Thank you guys for this amazing support for our test preparation. Really appreciate it and find it very helpful. I just wanted to share one thing that helped me for preparation for the giving advice part. Since you know that you will be talking to someone directly, you can come up with your generic response template, which can contain, say, 30% of your response, and would fit any possible question. For instance, "Hi Mark, it is very good to hear from you. Thank you for reaching out to me about you concern/issue." It sounds like (refer to the prompt). Few things come to my mind. Sug. 1, Sug, 2, Sug, 3. Conclusion: So, if I were you, make a summary ... I really hope this works out for you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me again if you have any other questions or thoughts." I can hardly imagine any question that this template wouldn't work for. It will save you time and also increase your confidence and probably reduce interjections, because you already know how you'll begin your response. I hope this tip helps.

From the test requirements I can make a conclusion that It is not a 100% English test. To get score 10-12 you need high-ish IQ (Simply because you have to think fast and with high quality of content). I would say this test is 60% English and 40% IQ test. Even actual Canadians can't get 10-12 without special preparations.

The timer gives me goosebumps and 30 seconds are really short time to prepare. Due to the nervousness, i started stammering and getting breathing problems. How to avoid getting distracted by so many other participants who would start their speaking test at the time? Shouldn't CELPIP do something about this? Do they provide noise cancelling headphones?
@CELPIPOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Hello Rishabh, kindly note that test takers are able to progress through the test at their own pace which may result in test takers responding to different components of the test at the same time. The noise from other test takers submitting their responses is a standard test room condition. We try to minimize the noise levels by providing noise-cancelling headphones, and dividing all test taker work stations. You may also request for ear plugs to the test invigilators to lessen the noise further.

it makes me feel very unfortunate to see that people in the examples have gotten such thought provoking question to speak about. On my own test I had questions such as should we wait for our friend after class or tell him to take the bus and tell your niece what to do with a found wallet. I found it very difficult to talk about these topics for the required amount of time. Especially giving advice on what to do with the lost and found wallet to my niece. Apart from telling her that we will turn it in to the police station I found myself having to start asking her about her school, how she is doing in her classes and if she wants to go for ice cream as a reward for her good deed and I still had like 30 seconds left. I could not hold back from commenting that its very difficult to talk about such a simple subject for 90 seconds during my actual test and then let the remainder of my time about 15 seconds just run out without saying anything else. Mind you I am a native English speaker, I have graduated high school and completed a lot of business courses at University all in English. I am fairly certain that on the basis of my inadequate response to my given questions I will not be scoring a 7 which is what I need and will have to retake this test. Its really frustrating to potentially score lower than someone who is hard to understand without reading their transcript only because they had more amount of things to say about their topic even if they used to word um about 50 times in 90 seconds. It seems the test is favoring quantity over quality of what is being said.

Hello I wanted to ask is it ok to give 2 advice in task 1 As you recommend at least 3 advice but When I speak, after 2 advice, there's always only few seconds left so I need to end the task and if I try to add another advice, it will stop abruptly
@CELPIPOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shreya. Two pieces of advice will be enough for Speaking Task 1 as long as you have enough examples and details for each main point that fully answer the question, and effectively cover 90 seconds of speaking time as required on the test. (Most people find it easier to include three pieces of advice in their answer to fill the entire speaking time, but this is not a firm requirement). Thanks for your question!

Does anybody know if when the test transitions from prep time to recording time we will have a sound alert or something to catch our attention and let us know that the test moved to "recording"?
@CELPIPOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lais, during your Speaking Test, there will be a countdown timer clock on your screen that informs you how much time you have left to plan your answer. As soon as the timer reaches zero, you will hear an automated voice say, "Start speaking now." Immediately after this verbal cue, you will start speaking aloud. The microphone attached to your headset will record your voice, and raters will listen to the recording later to assess your score. (As you record, you will see a rectangular box on the screen with a blue bar that moves from the left to the right of the box. The blue bar is the timer; once it reaches the end of the box, the computer will automatically stop recording your answer. Keep an eye on this blue bar so you know when to finish your answer).
