Come along with Bonnie and learn how to crochet the Celtic Cable Throw! This highly texturized throw contains 9 different Celtic cable style crochet stitches and will add beauty to any room in your home.
Here are the time marks for the stitches:
3:32 - Low Front Ridge (LFR)
7:00 - Cable Stitch
14:34 - Basketweave
27:10 - Diamond Stitch
38:00 - Knurl Rows
42:55 - Popcorn Stitch (use larger hook for this stitch)
56:28 - Arrow Stitch
1:02:20 - Celtic Weave

I love this pattern and my daughter has requested I make this for her. I am have some difficulty keeping my stitch count at 158 per row. I know one row is suppose to have 157 stitches I cannot find what row that is though. Could anyone help me out? In the mean time I will continue to see if I can locate what row that is.

After finishing this beatiful blanket following Bonnie's pattern, here's my input/feedback: - If you follow Bonnie's instructions, you'll get blanket that measures apx. 45x55 inch (115x140cm for us not from US) . You'll need 8 skeins of this 200g alpaca yarn. - Of course, you can totally adjust the pattern to fit your needs. Formula is: 12x+3 which means starting chain has multiples of 12 plus 3 more. You will lose one forever immediately in the second row (that one is turning chain), and the remaining two are first and last stich which are often only SC or DC. - The patterns either take 3 or 4 STs to make, hence the multiples of 12. Exception is the last patten, woven, which is used for border - to make that one you'll need even number of stitches and you'll need both sides of the blanket to match/be identical. That's the tricky part but follow Bonnie's tips and try to do the first row of border in one go so you can memorize where you've put the stitches and then repeat it on the other side. If you are adjusting the pattern, don't worry, you don't need to have the same number of STs as she did have - The pattern will tell you if you go somewhere wrong (cause of repetition /geometry), don't ignore it. - Some stitches take a little bit of time to understand and do them right, but if you think you can't do it, just adjust the pattern and replace it with something else. - Lay your project often! Control, measure, adjust - Count, count, count! Especially in the rows where you don't work patterns and you have all single crochets and slip stitches. Count and control! - Use markers! I can't stress enough how important this is. Use them in every first and last ST of the row you are currently working on. With all of these special patterns, sometimes it's not clear which ST is the first or last one. This way you will always know - It's not a bad idea to write down the pattern as you go. At least maybe the rows that are repeated more often. If you are adjusting, definitely write down the changes you've decided to make. - And finally, you really can adjust this pattern how you want it. I used different yarn, hook size, number of chains in starting chain, I even threw out one popcorn and arrow section because I decided the blanket is going to be too wide with them. I made changes in basket weave ST, and instead of three rows per weave I did two because I liked it better that way. When I started, I didn't see that some pattarns take 4 STs to make and I didn't have the right amount of sts for some of them (popcorn and celtic weave I think) but I adjusted those to start and end mid stitch. Before I even started, I had some plans (to throw popcorn completely out and to downsize celtic weave) but as I was going I changed my mind again. So I made other adjustments. But in the end I really really like how it turned out. I will probably do this pattern again (adjusted, how else xD). When, I don't know. This was for my newborn daughter, maybe one day again when this one becomes a rag and she requests another one. - I used Drops Alaska 100% wool, 32 skeins (50g each). Size 6mm hook, 6,5mm for popcorn. I did 129 chains, but should have been 123 (120+3) or 135 (132+3). Blanket measures 100x135 cm, and is really bulky and warm. Not washing machine friendly. How do you calculate the border when it’s larger than the example in the tutorial? Great info by the way!

