In American English, Chips is a snack that often comes in a bag, but in British English, Chips are French Fries whereas Crisps is the snack that often comes in a bag. That's one example of difference between the two. If she is able to speak in a fluent American English Accent/dialect, then that is certainly not something that would have happened naturally while living in Australia, as they speak with a very distinct accent/dialect that is most often very easy to connect back to Australia.

I am Australian, and I think Jimmy's attempt at a joke about our accent went over the guests head, and everyone else's. We obviously speak english, but we don't learn it from movies and tv like a Russian, Chinese or Indian would. We speak it from birth, just with a different style.
