I'm from South Africa. And believe me your work is outstanding. You speak slow and cleanly even every beginner understand you. And you what you always got something modern, not only granny squares. I'm mean granny squares is old fashion. We as crochers want something beautiful and exciting. And believe me you are the only one that can provide that. You are calm. It's not like you want to catch a train so fast so of this people speak. Some speak so you dont understand a word. Thank you. And plz keep your channel modern and exciting. Thank you

I have done 3 of you throws and although I have had to struggle with some of the new stitches I stayed with it and I love them. I am on row 76 and no matter how many times I have counted it out I am one stitch short. I start with a stitch count of 152. I chain 2, hdc in first 12, 3 fpdc, 18 etc. I end up with 11 left. I marked all my stitches ahead so I didn’t skip any. I did the math and I didn’t come out right either. I can’t figure out what is wrong.
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 8 ай бұрын
Did you work a stitch in the turning chain of rows 74 & 75? When skipping the first (as indicated in the written pattern), you will need to work in each remaining stitch, which includes the turning chain. That way you should maintain stitch count.

Hi Bonnie, I’m sure you’ve heard this before but you are a phenomenal instructor and your designs are just beautiful. I learned to crochet in grade school and since I didn’t have an inspired tutor, I haven’t touched a hook for 60 some years. Now, I’m 70, retired, time on my hands and I discovered YOU!! Now I’m obsessed. I just finished your Aran Hearts to give to my sister and I’m so proud of myself, thanks to you. So now I’m looking around for another project and I’m leaning towards this design with a twist. I have a surplus of the soft yarn (rose blush - long story) and I’m thinking of using that same yarn for the large sections but using an off white yarn (or ?? color) for the narrower sections. I’d like to get your opinion before I buy the other color. What do you think? You can tell me if it won’t work. But if you agree with me, what would be the best color that would go with rose blush. I’m sorry for this novella ( I hope there is no character limit) but I am a fan💕😊😊~ Lorna

Thank you for your sweet encouraging words Lorna! Welcome back to the world of crochet. A LOT has changed in 60 years! If you are looking for ideas on how to crochet any published design, you can usually find it on Ravelry. It is easy to set up a free account with them. Once you do that, you can check out anyone's page. On my page you can click on any of the afghans you are interested in making and even see what other have done concerning different color designs. Many have done just what you are suggesting for these afghans and you can get a look to see if you like what others have done here: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aran-hearts-throw/people If you click on "projects" at the top you can see this for any design. I hope this "novel" helps! Wishing you a wonderful, productive retirement! In His grace, Bonnie Barker

I think the multiple of 12 should work, but you will need to rework the center motif to get it centered once you've added any extra stitches. You should also add rows to widen the panels.

You should be fine by adding multiples of 12 to the existing starting chain. You will have to work out the center motif depending upon how many chains you add. I also recommend adding rows to the fabric panels.

Is there anyway to make bigger? I've made 3 blankets used size K but comes out size of lap blanket rather than an Afghan. I love this pattern ❤ I saw in previous comments multi 3+2 and so on, but I dont know what that means? What should starting chain be if what size of an Afghan?
@ramonagrada668

Love it ♡ Just 2 questions: both the cable and the basketweave are worked in sets of 3, is that right? That goes for all the throw, except for the central motif? Thank again for everything you are doing 😊
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 6 жыл бұрын
The cable stitch is a multiple of 3 + 2, and the basketweave 6 + 2. The diamond (as worked become a multiple of 12 + 2, and yes the motif is quite another bear altogether!

I am so excited to get started. Leftie version fantastic. I am starting with 188 ch (multiple of 12 +2 added to 152 starting row. As you suggested to make wider (for me not wider but to account for dk not aran yarn). Can I add an arrow panel after first cable (and before last cable) to make wider without messing with basketweave/diamond centre panel. Appreciate your input.

Sorry. 152 + multiple of 12
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure I totally understand the question about the Arrow Stitches. These are a multiple of 4 + 2 though. If you are adding to the original starting chain, just add straight multiples of 12 since the starting chain has already been compensated for the turning chain and beginning & ending of the rows.
@yvonnemcrobbie2375
@yvonnemcrobbie2375 4 жыл бұрын
BonnieBayCrochet sorry Bonnie to confuse you. I want to widen the throw so thought adding a panel of your Arrow pattern each side of work would be easier than enlarging the centre panel (already need to work out number of b/w diamonds with my 188 ch!!). I thought that extra repeat on b/w and Diamonds each side would unbalance the centre panel which is so special. Your thoughts. Understand if too hard basket🥴
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 4 жыл бұрын
@@yvonnemcrobbie2375 That may be a nice addition. You can make this work no matter what your stitch count. Divide the total number of stitches per row by four, and whatever the remainder is - divide this number by 2 (or if 3 left, then 1 and 2) and use this number for double crochets at the beginning and end of the rows. If you have to use 1 at the beginning of the row and 2 at the end, it will be fine. No one but you will ever know, plus the perimeter round covers a multitude of uneven row ends!

@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is crocheted from top to bottom for each row. You can add multifaceted 12 to the existing starting chain to add length, but will have recenter the center Diamond motif.

I performed fsc for the row of chains and the next row of sc but it is significantly shorter than what the completed project should become. I used the bigger hook and it slides well in putting the sl st in the sc row but I am wondering rather than using a larger hook maybe I should frog it and make the rows separately. What do you think?
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 6 жыл бұрын
Two things to consider: the total length included the finishing rows which will be added to both ends of the throw; have you checked your gauge?

You can add multiples of 12 to the existing turning chain. You will need to rework some areas, such as the central diamond motif and the edging across the top and bottom. You may also want to consider adding additional rows to widen the panels.

HI Bonnie, I need to make a smaller afghan, in order to obtain my width I need to make about 120 chains to start with and this will be my width as the blanket is supposed to be the other way around. How do I decide the starting number of chains? Do I need to calculate smth? Like dividable by 4/5 + 2/3 or something like this?
@BonnieBayCrochet
@BonnieBayCrochet 6 жыл бұрын
That's kind of a complicated question, especially since this throw is crocheted longwise/lengthwise and not from side to side. Once you know the length you want, use a multiple of 12 plus 1 for your starting chain. You will have to adjust the basketweave diamond center motif as well as the picot shell at the ends.

That's an excellent question Estella! I personally prefer a solid color, but others have experimented with adding multiple colors. I suggest you check out the Ravelry page on this design. If you don't have a free account with them, it is easy to set up. You'll need to do that to view all the 122 examples listed for this design.
