Gods country, yes it is. I've lived here for 24 yrs. It's an outdoor paradise. Ive thought of moving several times but haven't found anything that has what Bishop and the surrounding area has to offer. It doesn't grow much because it is land locked. We are surrounded by the real BLM (Bureau of Land management), USFS, LADWP and Paiute land. This has kept the population at a minimum. Your video was a great representation of Mule days.

Mom had mental illness, she woke me up super super early (4:00am) quite a few times.. .. .. she ditched work, ditched my school, took me to Jack-in-the-Box for breakfast, pancakes, brought Carrots/Kale/Apples & we would go to the mountains. fed burrows + hiked Ice Box Canyon Thank Our Creator for "mental illness" 🤍 🌻

My wife and I enjoyed a few days in Bishop around 2012 or so. We bicycled in the desert-like surrounding "fields", which were all marked with "keep out" signs for the Los Angeles water authority. Toward the south end of the city was an outdoor swimming pool which was unconventional with shade screens for the brutal sunshine and numerous misters (to keep from being too dry). Very refreshing! Your sister's smile is great! Too bad she is so camera shy.

When I was in the military, a friends parents had jumping mules. They were used to keep up with the dogs during raccoon hunts. The mother was saying how they will get rich in stud fees. We had to remind her mules are sterile. Their mules could clear a seven foot fence.

husband speaking age 81 The last " honest " 4th of July parade I ever saw in Everett, Wash. - Snohomish County, on Puget Sound , with it's own Naval base and ships, had to be more that 20 years ago when we had a lot of military present - not just one or two carrying the Flag, a Marine squad giving a rifle demonstration. It was impressive, until one unlucky Marine dropped his rifle. I bet he did a ton of push ups when he got back to base. ( Dennis Kjolso, USAF 1963 - 1967 )

So great to watch you and your sister having a good time at Bishop's Mule Days celebration. By the way, there are quite a few mule breeders here in Missouri...and YES, female horse to male jackass is the way to go. And the reason you heard was only one reason. There's another...one doesn't want to risk a foal too large for "Mom" to pass. Cesarean section on a donkey might be a bit of a challenge. Anyway, thanks for taking us along, Darlin'.

Went to mule days several times as a kid, 1970's and interesting thing about the parade is it was All mule powered. A local Dodge dealer ship had a one ton truck float w/40' trailer- 3 vehicles on it, all pulled with a team of mules. Guess the street sweeper only thing not mule powered. Many good memories, Schatt's Bakery and fish caught in Bishop.
