All great points. Tobacco will never be cheaper than it is now. And I don’t have a crystal ball, but it may never be more available. I’ve only been smoking a pipe for 3 years but have built a decent enough cellar to last me for another 20+ years. I’m buying much more than I consume each year. I will keep this up for a few more years and then I should be safe. I am very discerning about what I buy and if I make a mistake I try to trade for something I like as we all have different tastes. I do tend to buy more Virginias and VaPers as those tend to age better. Thanks for the informative video.

This was very informative! Did not know denmark and netherlands have stopped exports. Im half german and can believe this is going to happen there too. I wondered what the price appreciation of pipe tobacco is like. Looking at building a cellaring process with a friend. But want to try aged vs fresh.

Yeah it’s a shame it’s starting to happen. Building a cellar is a must in the long run!

I went over the deep end about 10 years ago buying volumes during the run-up of the last tobacco-pocalypse in the States (still hasn't happened). Bought a few of other people's cellars that were quitting, took advantage of sales, etc. My consumption has dropped a lot since then as well - Not sad I did though a bit crazy at the time. I have a lifetime supply now, probably, but now that I know how to get HU - I have to resist urges again. 😅

That’s sounds great. End of you the day you can never have to much, as if you wanted to pass on some of your tobacco to free up space or cash, there will always be demand and a secondary market for it. Yeah I can imagine the HU portion of your cellar will be growing 😂

Would love to know how you found peoples cellars? Looking to go deep into cellaring but dont want to start from scratch. Any info would help.

A great video on what is a very subjective topic. I agree with all but would also add I'm trying to get a cellar in place for retirement as tobacco will def be a luxury item on a pension.

Not easy when I want to smoke it when I buy it, so like you always buy 2 when I need 1 and so on.

Yeah great point mate. Thats partly what I’m doing with cigars. Buying and saving what I can when I can. As with cigar prices already so high, I can only imagine what they will be in 5 or 10 years time

What I think about mostly now is: I wonder how many of us that cellar tobacco will have to stop smoking for health reasons. This is what has happened to me recently, maybe I’ll start again and I’ll still have a few a year regardless, maybe… I don’t hear anyone talking about this, perhaps it’s rare.

Yeah it’s a great point you make mate. I hope all is okay. I suppose it’s one of those things that although many of us don’t always think like this but tobacco is an asset. As it does have a secondary market value as sealed tobacco.

@@jackryanpipes I saw a post, linking to an article on Pipes Magazine forums that STG is taking over Mac Baren… I hope that tobacco company consolidation’s won’t kill quality in lieu of profits but honestly I feel like I’ve seen that coming for a while now. Meaning: my cellar will likely raise in value. Thanks for your reply, I am grumpy I can’t smoke right now. 😂

For me it was simply a matter of preparing for retirement.
