This song by Piaf is part of the musical heritage of my country and Céline's interpretation was simply magnificent. I think the emotion has crossed languages and cultures around the world, a song written by a woman (Piaf) for the man she loved (Cerdan) and who died shortly after; Céline's story ties in with Piaf's story (the death of the loved one) which makes the meaning and interpretation of this song even stronger and I admit it made me cry. She sang this same song in 2015 ( search the title song with Celine and you'll find it). SPS was already affecting her voice somewhat pronounced, in her performance, even then. She wasn't able to hit the higher notes in 2015. This performance tonight was so much better and she had so much more confidence in her abilities. I cried the entire time. I can't imagine how emotional she was while singing. During the pause of her lyrics, you could tell she was keeping it together, so she didn't become too emotional. Hi Marco, I love Celine so much. I have suffered the same disease for many years. I used to sing, it robbed me of my singing voice to this day. It robbed me of my life almost. I do not know of any fellow sufferers who would manage to pull anything major off & that often includes getting down the street let alone singing on the Eiffel Tower! We or I can never pre-plan for anything because we could be laid up or unable to function fully on the day. I know we have a very rare disease, 70 of us diagnosed in England. I cannot possibly imagine the planning that went into this fabulous feat that Celine pulled off at the Olympics. Obviously she is in a position to have all the help medically and vocally to get her where she was up on the Eiffel Tower alone let alone singing to her usual amazing high standard. I find the whole thing amazing with happy tears and emotion but no-one spontaneously recovers from this disease. We have no cure. I wish she could tell us how she got to this point. I can't even get outside today, just in my garden a little. I wish I understood but I love Celine & I'm thrilled she made it somehow. I hope to God she really is back ❤❤❤

It's not about the language, it's about how you sing it. Celine called it "to un-sing" in an interview. She explained the difference in ways of singing for the american market and the french market. She said that the french market is more complex because we like emotions in music, just the voice of the singer, the emotions, and the music. While in the US, it's more about the show, how spectacular it sounds and looks.

I was looking online for a replay of Celine Dione’s masterful performance last night of Edith Piaf’s “l’Hymne à l’Amour. » I have been a great fan of Piaf ever since my college French prof introduced me to her music in 1969. Celine literally succeeded in inhabiting the essence of Piaf in last night’s emotional performance, but added an even more beautiful and personal interpretation. I literally broke down and sobbed from emotion. I was a French major in college and am a lover of French music and culture. I am a long time member of the Columbus Symphony Chorus ( Columbus OH). You put words on my reaction when watching her last night. To me, she sounds way better than before, not as nasal. I'm French but often say that French is not the best-sounding language there is (Italian might be though!) but I think French has rarely sounded so good. It was beautiful. I also loved the little crack you talked about! France adores Céline and I'm glad she was very well received by fans before and after her performance. I saw someone on Twitter say she's basically like royalty and I think that's pretty accurate 😆

🎉This performance was beyond fantastic. A platinum medal with diamonds! Thanks Marco for this heartfelt, emotional and sincere review. I cried yesterday afternoon when watching the life performance, last night in a replay, this morning on CBC and now during your review. They left the very best for the last. They really did! Merci, merci cher Celine. And merci Edith Piaf for bringing this song into the world... Celine's performance will be talked about for years, centuries. B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L!!!

I have been listening to Céline since the early 90s, when I was in middle school, during my formative years of my love of music and singing. I've always said she is the best female vocalist ever, especially from a technical perspective. But her drive, her heart, her passion, that is what inspires me the most.
She was pure gold last night. Absolutely unforgettable. Celine for ever

I am not a vocal musician, but I do have my degree in Music Education. This performance was in my opinion absolute perfection. Her expressions were pure honesty. Pure emotion will bring true emotions to her audience. What more can a musician ask for. Well Done, Celine. You have made your comeback. Keep going.

Love your honest reactions which mirror my own but for the insights of a vocal coach. What a monumental comeback!!! She chose well on every level of the performance, but I am dazzled by her choice of attire. That exquisite gown with dazzling sparkles and simple lines and dramatic train from the shoulders...Oh! That song with her voice and the emotion that can only come from one has been through so much, spectacular.

The blue sky over us can collapse on itself and the ground can (really) cave in. Little matters to me if you love me I couldn't care less about the whole world As long as love will flood my mornings As long as my body will tremble under your hands The problems make little difference to me My love, because you love me. I will go to the end of the world I will dye my hair blond If you ask me to I will go take down the moon I will steal fortune if you ask me to. I will renounce my country I will renounce my friends if you ask me to. One could really laugh at me I will do anything if you ask me to. if one day life tears you away from me if you die than you will be far from me what's it matter if you love me because I will die too. We will have for us, eternity in the blue of all the immensity in heaven, no more problems my love do you believe that we love each other God, reunite those who love each other Translation lyrics. Bonne journée et bonne écoute de la France 🇨🇵

What a glorious performance! The song was a perfect choice for personal (her husband's memory) and symbolic reasons (Edith Piaf is THE French singer and this is one of her most beloved songs). She was so connected to the lyrics, and Paris and the Eiffel Tower made everything more emotional, if possible. What a come back for one of the greatest singers of this generation ❤
