Gutted, yet proud of the effort and performance for the most part. There is evidence over the last 4 games for me enough to see something is building and it is worth backing to see where we can get to. I was seeing nothing, and Clement and the team deserved stick. Now we are getting more effort and better play, so they earned and deserve our full support and backing. We pushed Celtic to their limit and almost had them today. Keep believing and we will get there. We have young guys like Igamane who with more experience and sharper decision making will become a right good striker for us. We have Danilo building back well to what he can be. If Ridvan can stay fit now, he can be good for us. Jefte had a poor day but there is a player in him. He just needs to concentrate and make better decisions in defense. Diomande was strong second half, Raskin will continue to improve, there is lots to be positive about. Barron is another. My hope is to finish this seasonal strong s we can, then build a proper league push next season. If by some miracle we claw our way back then all the better. We must take the good bits from today and keep it going. Hagi and Cerny did well and I have no doubt Bajrami is a top player, who has had a wee off spell. We do need rid of Dessers, Dowell, Lawrence and Matondo and maybe get another big CB in and an experienced CM and LW, Striker and we are golden.

For me a Celtic supporter it was a horrible game to watch, a combination of Rangers set up & our poor 1st half was typical of how we’ve been in last 4 weeks, giving out chances, poor press, too slow BUT we are still unbeaten and our form will return. Rangers are better but real supporters know they had to. Boxing Day onwards you have 5 league games , 4 away plus Celtic at Ibrox that run will determine if you have turned a corner or go back. Great result but we had to really work for it. Must admit I have a respect for CJ & his honest content.

Something that became apparent was that Celtic's bench offered more and whilst we seem to have our Starting 11 sorted, our Bench is still too weak. Not having an actual left wing hurts but then to not have a suitable replacement for Bajrami is just mind boggling. As soon as we dropped dowell in for Cerny we lost all coordination down that side and Tav was faced with 2 or 3 on 1, whilst dowell was playing catch up. 1 CB injury and we're playing our backup RB as a CB... Our last transfer window cleared the dross out and brought in some fresh young talent. Let's see what Phil delivers us in January to really bring this squad together and get some options and diversity into the side.

There is a huge difference in the game today and the available money to spend. Fans are proud of the team for pushing Celtic all the way, a Cektic team assembled by a lot more money than we have and yet we pushed them all the way. We all hate losing, but there is a way to lose and it's by going down swinging which we did. We have a manager building a team with buttons, compared to what Walter got and he is getting closer. The mythical gap is not as big as it is made out to be. Over the last 4 games we are seeing a team and most fans coming together, as the effort and energy is better and there is potential building. We must be patient. We will get back on top, but gone are the days where we threw money we didn't really have at it. Those were great days, but they cost us all im the end, but hopefully in time we can have sustained success. Show some faith and encouragement and we might just get there quicker. @cutekanjii listen to me for a second. You’ve pretty much summed up everything that’s wrong with your support (In my humble opinion) Yes you should expect your team to put it up to their rivals, yes you should expect your team to play for the tradition of the jersey etc. But the bold fact is a simple as this, Celtic are a better team. They have been for a long time. Sometimes you just have to accept that you’re second best. You can quote and refer to the ghosts of old and days gone by, but what it boils down to is you were not good enough and that’s just the way it is (for now) suggesting you’re not a Motherwell or St Johnstone is disrespectful to them, and arrogant on your behalf. The genuine sensible support know what this was, perhaps the starting of the turning of a corner and yes a heartbreaking loss. It’s how you react that defines you and we’ll soon see. Take a humble tablet and accept that football is cyclical. It’s currently Celtics time. It won’t last forever. But don’t expect me or any other Celtic fan to not enjoy it.

