Unfortuately it is not back as she's lip syncing here. People say "Who cares! Everyone lip syncs!". The problem is she is the most famous representative of her medical condition, and this gives false expectations to everyone else on the planet who has this condition, and is maybe a singer themselves. If it were me I would be very frustrated that Celine Dion seemingly completely beat her condition (or works around it successfully) and I can't!

As a French girl, Celine truly did the impossible and I am still overwhelmed by her performance. This was pure masterclass. That was pure poetry in motion. How she was able to pull that off will forever be a mystery to me. L'Hymne à l'Amour was the song I literally couldn't stop singing during my middle school years. This song is so HARD to sing that I could never master it. It brings back so many memories. I was humming it not even a few days ago. But now? I feel unworthy because Celine took it to a place that makes it untouchable to human beings. Knowing what she had to endure. Knowing that she could relate to every lyric to the song because she went through loss and grief... The power she brought to the song. She even sang with the innocence and vulnerability we can hear in some of her older French songs such as "Ziggy" or "D'amour ou d'amitié" which is absolutely crazy! I will never recover from her rendition. I am on my knees Céline. Thank you so much for this moment ❤

She really follows the tones and stresses of Edith Piaf's original performance - a lot of the shifts between the power and the softness are just magnificently reproduced rather than choices she's making. Don't get me wrong -- she is definitely making choices here and there and putting her own mark on it -- but a significant part is just her doing the song JUSTICE. Which she absolutely did.
@yossibarzilai38204 ай бұрын
I agree, and that´s the way covers should really be. Do the song justice, don’t ruin the original, just add your voice but don’t try to outsing the original artist cause you’ll ruin the whole thing. Just add your personality by adding your voice, that’s what Celine did… and she made history.

I am from the same Province in Canada that Céline is from. I am at least 12 yrs older than Her… I saw Her grow from a young girl (She was 12 yrs old when She started). I witnessed Her successes, Her stumbling blocks and Her victories. Tonight was a Victory for Her. I went to see Her live , 34 yrs ago, when Her first english album hit the Charts … She as worked hard all Her life. My children have grown up with her songs in our Home. She was, She is and will always be this Legend of a Singer. She has gone through so much with Her health. So many of us feel for Her in this part of the world. She is our National Treasure. Tonight, I cried my eyes out because it was the strong Céline, singing with her Heart and emotions that is deeply ingrained inside of Her. One also has to know the story behind Edith Piaf particular song to truly comprehend the meaning it had for Madame Piaf and the people of France because Madame Piaf was their National Treasure. Céline rendered it with the same emotion because She has gone through personal griefs. Tonight, I feel, was a moment in time for Her within the brightly lit Tour Eiffel. Vive Céline!!!!! ❤

In addition to the incredible courage it took to step out there in front of a zillion people and sing full out - knowing her muscles and vocal cords could freeze up at any time - what self control not to break down crying in the emotion of the moment. She has missed singing so much. A true musician like her cannot live without music. She is an instrument of art and we are so lucky to have had years of listening to her sing at her best (which was, like, every time she opened her mouth.) She has impeccable technique, and respect for the vocal instrument, And she's just so incredibly talented and open. I so love her. I cried my eyes out watching this. That first note -- goosebumps of anticipation. Roaring with the crowd.

Interesting analysis. As a French-speaking Quebecer, I was able to appreciate her emotional interpretation of this song. But I do have the impression that even for someone who doesn't understand French, could feel the emotion! Clearly, she had prepared well for this classic French song. A better interpretation than the one she gave at the American Music Award. Still strong, but with a lot of nuance. better felt. Definitely not the same emotions... She kept us waiting until the very end, the last one to play, but what a comeback! She's given herself nothing less than the Tour Effel.

It brought me to tears, both because of her own tragic backstory and the song she sang borne of heartbreak, Edith Piaf's "Hymne à l'amour", composed after her lover was killed in a plane crash. If you know what the lyrics mean you'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel it: If the sky should fall into the sea And the stars fade all around me For the times that we have known here I will sing a hymn to love We have lived and dreamed, we two alone In a world that seemed our very own With it's memory ever grateful Just for you, I'll sing a hymn to love I remember each embrace The smile that lights your face And my heart begins to sing Your arms, the hands secure Your eyes that said, "Be sure" And my heart begins to sing If one day we had to say goodbye And our love were to fade away and die In my heart you will remain dear I will sing a hymn to love Those who love will live eternally In the blue, where all is harmony With my voice raised high to heaven Just for you, I'll sing a hymn to love.

I loved her performance because it sounded beautiful, but I appreciate it even more now after hearing your analysis! Thank you for that breakdown - very cool stuff!

You really need to listen to the original by Piaf. Celine has always been able to sing in this guttural, mask forward chanteuse style. Yes, she is French Canadian, but the Quebecois style is again quite different. Celine is the best selling French Language recording artist of all time! She did this for France, and with more than slight homage to the great Edith Piaf. Listen to Celine's gorgeous 1995 concert in Paris. Astounding. 29 years later - she is a miracle.

The knowledge that she could have had a seizure at any point of that performance. Before, in the middle, near or after the end... My goodness. I have to watch this video before bed every night. It makes so happy.

Great to see her performing again but she wasn't singing live - it was all pre-recorded . Wings of Pegasus has a video about how the vocal was pitch-corrected .

----------------------- Hymn to Love The blue sky can collapse on us And the earth can crumble away It doesn't matter to me if you love me I don't care about the whole world As long as love floods my mornings As long as my body trembles under your hands I don't care about the troubles My love, since you love me I would go to the end of the world I would dye my hair blonde If you asked me to I would reach for the moon I would steal fortune If you asked me to I would renounce my homeland I would renounce my friends If you asked me to They can laugh at me I would do anything If you asked me to If one day life tears you away from me If you die far from me It doesn't matter if you love me Because I would die too We will have eternity for us In the blue of all immensity In Heaven, no more problems My love, do you think we love each other God unites those who love each other

I have watched her sing everyday maybe 4 times daily. So happy to hear her sing again, mesmerizing. Honey, that apple tree gave us plenty of apples, oranges, grapes and everything else. Bountifully!
