That's a shame. I kinda like a touch of French accent especially in songs. In general, I don't think people should completely get rid of their native accents when learning other languages.

It's so strange to see her at 15, with so many of the same facial expressions and mannerisms as she has now! I mean she's the same person but still! And it's amazing how much natural expression and understanding she puts into the phrases she has learned even at this very early age! A natural aptitude, a level of human-to-human empathy that transcends language barriers, and a LOT of hard work.

According to Celine Dion an interview on "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" in 1990, she already sang in the English language before but wanted to communicate in English with her fans while understanding what she performed. The interview is on KZbin, but this one confirms Celine was a Berlitz school student.

Your absolutely right.. Lady of Love & Heartbreak. She is the best at singing about heartbreak, the pain and struggle of love, loss, or love not returned, especially in her first 7 French albums. The vast majority of people suffer and struggle through life and they can relate and really feel her songs. If only Eddy Marnay were alive today to write Celine more songs!

I have just got back from Canada and the view there is that francophone Canadians cam also speak English but often choose not to out of an expectation that anglophones should speak French in Quebec, so I am surprised to see that she was literally monolingual until later in life. I have never heard of a French Canadian being unable to speak English.
