@HiZero820 Backwards Long Jump. It's a term that in recent years has found itself sprinkled in and amongst a handful of places across the general gaming lexicon, though is most typically used in relation to Super Mario 64 to describe an inverted Long Jump, performed up certain inclines. Instead of moving Mario forward, the jump ends up with him landing behind his starting position, but due to some peculiarities regarding the angle of the incline and the way SM64 handles negative speed, it becomes very easy to build up a lot of momentum in a very short time, which eventually leads to Mario moving so fast can clip through most walls. You may or may not have already seen a Backwards Long Jump in some form without knowing what it was called, being one of the more talked about glitches, useful or otherwise, but if you need a more visceral example, just search up a tutorial for it, it should become very clear. 😊

It's one of those terms that you've probably heard here and there, and it gets thrown about in the general gaming lexicon, but it originates from Super Mario 64, typically with regards to Speedrunning, where you're able to have Mario perform a Long Jump, but land behind your starting position. This action possesses some peculiarities with inclines at certain angles (I.e., the straight staircases in and about the Castle, most commonly) allowing you to jump behind your start point multiple times in rapid succession, gaining speed very quickly. Combine this peculiarity with the fact that SM64 essentially has no limit to how fast you can move whilst travelling backwards, because the developers obviously never expected you to even be able to attempt going that fast without facing forward, and you're able to build up enough speed to clip through most any solid object in the game. The term "Backwards Long Jump" has become something of a meme ever since, and because of how violent an action it is by comparison to anything else SM64 intends for you to do, and how out of character it is for a character like Mario to be performing it, it's often times used to describe any kind of sudden, reverse movement tech. You may or may not have already seen it in action, but if you need a more visceral example, there are plenty of BLJ tutorials that will showcase it adequately. 😊 (I had already typed a comment similar to this one, but I think KZbin ate it or something, so if it shows up, I apologise for the double post lol)
