I've got one of these and I must say, I love using a landline phone everybody thinks I'm crazy for doing that but landline phones are far superior to these smart phones plus it's just fun to use a landline. Plus you can hook multiple landline phones up to it and it still works :)
@JordanU2 жыл бұрын
I much prefer the landline form factor as well. I still have a landline connection at home and that's what I use most of the time. On the rare occasion I get a call to my cellphone at home, it's answered through this adapter. I can leave the cellphone plugged in, no need to remember to charge it up, leave it upstairs where it gets a good signal and take my cordless phone into the basement and still have a clear connection. It's absolutely brilliant.

Thank you - that was going to be my question, if you can plug it in to a wall jack and have all the landline phones in the house ring
@techwithtyler20 Жыл бұрын
@@jsalvatori You just need to make sure your jacks are no longer being powered by anything else, such as any previous provider you may have had. To make sure you're feeding into inactive jacks, make sure you don't hear a dial tone or anything when picking up a phone connected to them. If you still do, make sure to disconnect your old feed before connecting Cell2Jack, otherwise the power going into the line port will cause damage.
@jsalvatori Жыл бұрын
@@techwithtyler20 thanks. I have it connected now (for about 2 weeks at this point) and it's working well. Only thing is the supply doesn't have enough power to make the 2 furthest phones ring. But you can still answer and dial on them
@techwithtyler20 Жыл бұрын
@@jsalvatori You can increase the ringing power by dialing 21#. There's likely still a REN limit due to the device's size and power specs. Are those 2 phones bell ringers? If not, I can't see what the issue is. I have heard that line power degrades the more it splits, but that's quite strange for an electrical circuit.

Does the fax work with this in your setup? I've heard it doesn't work, and have tested with the HP faxback service (1-888-HPFAXME) and it doesn't work. The printer does recognize the tones enough to start scanning, but the send fails and I never get a receive. I could see this working for some but not others, due to the differences in cell phones and networks.

I like the idea of this device connecting to my wireless landline phones. I've 6 wireless landline phones throughout my home that are connected to one base. It's ideal when I am not carrying my cellphone on me or if you cannot hear your cellphone ringing. But, the flaw I've experienced with this device is the range/distance is awful. Especially, if you want to use your cellphone when you're out of the device's direct line-of-sight without any obstructions of floors, ceilings, walls, doors and distance of this device does not work. If it had an antenna or an option to connect an antenna to boost it's transmitter range would DEFINITELY be worth buying. But, for occasions where you're not 10 feet away from this device might be handy. But, who wants to sit next to this device 24/7 to have the convenience of answering a call when you holding your cellphone? And, for it to work means leaving your cellphone on 24/7, which I never do because of overheating and to just give my cellphone a chance to cool down, rest and make it last longer.
@n1kkri Жыл бұрын
Could you clear something up. As long as the cell phone is close to the cell2jack and if the cell2jack is plugged into the existing landline wiring which the cordless phone base is also plugged into the landline wiring for use with all its cordless phones, and my existing wired phones, everything should work perfectly? Is that correct? My plan was to have the Cell2Jack within a couple feet of my cellphone in my office. I have a wall outlet close that would feed the house's landline. The only downside would be if you need to take the cell phone out of the picture when you return does it connect quickly to the cell2jack or do you find yourself having to constantly go through a bluetooth connect configuration. That would be a show stopper for me.
@Xyspade2 жыл бұрын
The slightly worse quality from the device rather than talking on the cell phone itself may be due to limitations of Bluetooth, which I believe does not have enough bitrate to match the VoLTE quality when transmitting two audio streams at once (incoming and outgoing). The sound quality of Bluetooth is much better when only working with one audio stream (example, a wireless speaker for music). I've noticed that when I use Bluetooth headphones with macOS, the audio quality is great so long as the headphones' microphone is disabled. If I enable it, the quality instantly drops to something out of a 240p Adobe Flash video from 2006. It would have been nice had the Cell2Jack been able to connect to the cell phone over USB or 3.5mm instead of requiring Bluetooth, which is what I thought it could do when I first found it on the eRipoff, but turns out that port is just a pass-through for charging (which probably isn't a great idea to use anyway).
@JordanU2 жыл бұрын
That's very probable, I've noticed a reduction in quality even with the Panasonic Bluetooth cordless phones. I remember the Uniden Bluetooth phone sounding a fair bit better than the Panasonic one did, but that was with the old phone. I've never tried it with the new one, I'll have to do that sometime. I'm not sure I'd trust the USB port either. I don't know how well the thing is built itself, and I'd be concerned about overloading the USB power supply. I suspect the device itself draws a considerable amount of power, especially when ringing.

Definitely has nothing to do with the Cell2Jack, it's most likely just a coincidence. The only way it could have to do with it is if you enable unknown call silencing, and the unknown calls still ring on the Bluetooth devices such as the Cell2Jack-connected phones.

@JordanU2 жыл бұрын
Verizon charges extra for CNAM callerID; I don't subscribe to it. The device fills both the top and bottom lines of the callerID with the phone number, so while I can't say for certain, it seems to have the capacity to transmit both lines if the data was provided by your cellphone.

My only phone service is a single cell phone and I do not have a laptop or desktop computer, but do have an iPad and Wi-Fi Bluetooth. I have been shopping for an old handset telephone such as the 302 which I hope to make viable with cell2jack. As the old phones I am considering to buy are refurbished and expensive, I want to be sure that my indulgence in this endeavor is not for naught. Any further guidance you might give would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Barry

that is a cool device. I am going to have to get one... I have for a while been thinking of getting one of the boxes that works with the google voices, but I never use my google voices number and would never use it... This way I could call and receive calls through a real phone using my number from the Bluetooth on my cell phone which would be something I would use a lot more... This will work with an old corded phone that is powered through the phone line and has no external power supply? I have one of those old AT&T desk phones that has a real bell inside of it... I really like the way that phone feels in the hand compared to the cell phone which is really just flat.
@JordanU2 жыл бұрын
Don't bother with those Google Voices boxes. I've dealt with them before--they're unreliable garbage. They're also being discontinued in a couple of years. This will work with those old AT&T desk phones, it has a setting for increasing the ring power and line voltage to what the old mechanical ringer sets require. I too have always preferred the landline form factor over the cellphone's handset for many reasons. This is the perfect solution for those who share that opinion.

Too bad this device doesn't have a way to plug in an external antenna so its signal will go further. Because, who wants to leave their cellphone next to the cordless landline phone's base for it to work. It defeats the whole purpose of having a smartphone that you can't use/browse too far away from the device. And, you have to have your cellphone on all the time for the landlines to ring. So, no listening to music on your cellphone to Bluetooth headphones or speakers while this device is to be used simultaneously. Pass.
@JordanU Жыл бұрын
If you keep your cellphone with you, then the device serves no purpose. The point of this is for people that don't like to use cellphones and don't want to carry one around the house constantly.
