*Torrio* is such a legendary character, he understands the power of being underestimated and staying low-key. Doesnt show arrogance or boastfull behavior instead he plays weak and complains. Doesnt show his ambition but has plenty, kills his lifelong mentor to get rich in the bootlegging. Claims to want nothing to do with Greek town but happely takes over. *ALWAYS* being underestimated big Jim underestimated *Torrios* Ambition and gets killed other bosses ( *Nucky and A.R* for example ) underestimate him and he takes over chicago. He plays weak in his war for Greek town and his enemys happely believe it and get assassinated for it cause they underestimated him. *Nucky* later on underestimated *Torrio* believing him out of the game and retired altho *Torrio* distance himself from the failed assassination on *Nucky* while setting him up for the next one in the same breath meanwhile hes telling him to retire. *Morale of the story dont show urself, and use the power of people underestimating you.*

Maybe in this but not according to the history books it wasn't. It was the northside gang in retaliation for Dean O Bannion getting whacked in his flower shop.Hymie Wiess went mad after the killing of his friend and witnesses statements from the time had him as one of the shooters. He had terminal cancer so he just didn't care and his mission in life was to kill Capone before the cancer got him. History also has the two who shot Torrio as Wiess and Bugs Moran from the northside gang and bug's gun run out of bullet as he put it to Johny's head then the driver honked the horn as people were coming. In this Torrio thinks Capone tried to kill him so he gave it all up to Al. He did do that but it wasn't actually Al who tried to kill him it was the Northside gang

i think the scene is shot in a way to show the division of classes during America's gilded age. The beginning shot shows people getting their shoes polished, then when joe colombo (i think that is his name) is talking to the hotel assistant he doesn't even look in his direction while the assistant is looking right at him. Simple yet conveys the message well, good directing.

I swear and this is why I decided to type that statement out. I have no clue if that revelation came from god and brought me here or what. I was just thinking about this earlier at the track jogging. You cannot allow family, relatives (totally different), nay sayers, people who act as a friend but are really foes and so on opinions about you or your thoughts about how they may feel effect you. You will miss out on a very prosperous and great life doing so. Be completely independent of other's opinions about your life. I've ran into old people also trying to give fake advice under the guise of them being old, wise and caring. I have ears like a hawk and overheard the man say, right as he though I was further enough not to be able to hear, "I told him that bs to fuck with him" with his old friend both laughing until I turned around. I said nothing and kept walking because one rule is, if its worth it, you never allow people who think they have a drop on you to know that you are aware of their intentions unless its required to do so.@@ceerious

Next to only another HBO Original Series, The Leftovers, this is by far the most underrated and unappreciated series in the history of television....and it's not as if millions and millions of people aren't fans, or the show received unfavorable reviews by critics. Quite the opposite. It drew universal critical acclaim. Despite it all, it never got the love it truly deserved. An absolute masterpiece. This compilation was one of the best I've seen, and I really enjoy the way you format these videos, each being centered around a single character. So, yea. Appreciate the effort man. The man lived through the rise of the gangs, earned a lot of money, retired peacefully, and even helped the younger generation to found The Commission. And he died peacefully, which is a luxury I think most made guys can't afford

36:01 In sopranos, it was black guys. Boardwalk, it’s black smith. Sopranos, died on the vine. Boardwalk, did clutching a hammer or whatever. Very allegorical.

The way Al Capone raises it to 50 after they already agreed on 25 is hilarious.😂

I really don't know why Steve Buscemi just completely misses with this role, but he does. I am usually a fan of his, but in this particular case it seems like a miscast. Every last supporting character in the entire series is far better.

Have to agree. Since the 90s he was my favourite supporting actor. So many good roles. But leading as a gangster never felt right. He's still a legend though.

In the show they were ambiguous as to who had shot Torrio, the rival gang or perhaps Capone? Either way Torrio got the last laugh with a prosperous and quiet retirement while Capone had a much bumpier road

I believe Torrio was right about O'Banion.

I think they made it ambiguous on purpose. It adds to the drama. But in reality it's pretty much accepted that it was Bugs Moran and Hymie Weiss, from Dean O'Banion's North Side gang, were behind the attempted hits on both Capone and Torrio.

I had to look the actors name up, which is surprising for such a great actor. Between Torrio and Butchy, Greg Antonacci goes down in mob acting history.
