Get Mr. W's Ultimate AP Bio Course Outline! Your first step to AP Bio Success: apbiosuccess.com/AP-Bio-Outline
In this video, Mr. W demonstrates selective permeability using dialysis tubing, fructose-starch solution, and iodine solution. The video uses animation and explanation to demonstrate selective permeability and to connect it to the molecular characteristics of starch, fructose, and iodine.
This video can be used to help students master AP Biology Topic 2.5 (selective permeability) and it’s a part of the official AP Biology Diffusion and Osmosis Lab.
Trying to increase success in biology? Check out Mr. W's interactive biology curriculum, learn-biology.com. You won’t believe how much biology you - or your students - will learn.

Probably, but that’s not the point of this experiment. It’s really about tracking movement of the solute. Looking at the water change would be more about osmosis, and there are better labs to do that with

hey, I just thought if the contents were to leak then starch would appear in the iodine solution too however it didn't so maybe that would prove the leak and we would see fructose and starch apparent.

Why the fructose test strip turned positive when dipped in the solution
@DulceAlondra93
@DulceAlondra93 3 жыл бұрын
Because the dialysis tube is selectively permeable to fructose. This means the original fructose that was in the bag is allowed to move outside the bag and into the water. An example of the opposite of this would be starch. The dialysis tube is NOT selectively permeable to starch. This means the starch that was in the bag is NOT allowed to move outside the bag into the water.
