She was performing in Spanish for a African audience. No one in the crowd understood a word she was saying and still were grooving to her music. That says a lot.

it might say that international audiences are more open to visiting artists, and they enjoy the music more that those folks who get stuck in rejecting a singer just because they cannot understand what he/she is saying. We do know that when English speaking singers go on world wide tours , in many countries, only few in the audience understand the words, but surely it looks as if everybody has a great time.

The history of Cuba and the Caribbean is very interesting. The music, rhythm, and beats was greatly influenced by the African slaves who were brought by the Spanish to work the sugar cane and tobacco fields. Spain was a major player in the Atlantic slave trade, one of the biggest slave traders was Portugal, who brought over 4 million Africans to Brazil.

SUPA LEXY it matters to me, because I’m Dominican and extremely proud of him, he compose music for Celia Cruz and other artist of her caliber. As a matter of fact the album that this song “Quimbara” is on is a joint album of the two artists and that album is called “Celia Cruz y Johnny Pacheco”. The author of Quinbara by the way is Junior Cepeda who is Puerto Rican. 🇵🇷 🇨🇺 🇩🇴

She loved singing & entertaining and loved her audience and in return her audience returned that love to her live.... You did not stay sittibg at any of her concerts... Unless you were paralized, by the middle of her first song you were up and dancing... And she dance right through her concerts and did not lypsynch...all the wait until her death... The best thing that has come out of Cuba. Keep in mind she was born in 1925 abd this concert was around 1973 or so, so she was in her late 40's... No one ever has had half the energy Celia brought to her perfornances.

🎤🎶📖🎼💯JOHNNY PACHECO🇩🇴 he inherited his passion for music from his father, Rafael Azarias Pacheco, who was the band's leader and clarinetist in the "Santa Cecilia Orchestra". In the late 1940s, when Pacheco was 11 years old, his family moved to New York City from his native Dominican Republic. He continued to hone his musical skills, learning to play the accordion, violin, saxophone, and clarinet. He attended the Juilliard School of Music to study percussion. Playing the flute, saxophone, and varied percussion, Pacheco performed with Charlie Palmieri's Latin Orchestra for several years before forming his own band in 1959. Experimentation was the focus of his new band, combining African music from Cuba, the Dominican Republic. and Port. Rich heritage in what became known as salsa. In 1960, he organized his first orchestra, "Pacheco y Su Charanga". The band signed with Alegre Records and their first album "Johnny Pacheco y Su Charanga" sold more than 100,000 copies in the first year. From then until the end of 1963, Pacheco introduced a new dance fashion called "Pachanga". He became an internationally renowned star and toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Also, "Pacheco y Su Charanga" was the first Latin band to headline the Apollo Harlem, NYC in 1962 and 1963.💯🎶📖😇

she was and still is the ONLY AFRO LATINA THAT MANAGED TO REACHED WORLD STARDOM WITH HER MUSIC! TO THIS DAY NO OTHER AFRO LATINA HAS MANAGED TO ACHIEVE WHAT CELIA CRUZ DID! to us afro Latinos she is a legend, the legend that made the Latin world acknowledge our existence! to this day male afro Latinos have more chance of becoming world-famous then us girls! a fine example of that is Ozuna! Amara la Negra is an exception to that rule because she started out in America! even so with all the support, Amara got in the USA she still didn't manage to achieve what Celia Cruz did in her career!

