+Silvia Fingerotter Agreed. I want to make a male and female character for the book I am writing to promote gender diversity, but I get so annoyed when people ask, "Ooh! Are they gonna get together!?" because not every female and male characters who are close have to fall in love. My book is actually going to have practically nothing to do with romance. I try to push all of the tension for a romance off and instead have development for characters and world building. I want to show that they are close and become great friends, but I don't want them together.

"How insecure is the heterosexual agenda when you have to imply a romantic relationship between two 9-year-olds?" There's no agenda; it's just the writers falling into the same old formula of "Male Protagonist + Female Protagonist = ROMANCE!" The character's age doesn't matter when it's lazy writing. But yeah, I had the same problem with it. I was pretty neutral towards Penny, but the whole thing was really unnecessary. :/

I loved Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart, because the concept of the story was so fascinating for me. I liked the Gothic Tim-Burton style, mixed with Steam punk and Shakespeare because it was just something else to me and the music was just something else. It's not the style of music I normally listen to, nor like for that matter, but it somehow fit the mood to convince me that I liked the music (I eventually found the soundtrack and listened to it everyday after I first watched the movie). The ending I also found very upsetting, although I won't spoil it for people who want to watch, but I will say like she said, the movie was very Romeo and Juliet style, but more heartbreaking. In my opinion anyway. Overall, it is one of the most memorable films I have ever watched and has scarred my heart permanently, but in a good way 😊

The Nut Job: Not bad, but could have been better Planes: Fire and Rescue: Not interested Henry & Me: Don't care for it Rio 2: Colourful and harmless The Congress: Never saw it, and wouldn't want to Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart: Different (in a good way) Mr. Peabody and Sherman: Cute, innocent fun Penguins of Madagascar: Silly The Book of Life: AMAZING! I LOVE IT! Favourite movie thus far! The Boxtrolls: Okay, I guess (please don't hurt me!) Song of the Sea: Beautiful designs The Tale of Princess Kaguya: Unique animation choice Big Hero 6: Great, funny, and touching (I legitimately teared up at some parts) How to Train Your Dragon 2: A nice improvement from the original The Lego Movie: Hilarious, colourful, and a new modern favourite

@xLullaLunex7 жыл бұрын
TheTheaterPokeball The ending wasn't what people may have wanted it to be and that disappoints them but I think it was what the movie needed. The Corpse Bride means SO MUCH to me and Emily is one of my all time favourite characters so I'm not in ANY WAY against her. She and Tim Burton helped make me who I am and she will forever be one of the most amazing and beautiful characters ever created in existence to me. That being said, She got taken adavantage of just for simply having the dream to be a bride and then got it taken away, BUT she still lived with the beautiful hope that one day she would get her chance and she thought she had it with victor. She and victor clicked instantly. They were almost exactly the same if u really look at them. I think in a relationship, It's rlly beautiful when someone's faults are the others strengths and they help each other where they need help. Victoria was that person for Victor- Not completely similar but he was there for her where she needed him to be and she was there for him where he needed her to be. Emily decided of her own free will that she once had a dream of being a bride but her joy in seeing Victoria getting the dream she once dreamed of having and seeing victor truly be happy when he couldn't have been with her anymore anyways filled her with the internal peace she needed to truly move on and be happy despite the tragic turn her life had taken. ANY other ending would be cheap try hard and take away from the beautiful sacrifice this movie is working up to NOT victors death but Emily's acceptance and how Victor helped her get to that point. So yes she was meant to meet victor and maybe in another time when she was alive they could have been married but the way both of their stories went, victor was there to show Emily how to move on and help her feel the peace she desperately craved and needed and what I think her real dream was after dying.
@xLullaLunex7 жыл бұрын
TheTheaterPokeball YES it was bittersweet and I know people like 100% happy and they think that Victor and Emily would be a perfect couple and I'm not disagreeing that they would work together but even from the very first time he met Victoria he showed her how to play piano a world that her parents had previously told her not to because of the strict Victorian rules they followed as nobles. He has so many beautiful things to show her and with victor she could truly be free and be with someone who loves her something her rich very uptight and self confidence damaging nearly loveless family failed to do for her. I think Victoria needs Victor and Victor needs Victoria. The ONLY other potential ending is Victor dies or Emily gets brought back to life which throws everything he had with victoria away and I think he truly had nearly equal feelings for both of them but Emily was a slight case of wrong place wrong time so comparing them isn't even fair in a way. That would be a cheap and useless ending especially when they worked to show that thought it was arranged he still loved and cared for Victoria deeply in a different way then he cared for Emily. There is absolutely no other way it could have ended other then the way it did and since I was 8 and even rlly like victor and Emily together just as much as Victor and Victoria I have ALWAYS believed that Tim Burton ended it beautifully and if you rlly think about it there is NO way to end it any other possible way without throwing away beautiful and precious character development and plot points that the movie spent over a hour showing us so wonderfully. Victoria is meant to be a parallel of what Emily was before she died and what she still strives to be until she realizes what she truly needs. she is NOT under any circumstances a antagonist regardless of what you personally think about her so a ending that doesn't take her feelings and life into consideration would be meaningless and very badly written. So victor marries Emily and Victoria winds up broke and living on the streets with almost no possibility of marriage and doing whatever job she can just to survive. How is that fair to her? Victor married Victoria and Emily finally finds the mental peace she needed to forgive and move on to a better place EVERYONE WINS Yes it's sad but sad doesn't mean it's a bad ending. Bittersweet endings are some of the most complex and beautifully written and I think to make it any different would be a insult to Tim Burtons beautiful and artistic masterpiece that he's created with corpse bride and with all his movies. Thank you :)
@skeltheshapeshifter26977 жыл бұрын
A really big arc in Emily's character that I really admire in the film is that, well- when you think of it, she's kinda selfish in the first act. Some poor guy ends up marrying her due to a misunderstanding (which he never really consented to), and she immediately whisks him away to her home, which is almost akin to a kidnapping. This is especially unfair to not only Victor, who, again, had no real consent in this, but it's also unfair to Victoria. Not only did Victoria and Victor both actually kind of got along, but Victoria kinda needed this marriage in order to not go broke. Plus, they're more or less a good match. Anyway- back to Emily here. She was so obsessed with finding her true love and having her dream come true- getting married to an awesome guy (especially as her last attempt ended with a stab in the back- or, I guess a blunt object to the head? Eh, anyway) she was kind of blinded by it all. And while I think the majority consensus was that Emily and Victor would work in different circumstances, they did kind of just get thrown into it. Though the important part is that after their fight, what Victor had said broke Emily out of her lovey-dovey trance. They're married- it's not just _her_ wants, _her_ dreams, _her_ wellbeing, it's *_theirs_*. Once she realizes the reality of it, (that technically I guess they don't really love each other yet, they have the potential to, though.) she becomes really sad, wondering if maybe the whole thing is a mistake. But the important thing is that it takes off her rose-colored glasses. She's not just blind to everything around her, and it makes their romance much more real, and she comes to learn about and care for Victor on a more personal level, and not just, "you put a ring on my finger". And cue, last scene, at the "official" wedding of Emily and Victor. There's two big moments of her heroism and sacrifice here, and yet I don't know which one to put first. Okay, I've picked one. Emily realizes that she loves Victor, and this isn't something you do to someone you love. Victor is a little emotionally unstable right now (which is evident by his rushing into the wedding with Emily, which I could say a lot about, but I am not going to), and it would be cruel to pull him into this eternal wedding with her. She also sees Victoria, and sees how much Victoria also likes Victor. Victoria was genuinely interested in Victor and she really did like him. And Emily realizes that not only is she stealing her very own dream from Victoria, but she's also killing Victor. Victor's still young, and has the world as his oyster, and Emily's cutting it short because of her own selfish dream. A dream that she already had her chance at, and lost. She realizes she can't do this to the both of them, and in a way, she did kind of get her dream. She was loved, at the end, and that helps her find peace. Cue butterflies, and heartbreak. A total flip of the start of the movie.

Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart honestly saved my life in 2016. After a long long period of depression and absolute apathy regarding my life, JATCCH was the first thing to make me feel something in months... I’m so glad that you talked about it here. It really needs more recognition. Just one small correction, the concept album was actually paired with an entire novel, not a picture book. I highly recommend reading the novel. It’s very different from the movie, but it’s still phenomenal and I actually liked it better. It’s a LOT more adult asnit follows Jack throughout his own adulthood, not just for when he’s a child/teenager (Jack can handle a lot more than kissing. He also has a hamster name cunnilingus bc the prostitutes that occasionally stop by like to teach him how to say dirty words without ever telling him what they mean and the poor lad thought it was like a fucking Roman soldier). Honestly though I love the album, the book, and the movie so so much. And I’m so happy that you talked about it.

Please give AniMat paid Patreon requests that are to review Everyone's Hero (which AniMat would give a 4/10 to the story, 8/10 to the animation, 6/10 to the characters and 16/28 points overall aka a 6/10) and Henry & Me (which AniMat might give a 3/10 to the story, 8/10 to the animation, 3/10 to the story and 12/28 points aka a 5/10 at its very lowest).

I feel like people need to know about this. Disney made a sequel to The Wizard of Oz (not Oz the Great and Powerful, that is a prequel and it's not half bad). It's a fantasy mystery called Return to Oz and it's fucking horror.

Omg I'll admit that Jack and the Cuckoo Clock Heart has it's flaws, but I loved this movie!! In all of it's zainy weirdness. And I loved the ending. I've gotten tired of straightforward, in your face, easy solution endings. And this one didn't do that. I have a soft spot for movies that have a conflict that has no answer, go through a lesson, but in the end the conflict that's impossible to solve still is impossible. It shows the movie stuck with it's set rules for a world, that there wasn't some last minute magical solution. Like in A Monster Calls. No spoilers, but the movie had a problem, the character went through a lesson, but in the end there wasn't a magic solution. After I saw the Jack movie I bought the book and boy! Was I shocked that the book was MUCH more mature than the movie. But after comparing the two I was pleasantly surprised that the movie kept a lot of the rules and darker themes, but adapted it in a way that would be more suited with kids WITHOUT DUMBING IT DOWN. Like seriously, they kept the part where Jack poked out the bad guy's eye. Props. Though they did take out the mentions of sex understandably hah. Also, in the book the two ladies who visit Jack have a slightly more drawn out explantion. Turns out they're prostitutes and visit the old women to give birth and put the babys up for adoption. So they obvivously cut that info out. BUT THAT ANSWERED SO MANY QUESTIONS FOR THE MOVIE. Like why they were preggo in the beginning, why the one said she couldn't fancy love in her line of work. Like praises for the makers to hint at the more adult themes of the book in a subtle way. That's the main thing I like about this movie. It doesn't take kids as idiots. Which is what I hate about a lot of todays animation.

The Nut Job is my least favorite animated movie ever. I HATE IT. Nothing about it is memorable other than the fact that it uses "When can I see you again" from Wreck it Ralph! It's bland in every way! I can not remember ANYTHING about it! The characters are unlikable and selfish. The animation looks bad compared to the other CG movies that came out that year. Also can we talk about the title?
