I still like the first one better though! A Christmas Carol: I actually really enjoyed this one! Liked it better than Polar Express. Monsters vs Aliens: This one was a lot of fun! Guess I found it that boring. Sorry 9 fans. Redline: Never seen it! I haven't seen it Fantastic Mr. Fox: I saw this one, but it's been so long that I don't remember much. It make the astro boy movie more western, imagi change his name from tobio to Toby since they not sound the same, idk the voice acting was not bad also adding a new chareter kora as a sort of love interest. Who voiced her was also anna from frozen, don't know what happend to Freddie highmore. Yea I have the DVD and it is still my favourite movie that I watched so many times that the disk is possibly scratched. Also Toby is the only one with the big eyes and origanl look, sticks out amongst the other chareters. He instead of wearing Speedo type pants he has boxers or shorts.

The hated toward the Cloudy films would come from Animat, who is also an Animation Critic, as he points out how unwatchable the character animation can be with the simplistically unappealing designs along with their over the top animation to try to entertain the audience, only to irritate him so much, he had to take off his glasses in order to continue with the film. Animat is an unlikely critic who has an interesting perspective on animated films. He especially compares the sequel to Norm of the North also with lowbrow humor and tiresome environmental messages.

Thank you for reminding me how awesome 2009 was for film My top 5 is as follows 5. 9 - I love this movie simply from its premise, the post apocalyptic setting, the horror of the robot monsters, as well as the inner conflicts between the group as their ideologies clash. 4. Fantastic Mr. Fox - The film is really witty and funny, from the dialogue to the characters, the stop motion is incredibly enjoyable and I love how they expanded on the story to be more relatable. Also the “cuss” usage is still my favorite stand in for swearing. 3. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - This film is a guilty pleasure, but I love it. It still boggles the mind how they turned a simple picture book into a lengthy plot with characters and conflicts. Just how much they can do with food is impressive enough, but there’s also really funny character moments, humorous dialogue and some sweet scenes too. I also love the energy it has the the exaggerated facial expressions and movements. It definitely leaves a good taste in my mouth (and a sad reminder how much Sony Animation has soured) 2. Up - This is still my favorite Pixar film. It never fails to make me cry, and the message it tells is timeless. I love how easily Pixar was able to mix fantastical elements with real world emotions about loss and grief, and how life itself is an adventure. 1. Coraline - I fell in love with this movie when I saw it in theaters. So much imagination and creativity wrapped in dark fantasy, adventure layered over horror. The stop motion is beautiful, fluid and lends to the fantasy of the other world with its colors and vibrancy, only for it to fall away once it starts becoming more unraveled. Coraline remains one of my favorite animated films of all time.

I stumbled upon Secret of Kells when I was about 8-9 and it still holds a special place in my heart. Hell, my exploration into mythologies besides Greek was spurred on by this movie, and it encouraged me to look at new art styles because of how beautiful the film was. 9 was a movie my Sister(20 years older than me) got for my niece(7 months older) right when It came out, and I was the only one to make It through the movie fully. I adore the work, the horror, the concept in general. And finally, Ponyo was a movie that got me through rough times. I didn’t discover it until around 2013-2014, both when my grandmother passed and when my dad was in the hospital. It was uplifting, cute, had a great artstyle, and overall was a great distraction, though I do have to agree, the romance was kinda eeehhhh.

About 7 years ago, I was subscribing to my first youtube channels. I was a young fandom kid, big into mlp and other animated shows, and i can’t be certain but i think cellspex was one of the first channels I ever subscribed to. To this day it’s the one that stuck out of all of the others. About a week ago I was thinking about animated movies i hadn’t watched yet, and my mind wandered back to your original 2009 ranking list, a video I hadn’t thought about in years. I remembered you called it a golden year for animation, and I took two of your recommendations that weekend. I’m currently forcing everyone I know to watch 9 and Fantastic Mr Fox. In a media landscape where reviews of films are now as likely to be childhood nostalgia as films themselves, nothing means more than a video that can make me take a decade-old recommendation. I’m glad you made this video again, and i’m glad you still do these.

Wow.... Mary and Max... This movie kinda traumatized me as a teen... They showed it at my school(we would choose what activities we would do on the last week of the year and I was in the group that chose to watch a movie). And... My 14 year old self wasn't ready for this movie... I thought we would watch a happy fun stop animation movie... But it made me feel awfully depressed and bad by the end of it instead, and I couldn't even sleep that night because of it...it was pretty dark... It's not thaaaat dark, but still, it kinda was for 14 year old me. I wish I had chose to be in the group that would learn make housemade hand sanitizer that day ='D And even remembering this movie makes me feel bad... But the fault was not on the movie, it was me who was a pretty sensible child and watched it at the wrong time, maybe because a thing or other kinda hit back at home. If I had watched it a couple years later when I was mature enough, it probably would be one of my favorites of the year, since I like depressing stories and such.

Fun Fact: Summer Wars is sort of a redo "Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!" OVA as it was done by the same dude. The main virus is going to destroy world idea is kept in both versions, but the family dynamic was added to the new movie. Many of the things that happen in OVA have a lasting impact in Digimon Adventure 02 which are... The idea of DNA digivolution with Omnimon, which wasn't mentioned until later, and the 3 main new members actually watched the battle happen. Other characters that watched it happen became one-shot characters in the Christmas episodes where the digidestined traveled around the world to stop the bad guys (not feeling like going in to detail.) And in the recent anime reboot, the 2nd episode is basically the OVA. So that's two times the plot was reused.
