I actually feel very validated since I don’t celebrate religious holidays mainly due to trauma related to that ( I do plan to eventually) and I realised that I don’t have any nice cozy traditions of my own with me or my loved ones, I felt very … sad tbh and me choosing to do that for 2022 felt like a very brave decision yet I felt nervous for some reason 💀 and just seeing people celebrating and having their own wheel of the year that makes them happy feels very inspiring

Ahh I love to see this! I come from a VERY Catholic family and it runs through my wholeeee moms side. We do Epiphany every year and I love it. Like a huge family spell where we cleanse and protect the whole home for the whole year??? Like yes please. We do it in a very traditional manner we play and sing the three kings music, say our prayers, scatter the holy water, the incense we use Frankincense and myrrh since those are what the three kings gave to baby Jesus along with gold. Often we as kids will get a gift as well. As far as I know we are the only ones in our family who does epiphany and I did used to kinda reject it but now as a more mature witch whos kinda got an idea for my path I am trying to rembrace my Catholic roots and use them in my practice. I am Swedish/Irish mostly so obviously those are historically very Catholic cultures for quite sometime and I realize that the Catholic traditions are really beautiful and I love some of the prayers even if I've lost my faith in the Christian god I find comfort in the prayers. This is my long way of saying I didn't think most witches did these kind of traditions especially if they come from Christian backgrounds and I super love to see you doing it and sharing some of your experience! All the love to you❤️

i’m an italian witch but i really do not connect with catholicism because of many bad things it brought in my life and i tend to avoid it as much as possible. for that reason i fell very blocked because there’s not much italian folklore or traditions that do not include catholic rituals…
@ChaoticWitchAunt2 жыл бұрын
That's okay! Try substituting the Catholic prayers you find with Pagan prayers or just chants/intentions. With the Catholic rituals, you would be surprised at how easy it is to remove them and replace them with pagan rituals and/or prayers!
@olivia27472 жыл бұрын
People who live in the italic peninsula used to be pagan before they were catholic! Research ancient populations of your regions like Romans, Etruschi, Sabini, Piceni and even Celtic in northern Italy. There are so many options to feel connected to your land and ancestors without involving Catholicism

This was my first consious celebration of Epiphany as well! My mom has been doing stuff each year but I've never realised up until I did research myself, I'm finally getting more in touch with my Italian heritage and I will say that is also thanks to you, I never knew about Italian folk magic until you started talking about it and now were here :D so thank you, from the bottom of my heart

I'm really looking forward to the content that you plan to do this year! It seems super interesting! The Epiphany is really big in Spain too, everything revolves around the three Magi Kings, and they were our particular "Santa Claus-like" figure before Santa Claus was introduced along the american culture. The Magi bring gifts for the well-behaved kids and leave some candy, chocolates or treats inside their shoes, while the naughty kids get coal or stones/pebbles. There are also big parades, and for breakfast we have hot chocolate and the Roscón de Reyes, a very special type of cake that hides a tiny figure and a bean; whoever gets the figure in their piece of Roscón is King for a day and the one who gets the bean has to pay for the whole Roscón as to treat the rest of the family. Oh my, sorry for the super long comment, Frankie 😅

here in Veneto during the befana we actually have a celebration where we burn a big statue of an old woman, I think it's mostly about leaving bad things in the past and being propetiatory for agricolture, also based on where the fume goes it signifies a different thing, so a kind of divination. Usually ny city does it in the river but during covid it didnt so in my home we decided to burn a figurine that we made with salt and laurel leaves to make it pop in the fireplace. In my city we also eat a traditional sweet called Bisola. I hope you might find this interesting.

I'm not sure where the Brusavecia (the celebration I talked about) comes from but I would guess from pagan rites, maybe Etruscan ones but I'm not certain

@@eliossole do you know more about where it could come from? I only guessed it could come from a pagan rite but I dont know more
@eliossole2 жыл бұрын
@@lucazanghierato1691 okay so i'm gonna tell you a story bc i feel like even other people could like this. so one time we were doing the brusavecia, and there was this big pile of wood with the vecia on it. she had an old apron around her waist: maybe the knot wasn't tight enough, but it just flew in the air!! like, shot up in the sky. it was amazing, with all the flames. now, onto your question: it is indeed a pagan rite, even the celts did it. for example, i'm from the province of venice, and my mother's surname is of celtic derivation, so my ancestors are probably from that area, and that's why we have a mix of celtic and italian pagan rituals.

@@eliossole cool story! thanks for sharing, in my opinion it probably either comes from the etruscan (italic origin) or the longobards

As an Italian American from New Orleans King's Day (Epiphany) has such layered importance and traditions for me and my family. Add a homemade King Cake to some italian traditions and you have my Epiphany (and honestly all of carnival season)

Thank you for the video. As a witch, coming from a Catholic background, this was really interesting and lovely to see. Realised, apart from the sabbats, I noticed I don't celebrate the holidays with my family, other than Christmas. I am currently looking at more traditional Celtic holidays as I have celtic ancestor. Many Blessings and love from the UK xx

So happy to see so many of the practices and beliefs that surrounded me growing up reflected on your platform! Epifania, writing the magi's initials on doorways, celebrating la Befana ... really excited to see more glimpses into your Italian-American practices! My nonna consistently calls upon St Anthony to help find lost things and swears he always comes through, makes me so happy to see this validated in other witches' experiences :) great content as usual!