@@alexandrachatzikonstantino8944 you don't need to calculate. Put stitches where it works for you. You have multiple patterns and you don't end up with the very logical holes for the stitches, you have to see where it fits to put one in. Try a few and then see if it too wide or too narrow. And try to do the whole first row of border in one go, so you remember where you've put them and opposite sides are identical. Besides that you only need to have even number of sts. Hope this helped. I mean, it's not really all that complicated, some things are tricky but once you get them right you just go whosh trough the blanket xD

I've made everything from scarves to throws to afghans, amigurumi etc. I'm almost confident in increasing a pattern and adding a border and such but haven't crocheted as much in the last year so I'm a little rusty. Your changes to the pattern in the video sounded confusing only because of course we can't see the end result. I’ve been working on this blanket for a few weeks now (unfortunately my free time to crochet is very limited :( ) and I and my family are so impressed with the way this looks! My grandma taught me to crochet when I was around 12 and she passed earlier this year, I picked crochet back up afterwards in an effort to be closer to her and this has been the most amazing getting back into it project. I am working on the Celtic weave section and it is just stunning. Thank you so much for this tutorial ❤️ it reminds me of sitting on the couch with my grandma again as she shows me how to crochet. It’s also really nice because I never learned how to read patterns instead I am much more of a visual learner and this row by row tutorial is the only way I would be able to make this blanket! I can’t wait to start this! I just started crocheting in August and this has been my dream project from the start. I’ve made 4 blankets now and I finally feel confident enough in my skill to do this. My mother in law has been chrocheting for a couple of years and she makes blankets, amigurumi and Mandala's. I was chrocheting a year or so when I started working on this throw. I had only made a simple blanket, some simple scarves and handwarmers. When my mil saw me working on it and I was sharing what kind of stitches there were in the pattern she quickly said... "Oh no! That's way to difficult, I'll just stay with my singles and double stitches!" :D. I think my mil could learn these but she says she is too impatient and too used to what she allready does.

I love the challenging new (to me) stitches this project presents. Having this tutorial as a reference has been a great help.Row 2 of the “knurl” section was not happening no matter how many times I watched and rewatched it. Trying to reverse crochet through only one loop was difficult for my stiff hands.I finally figured out the “anatomy” of the stitch and made it work by 1- turning my work to work right to left, 2-coming in from the back and using the hook to catch the one loop. It made it much easier for me to see what I was doing and had better tension control of my yarn.. Where there is a will there is a way!!!

What about the row after the cable stitch. I cant find where the slip stitch goes. The cable stitch covers the V completely cant figure out where I keep going wrong.

Try rewatching the tutorial at the 6:55 time stamp and see if that helps.At the end of the cable row Bonnie turns the work and shows how to work back the other way.

I have been crocheting blankets for a few years now. I started this hobby while I was recovering from heart surgery and needed something to do to occupy myself that was not physically daunting. Crocheting has become my favorite “me time” and it is exciting for me to learn something new all the time with it. With that being said, when I came across your video and saw all the different stitches…. I immediately fell in love! I cannot wait to start this! Additionally, you are a wonderful teacher. Just listening to you makes me wish there was a group that I could be a part of to sit around and chat and crochet! You are wonderful! Thank you for posting. Just finished this. Completed in less than a month. Loved it! I added in a knurl cable on either end of the woven stitches and left out the tassels, as they are not my thing. Overjoyed with this!

Row 48 is single crochet not slip stitch. It's the row following the knurl/crab stitch. Really beautiful throw. Can't wait to do it. 🌺

Lovely pattern! I was 3/4 of the way done when I realized that my stitch count had reduced by about 20 stitches. Needless to say I need to re-do most of it to figure out where I went wrong. My question is how do you maintain the stitch count if you are skipping the first stitch in row 1 of the LFR? I think that’s where my problem is stemming from. Any other tips are appreciated :) Also, I’m also in Montgomery County, MD. If you ever have in person workshop or meet up I’d love to join and crochet in person!

The same exact thing happened to me. I was at 138 stitches and kept re-counting them in hopes that the count was wrong. I could not believe I dropped this many stitches. I love the videos and decided I would take my time and pay attention and once again, I failed. One edge of the afghan was fine, but the other edge was crooked and went in and out in numerous places. I had frogged so many times that I could not bear to unravel the entire 3/4 blanket so I stopped and crocheted a 5 row camel stitch border and made it into a baby blanket. It actually looks fine and no one can even see the uneven edges anymore. I always put a row of single crochet around the whole blanket before I start the border stitch. In the places that were shorter I crocheted double crochets to bring those in line and then continued with single crochet. It is now officially a baby blanket.
