I personally feel bad for non-native speakers having to go through this test. The *listening* section is more of a memory test since you can't hear the conversation more than once because in the real-life you can always ask someone to repeat anything you might have missed. The *speaking* test also relies on you having to dream up stories to talk about. The test *shouldn't* be checking creativity or memory, it's supposed to be verifying your language skills. It's a *revenue generator business* for the government of BC, not an English proficiency test.

Very true.. speaking is more like a literary exercise rather than an actual realistic impromptu conversation

I agree, in my opinion it should be an in person conversation and maybe reading out loud, e.g. an article

in my opinion, there is no training that can help or increase your band score there is no course or training which dramatically change your score it is English man which u learn in your past in your schooling in your college in your childhood nothing is going to work for you but the only thing which helps u just a little is to practise practise and practise ...wish u hope and good luck I am also struggling for CEPIP ... this video is amazing at least we are getting the idea like how the exam look like good work keep up the good work.

Can we make some suggestions for task 6? For example. If I choose to talk with the coach and give the reason why "my son" cannot play. Would it be a good idea to give suggestions like " maybe we can talk to the teacher to solve the issue so my son can keep practicing"?

I have a question regarding task 7. Should you ban soda and snacks at school? Apart from health reasons, what else is there? You suggest 3 reasons are required. Can you suggest any other two?

Hi 911, this is James calling,I am driving on a country road and in front of me i am seeing a very unusual thing going on,I can see a blue car and in the back there were two kids,one of i believe is a girl waiving her hand towards the couple sitting on a sofa,the sofa is tied with the car with a long rope on both sides,and is attached with wheels which is being dragged by the car.The couple seems enjoying their ride completely ignoring the risk that they are in due to this weird situation.May be the rope can torn out or may loosen up and ending up both the couple outside gets severely hurt . I want you guys to come in stern action by stopping them immediately before any accident happens, although i tried to convince the couple but they ignored me.

Thank you so much for sharing this video! BTW, the last task can be really difficult for non-native speakers right ...
@CELPIPOfficial6 жыл бұрын
No problem Wendy! Our Instructional Products team love teaching and we're happy to share and make videos like this! All tasks and questions are designed to use English you would use living, working, and studying in Canada. Our best advice is to prepare and practice English as much as you can. The last task doesn't have to be really difficult for non-native speakers. We have study materials such as practice tests with sample responses (secure.celpiptest.ca/RegWebApp/#/product-shopping), and the CELPIP Preparation Program available at select test centres (www.celpip.ca/celpip-preparation-program). If you have any further questions or concerns, our Customer Service Representatives would be happy to help. You can reach us at 1-800-958-5186 or at info@celpip.ca.

For the task 7 "Do you think..." question, should we always choose either "a yes or a no" or I can also say "My option is yes and no..." and continue explaining the reason...

Thank you for the video. I have a question. Which is worst in the speaking test? Give a conclusion but stop talking some seconds before the end of the time or to speak during the time but do not give a conclusion?
@CELPIPOfficial6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! In general raters listen for Task fulfillment and part of that is speaking for the full length of time. So it is important to speak for the full length. It may not be a huge problem if you have already given a full response and just happen to be adding extra information as the timer runs out. If you have already given plenty of reasons, then this might not be a big issue, but it can lose points as it were. Not giving a conclusion is a problem also of course, but it does still depend on context as to how bad it is. If you give three reasons for your opinion and the response seems logical and clear, then not having a final summary may not be so bad. But if it seems like you simply haven't finished saying what they were leading up to, then this could hurt your score in the same way as being cut off would. Generally it seems that 2-4 logical points should be given to support what ever you are saying. If you do this and stop before the timer then that will probably seem better than being cut off mid sentence.

Hello , you mentioned there could be 3-5 speaking raters . How is score for a task rated. For instance for task 5, if score is [Rater 1 = 10, Rater 2 = 11 and Rater 3 = 9] is the final score going to be average of 10,11,9 which is 10 or the highest score 11

Hi there, I do not know if my comment would make difference. I mean if this video is the right standard for the speaking part of CELPIP, I should've get at least 7 in my previous 3 tests last year, which I only got 6. Is it possible to remark back to a year ago, I know that sounds crazy, so nvm, just to say, this is definitely not the same standard marking scheme as the last year tests I had taken. I want to advocate for the justice of my score, but there is no way and now it's 2018, so I mean everyone may just let it go, but I still feel unconvinced about the speaking socres I got last year. I would more than happy to provide my registration number to let you check how validating my words are presented here. Best Regards, Perry
