Absolutely he was very approachable and truly loved music. You could sometimes catch him just randomly playing a piano in a bar, club or hotel. If there was a piano there he would just gravitate to it. He was a good guy.

I got to meet him when I lived in Tampa Florida. I used to work at Busch Gardens and he used to live up the street at the time with his mom and he was one of the nicest people, real smart, intelligent. Dude he was out there talking to the musicians that you see in the commercials, I remember watching 2Pac dance in their videos, and then a couple years ago I heard that shock died. Just kind of broke my heart. I miss him and 2Pac.

I met Shock G a couple years before his death. He had a tough relationship with Humpty. He hung out with us in the studio and freestyled on a track and told me later how much it meant to him that we didn’t ask him to be Humpty on the track. We chatted about jazz and he played the piano and was just a really great hang in the studio where herbie’s headhunters, shock’s freaks of the industry, and 2pacalypse were all recorded. Was so sad to hear of his passing.

That's a dilemma for anyone who creates a truly successful and beloved character. I think of Sherlock Holmes, Slim Shady, and a pre-electric Dylan as examples. After a while, their creators all fought against returning to the characters, only to realize, after a time, that returning wasn't a painful, sell-out move, but just giving people more of what they'd fallen in love with - and that's okay.

I saw DU for the first time in 1997 🤙🏽 I saw them 6 times. Every show was dope. The last time I saw them was at the Viper Room in Hollywood, CA and I saw Shock-G getting out of his limo. I yelled “yo Shock!” he said “Sup? You guys going to the show?” I said “yup” He talked to his bass player and said “make sure these kids get free drinks all night.” It was a dope night! I Remember Shock G Followed me on Twitter Years ago after I made a post about how Extremely Talented he was and how much he should get his Credit for his Contribution to the Rap Game. And I Truly Believe he was a Gentle Spirit and Down the Earth and Very Funny. And I am glad that we can watch his Historical interviews about his Friendship with 2Pac and all the Exciting Times he had with him. Digital Underground's "The Humpty Dance" is and still a classic to this day. Of the five raw elements that make up the "Humpty Dance" drum track, one is a sample from "Sing a Simple Song" by Sly and the Family Stone, in the form of a one-measure-long drum loop. Digital Underground incorporated the Family Stone drum loop with four other raw elements; a deep tonal kick drum that alternated between two bass notes, a handclap snare (also a sample, taken from "Theme From the Black Hole" by the band Parliament), drum-machine hi-hats running continuously throughout which were programmed to 8th-notes, and a guitar hit happening once every bar, all assembled into the now-familiar pattern that forms the Humpty Dance drum track. The vocal sample that happens in the song's chorus sections is from Parliament's "Let's Play House" from their 1980 album, Trombipulation. It has been sampled (frequently, without credit of Digital Underground or Gregory Jacobs (a.k.a. I was in the 12 grade when I first heard the humpty song. When they played that at our school dance we would just go wild 😜. You brought back good memories. My mom may she rest in heaven liked Kiss you back and I get around 😂. Thanks again for another amazing story be blessed

I used to work for a catering company and about 3yrs ago, I was working backstage at a concert in the San Diego sports arena. I was just sitting there waiting for the show to be over, so I could start to pack the truck. Then, from out of no where Shock G walked up to me just to say whats up and to have a goodnight. I was trippin, I mean, I know I was backstage at a concert, but you dont ever really expect a famous person to just walk up to you and say something, lol, at least I dont/didnt... RIP brother.

Thank u for telling this story!!. These songs r so enmeshed in my memories of growing up, they all bring back smiles laughs of times gone by. It pains me to see all these talented brothas lives spiraled out of control and cut short. They gave the world so much joy and to come to such an end is devastating.
