Ladoga and Novgorod were Slovene-Ilmenskie, Ladoga was start of Rus' as a state in 862. also I woyldn't say Pskov is dying, as just in 2018 they had their highest population in history as a city. it's just recent few years. yes, they had a massive dip, but they historically have those occasionally. it'll recover.

Eli, this is great to see. I am from the United States, and I have been married for the past 13 years to a Russian man who grew up in the Pskov Oblast, in Veliki Luki.. I have been to Veliki Luki twice to visit close friends of his. They have a place in the city, but mostly stay on their dacha where they have an amazing garden and a large house that they have been slowly building by hand for the last twenty years. Lyosha works as a construction manager and he knows more than anyone about investment and infrastructure in the Pskov Oblast. I need to let you know that you are seeing Pskov in the middle of a great surge in investments in the area. It used to be MUCH more depressed. Our friends tell us that it is almost unrecognizable now. I could see from you video that it looks very clean, beautiful & thriving. Certainly it has a long way to go. I remember driving past many deserted villages in the area on roads that needed a lot of work. And what is happening to Pskov City is happening much more slowly in the rest of the Oblast. For instance, Veliki Luki's population has lost about 100,000, mony of whom are moving to Pskov City, which has grown by about 100,000. It is still a depressed oblast, but things are changing rapidly Lhosha and Lena now live in Pskov five days a week (about two hours away from their dacha in Veliki Luki) because there is great work there for a construction manager, and they return to their dacha for the weekends. I have a feeling that the island will start to come back to life (hopefully not too much!) as will the rest of the oblast in the coming years. Sometimes it is the most depressed region that experiences the most change during times of rebuilding. Pskov Oblast is starting to blossom.

Based on archaeological research, it is known that in the 10th-11th centuries, the region was inhabited by the Krivich tribe, who belonged to the East Slavs, as well as representatives of Finno-Ugric, Baltic, and Scandinavian tribes. ... In 1212, Estonians from the ancient Estonian county of Sakala, led by elder Lembitu, conquered Pskov. In 1240, German Order troops occupied the city, but in 1242, Alexander Nevsky recaptured the city.

Pskov was the first stop on my visit to Russia. I crossed the border from Estonia on a trip that would take me next to Novgorod, then St. Petersburg, then Karelia. I see what you are doing in this video, concentrating on the remote islands in Lake Psovkoe. For me, however, it was the depth of the history of the region, the beauty of the medieval architecture and a brush with the history of the tradition of the painting of icons. A visit to the Holy Dormiton Monastery in Pechory encapsulated what I enjoyed about my visit to this region. This was the first and, at this point, my only visit to Russia. not traces, east germany was full on slavic until Franks launched crusade against them...Berlin (river rake), Leipzig (linden tree), Lubeck(love) and Dresden (woods) are all old slavic names. majority of them were displaced, killed, enslaved or forcefully converted during that time.

Their settlements can be traced back to 1400 years ago.

Eli, I loved this video ❤ You have such a beautiful soul and in a world where we are taught to hate each other for our differences you show that we have much more in common and love wins in the end. A great big Aussie hug from the land down under.❤❤❤

No, we are not taught to hate each other, this idea comes from russian goverment only. I'm absolutely sure in that, as a russian citizen. But Eli is doing a great job. Эли ты молодец, недавно попал на твой канал случайно и просто обомлел от идеи которую ты взяла за основу и то как ты её продвигаешь.

You are so Correct! There is so much more to Russia than Moscow and international politics. Thank you for showing us the breadth and diversity of your country. My back pain prevents me from travelling, so I visit other countries vicariously via KZbin.