Was a fantastic game. Classic 'best derby in the world'. But I have to disagree CJ, when you say penalty shootout is a 'lottery', 'based on luck'.. Might as well say that about the whole game! Taking penalties is part of football. It takes skill. No excuses about luck or lottery. I'd actually prefer a cup final to have no extra time, just standard 90 mins, then if a draw, straight into penalty shootout!! That would give both teams the incentive to win the game within 90 minutes. Without the dreaded 'penalty shootout'. Just my thoughts lol. Anyway, I was happy, put a bet on for 3-3 😎

I'm a Celtic fan and we've had a clear dip in form since the 6-0 win against Aberdeen. If that's the best Rangers got then there is still a big gulf between the 2 teams. Was really close today but was a team finding their form vs a team off form and the ones finding the form still couldn't do it.
@paula4950Ай бұрын
Agreed!! Celtic gave them plenty of chances
@GlashomeАй бұрын
I think Rangers also had a bit of dip today as well as they had played better and made far fewer mistakes in the couple of weeks prior to today - especially down the left and up front where they had finally shown up a bit since Igamane and Danilo started playing together. Today was really exciting but quality wise wasn't a great match for large spells i thought (neither team could string two passes together in extra time which even by extra time standards was dreadful) and the goals mostly came from errors or poor defending from both teams... passing to the oppostion, weak defending, bad decisions, awful marking etc. Rangers' players definitely showed a lot more fight than in the last couple of OF games though which is half the battle. Not dreading the January game any more which is a plus.

This was a Celtic team pushed to its limits. Who played well in parts but so did we. You have spent way more than us and should be concerned that the gap in quality is not as large as it is made out to be. You were taken to penalties. Congratulations on your win, but something is building under Clement.

Heartbreaking to lose it in that manner. A genuine gut punch. I'd say that's the best we've played against them in a while, and we let the win slip through our fingers - but equally, there was still a lot wrong with the team/performance that was so nearly covered up by a strong tactical performance by Clement and some old-fashioned graft from the players. So many of the issues that we have were still there. Decision-making was consistently awful in attack. Spot on about Balogun not playing Igamane through being as bad as Bajrami twice taking the wrong option including the 4 v 1. Every substitution made us worse showing the lack of quality across the squad - Igamane was shattered but again when he was eventually replaced, we got to see Dessers - it's been the same all season when we've been shouting for Bajrami at 10 or Dessers to be out of the team - the options just aren't there. Agree that Hagi was the issue rather than Jefte - I think Jefte being booked already and making a grab at Kuhn might've swung it but would have preferred Ridvan coming on for Hagi at that stage. Ridvan thought he was playing a different game to everyone else at that point - he was trying to nip in and win the ball ahead of his opponent but was selling himself every time and at that stage there was no cover as everyone was knackered. The criticism of Dessers for not taking a penalty is overblown. Not all strikers take penalties. He is an awful striker of the ball - never gets a good connection - the exact opposite of Butland who kicks through the ball cleanly. Where you can criticise him was his general performance after coming on as a sub. Absolute waste of a jersey. You could've brought on Liam Kelly up front and he would've offered more than Dessers did. Dowell will get lumped in with that, but he did his job of just shoring up the midfield and making us more solid while admittedly offering nothing else, but Dessers had an actual negative impact on the team.

@neilmckechnie6638Ай бұрын
CJ, you are wrong about the penalty being a 'mistake'. VAR cannot make a mistake because it is dependent on multiple digital camera angles, including slow-motion, which clearly showed that it was a penalty. It is not a subjective decision. When Beaton blew for a foul on Cerny, VAR had plenty of time to review the incident, as that is their job and should have told Beaton that it was a penalty. No reason to refer Beaton to the monitor as VAR knew that it was a penalty and because the referee had correctly ruled for a foul. Alan Muir and Frank Connor know the VAR protocols yet they disregarded the protocols because it meant that Rangers had a penalty and that this may have meant that Scales was sent off. They both chose to stay silent to help Celtic and hinder Rangers. Its not possible for VAR officials to disregard VAR protocols. In other countries in similar circumstances the game has been replayed because of match official malfeasance. Rangers should take this all the way because it is not the first time this has happened and the last time the SFA told Rangers that it would not be allowed to happen again (VAR officials ignoring the protocols to favour Celtic and hamper Rangers) but here we are.
@craigleith100Ай бұрын
Absolutely spot on here the only reason they didn’t tell Beaton is because they know if he sees it for what it is he has to give a penalty SMH that was absolutely criminal that btw 🤬👎🏼💙👍🏼