@@shaiskaI think you’re misunderstanding. The problem in Latin America is colorism, for a long time I hated my native roots and wishing that I look like someone the fully blooded white men that I saw on magazines. I’m whiteish and always wanted to claim I was white even though my mom clearly isn’t. We need to stop hating ourselves and that also stems into the Afro-Latino conversation

I did back up for her in Miami, for a few years...That powerful ring to her voice, was soo natural and awesome...It's a scating song... Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim bara...Hey mama, hey hey mama...The rumba is calling me, bongo tell her I'm coming...Tell her to wait for a moment, while I sing this wa wan co....Tell her it's not out of contempt for her, for she lives in my heart...My whole life is about, a good rumba and wa wan co...Hey mama, hey hey mama...OMG!..What a mess...And it says...Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim bara...If you want to have fun and you want to dance, Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim bara...Teresa dances it and also Jose-ito...Kimbara, kim bara, kum ba kim. on the low...KIMBARA!... And, you are soo right...She was the Queen of Cuban music...The King was Beny More...Maybe you should do him also...Listen to this link before you see the video and then look at the video...Since he was very particular of the instruments and if one missed a note, his fine ear would tell him on the spot and the musicians were soo attend to his every move because he had to direct the band to be pleased...He was a character indeed...He would be booked at a club for a gig and he would find a girl the night before, get drunk and not show up...LOL...Then out of the blue the band would show up at the club and play for free...The club owners would not mind, because as soon as one person would see him, they would run and call the people and the place would fill onto the streets...People would follow him on the streets to the point, he had to move to Mexico for a few years...LOL...Where ever he stepped, it would turn into a party...When he was 7, his mother said she was checking up on the kids at 1 AM and could not find him, so she ran to the streets looking for him...She heard music and there she found him entertaining most of the towns people...They were soo intrigued, she could only stand there and watch him until 3 AM...LOL...When Michael Jackson did his famous little screams, I was well accustomed to it, because i heard it from Benny for many years before...LOL...Too bad youtube doesn't have too many live recordings of him with the band...Most are clips from Mexican movies he did while in Mexico and they aren't the real Benny from Cuba...PS,there's no such thing as "Salsa music...It's all Cuban rhythms thrown into one word and it's not Puerto Rican music, but Cuban music done by Puerto Rican musicians...Don't let them fool you...It's mostly african slave music, done with european flair... And we have we have Ernesto Lecuona to thank for that..LOL...Enjoy!....kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4fbg2mYqsmMga8

She was an amazing woman, her life story is heartbreaking but she always put her best out there for her fans. Her energy and love for music and entertaining just made her performances out of this world. The Queen of Salsa, Celia Cruz RIP.

Wow! First time watching this video and totally grooving in that vibe here in my couch lol. I was first introduced to Celia Cruz when I was a child about the time this concert was happening. I watched her on Sesame Street and never forgot her and remember her "Azucar" back then.

This is our queen Celia!😍 U see that man who got filled by the spirit! She dabbled in Cuban Santeria which comes from the Yoruba religion as my family does, she could do that to you w her music n her frequency, especially in person!

Iconic songs by Celia Cruz you should react to: "La Negra Tiene Tumbao" (The black lady walks with grace) dedicated to the grace of black women, and "La Vida es un Carnaval".

Rumba cubana ! This music is pure magic. Not only a display of extremely dedicated musicians. But it will go through your ears into your blood stream and every single cell of your body. You can feel it. You may not know how to move to it but you can feel it And the conductor of the orchestra ( who briefly danced rumba with Celia) is the great Johnny Pacheco. Another one of the greatest of Latin Afro Caribbean music

She is the Queen of Salsa, she is legendary to us Hispanics. I got to see her live in Miami with my mom. As old as she was at the time Celia Cruz rocked it and put on one hell of a show.

This was a great performance. If you can see the whole show check it out. I believe James Brown also performed that night. Celia Cruz is a legend! Also, funny how much she & Patti Labelle resemble one another in younger photos. They did a live performance together, I think it may have been this song.

I had the great fortune to see Celia Cruz and Tito Punte at Kimballs East in Oakland CA in the early 90s. I will never forget! Everyone in the place was dancing, everyone. bartenders waiters even the security guards. Ever since thats what I think heaven will be like. No hate ,no differenced, just pure love and rhythmic joy all together dancing.

Celia RIP! She was always on point. She was the epitome of elegance of the late 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. JLO, Gloria Estefan. Shakira idolized her. She gave all Latina singers a Benchmark to strive for. Enjoy!😎👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
