one without just as much lately

No. You can get deep carry clips, but no wire ones, at least that i can think of

It’s really nice but if you’re not good with sharpening it’s really hard. The VG10 is better for most folks. Then the Cara Cara 2 with its 8Cr is a great Endura 4 clone for $30

thanks for the review. i know knives come and go from your folding knife collection, but how's your fixed blade collection coming along? ive been going a little nuts on fixed blades lately, would love to see your collection as it is now (edit: scratch that question. looks like i missed your video about that from a couple of months ago lol) and fyi - you keep calling the 940 spring an infinity spring. the infinity sign is a sideways "8". the spring in the axis lock is like an upside down omega sign. it's called an omega spring

Spyderco Endura 4 VG10 -$71.00 (US) / Cold Steel Broken Skull CTS-XHP -$65.00 (US) I'LL take the Broken Skull all day . The Endura should be about $50.00 (imo) , the ZDP model is a hell of alot better deal at $106.00 (US).

First of all: Really enjoy your vids, learned a lot while watching! / Maybe you (or somebody reading this) could give me an advice on the Endura: I have it in HAP 40 (the burnt orange one) and in ZDP 189. Only gonna keep ONE of them, can´t decide which one to sell. So: Ist their a huge difference in the perfomance (edge holding / ease of sharpening..) of the two steels? Your tests on HAP40 show very varying results, so I do not know.. If the difference is NOT that much I would keep the HAP 40, for it is more rare. But if ZDP is a lot better (especially concerning egde retention) I´d keep that one.. I´d really appreciate some input, greetings from Austria / Europe!
@CedricAda6 жыл бұрын
i would keep the Hap 40. the zdps are evergreen, and while the edge will generally last a little longer, the hap40 is still no slouch, and is a little nicer to sharpen and I like the color, too.
@wartstein88146 жыл бұрын
That was quite a fast reply, thanx a lot for your help!! Unlike some others I also like the orange color and the silver clip of the HAP40 a lot. Just was a little confused, cause in your tests HAP40 did 300 cuts one time (Dragonfly), but "only" 173 the other time (Manbug) (ZDP Endura did 336). Do you have an explanation for that? maybe the short edge of the Manbug? Have a nice day (or rather evening, where you live?)
