The puzzle here is really good on paper, because if you pay attention to the listed orders you realize it's mirrored. The second torch is the order of the first flipped horizontally, the third torch is flipped vertically, and the fourth is flipped both ways. The symbols tell you which axis you're flipping on, and it's a real clever retooling of the first level's pattern. Only problem is that it isn't clear that the bar in each symbol is supposed to be a mirror, so while I got the solution from this video I didn't get it until then.

Once I read this and noticed the key at 1:06.. I hit pause...I drew the arrows and filled in the arrows with colored pens...then i started flipping it upside down and even flipped the page over and upside down...since the marker showed through the paper...i was able to figure this out..after seeing the full video...it makes complete sense

I looked up the trick for the chapter 1 heart and was impressed of how smart it was. I decided I should figure out for myself how to get the rest. It took me a while to come up with a solution for this one. At first I noticed that dashes in this room sound different depending on direction, I turned off the music and spend about 10 minutes on silent dashing. Then I turned music on. I was thinking I should repeat the music using my dashes but quickly understood that this is impossible. Then I remembered the solution for the first chapter and get my 1st torch burning. For the rest I tried to reverse the sequence of dashes at first. And only after realized that I am doing "Reflection" chapter. Reflection? A-ha! I love this game.

3 years late, but the first pattern is the same pattern for the crystal heart in chapter 1, and you re-use it here to get the first torch. Maybe it's because I'd done both crystal hearts in the same day but I caught onto that immediately since I recognized the color pattern being the same, though I didn't realize the next patterns were mirrored, I thought I had to do it in reverse or something but once I realized they're mirrored the rest is easy

Funny thing about this too, it didn’t occur to me what I had to do with the other torches and thought they were like.. playback buttons so I thought I had to do it backwards for one. But when that didn’t work, I thought back to the chapter’s title and realized “Wait, Reflections. The other torches are supposed to be “follow the order, but reflect it horizontally/vertically where you can, isn’t it?” As for the fourth one, I figured “chances are it’s just a straight up “invert the pattern completely.” So.. that’s how I figured my way out of that one for anyone scrolling through the comments. I thought this was a music puzzle at first, since dashing in a specific direction plays a note, so I played the background melody using the dash, then, after many attempts of failure, I realized nothing of it was related to the colors and the torches with the symbols on the wall, so I remembered the bird puzzle and felt so dumb. Oh. Now I understand. I looked up a guide that just told me the dash order back when I got this heart because I didn't know what to do and why to do it. Just saw it as a weird room. But now I find it stupid that you have to get info from other levels over. For C1 already I stuggled. Because my memory instantly overlaid what to do after seing the next color. I appreciate it, but I'm still a little baffled. The birds only hover in one predetermined course. I'm not sure how that ends up becoming four separate patterns. Are parts of the patterns being... swapped, in correspondence with the wall symbols, or something?

I'll do my best to explain. In chapter one when you reach the area with the crystal hearts, the computer and satellite dish in that chapter is broadcasting a signal. It's a series of colors. It repeats this signal over and over again. White, Purple, Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow. The computer screen flashes these colors, as does the antennae at the end of the satellite dish. There are 5 birds flying around nearby. They correspond to those colors. There a White bird, a Purple bird, a Blue bird, a Red bird, and a Yellow bird. After the computer broadcasts that color sequence, the birds all dash in different directions. The white bird dashes up, the purple bird dashes left, the blue bird dashes down right, the red bird dashes up right, and the yellow bird dashes up left. You assign the direction each bird dashed to the color of the bird. The purple bird dashed left, so purple means dash left. The red bird dashed up right, so red means dash up right. The sequence was White, Purple, Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow. So following that sequence and assigning the directions to the colors based on the birds, you dash White Up, Purple Left, Blue Down Right, Red Up Right, Purple Left, Yellow Up left. When you reach the cave in Chapter 6, there are 6 diamonds on the wall in the background, that are the same colors. White, Purple, Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow. It's the same color sequence that was being broadcast by the computer from chapter 1. So remembering what you figured out in Chapter 1, you dash in that same sequence from the birds in Chapter 1. This lights up the first of 4 torches on the wall. This torch has a play button next to it. An arrow facing forward. > The second torch has a similar button next to it, but it has arrows pointing left and right >|

BornFlunky Yes, there is one original pattern, and the other three are derived from that. The second one swaps the colors (or their correlation with the directions) relative to the middle vertical line. The third swaps them relative to the middle orizontal line. The last one (that has no symbol) swaps the colors of every two opposite directions.

When I encountered this puzzle, I looked up the Steam guide to figure it out, but, even then, I couldn't figure out why the solution was what it was until I watched this video. Personally, I think this puzzle requires a bit too much outside knowledge with how, from what I've gathered reading other comments, the symbols for the second and third torches are from editing software. For those of us that don't use that type of thing very much, we are basically screwed unless we look up a guide or get really lucky when guessing how to solve it. Well, at least it isn't as dumb as the crystal heart in the Ridge. Expecting people to figure that one out is just ridiculous.

To add to this comment section: I found the room on my own (by neutral jumping all the way up lol) and was confused at first, after randomly dashing for a bit, I noticed that there were different sounds depending on where you dash. I recognized that the solution was something to do with the birds in ch1, but since I recall looking that up as well like a year ago I didn't wanna bother and just looked up the rest. I wouldn't have seen that those were mirrors. In defense of this puzzle, noone is forced to complete it, it is completely optional, the same way higher difficulty settings in other games may be completely avoided even if there's an achievement attached to them. This puzzle in particular seems like some sort of ultimate challenge that's only supposed to be solved by the best, not every puzzle is supposed to be easy and if you really need the achievement, do what we all did, look it up, it's fine. Games are meant to be played however you want.

It's a bit much to ask the player to remember the pattern for the first crystal heart located in the first level, and that is assuming you decoded the pattern. By the time you do reach "Reflections", I seriously doubt anyone would think back to the colour pattern after going through so many platform trials before hand. I had little idea what those symbols beneath the crystals meant, so I looked it up. It bothers me a bit, but instead of jotting down the directions, I just took note of what the symbols meant. Then I wrote each pattern. That's how I figured out the fourth one, but with a hint. I'm not video editor after all!

After finding the location, this puzzle took me 40 minutes to do This is by far the hardest crystal heart (excluding b-sides) Even if you don't get the reference in chapter 4, you're bound to figure out that ducking on it will solve the puzzle after a couple minutes

To finish this puzzle without external help you need to remember what directions the birds dashed in in chapter 1 or quit the level and check chapter one. Basically nobody remembers the order so I don’t think this is a very good puzzle. With 30 minutes and a notepad most people could figure it out but that seems unreasonable to ask of the player.
