@aztecadog You are right about that. Most parents would be overwhelmed about the raising a special needs kid. But as FunkcBuddha81 says, I agree that the teaching of "independence" is the very much needed - more so than for other kids. Most people get freaked out about the sex with the principal. But this is kinda an ultimate act. When WW2 ended, there are stories from Germany about mothers bringing men into their homes because of the many cities were wrecked and their economy in shambles. I recall a PBS documentary that interviewed a son (grown man in the documentary), and he was very upfront about it. I thought it was quite admirable that his mother did what she can to feed the family and the man to acknowledge the act of love.

Gary Sinise, who played Lt Dan, spoke to veterans about the role. He ended up leading and raising money for veterans charities and voicing army recruitment videos and received the citizens medley from the president for his work with veterans. He has a band called the Lt Dan Band and plays army barracks.
@airborngrmp18 ай бұрын
He doesn't just play barracks, he does (or did anyway) a full USO type tour. They set up a full stage, put on a full set with an opener, he comes and glad hands everyone and is super nice and takes a million pictures - all for free. There's merch and food and stuff for sale, but the show itself is on-base and free entry (or was when I went through, anyway. I understand it was always set up that way - maybe someone here could weigh in if their experience was different). Probably the two best advocates the Troops and veterans have right now (in terms of voice and reach) are Gary Sinise and John Stewart. I never met Stewart, but I did see Sinise and the Lt. Jenny and Forrest were polar opposites when it came to understanding and feeling Love. Jenny was sexually and emotional abused in her childhood, and as a consequence, she didn't know what love was. She had no self-love or self-respect, as her father destroyed it all. She went looking for love, but never found it, except when she was with Forrest. It took her almost her entire (short) life to grow into a self-loving person. Forrest was full of unconditional love. No matter what people did to him, he still loved them and stood by them. He was the perfect man for Jenny. No judging, no blaming, always forgiving, always there for her.

Today, Jenny would likely be diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Considering her childhood and her rather self destructive years out on her own it would seem like a fitting diagnosis. Attachment Theory could also clarify her behavior since she never felt secure in her own home around the people that were supposed to protect and love her so she only knows disordered relationships. The issue that most viewers can't pin down is that it's not Jenny's fault for what happened to her as a child but it is her responsibility to heal herself as an adult otherwise she'll "blood on someone that didn't cut her" such as Forrest. It's hard to understand someone struggling with mental/emotional issues until you've had such people in your life and made a conscious effort to understand them.

For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my KZbin channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. If you have a few minutes sometime and happen to be Interested, here is a link to the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/haOQpHyfg6aBj8k If you do not happen to check it out, then no worries at all! When I saw this pop up in my feed I thought, "Lord this girl is gonna cry her eyes out". And then when you mentioned your dad, I thought "she's going to get dehydrated" haha. I can see how you'd think this is a sad movie, but it's actually a movie about a man who overcame a lot of obstacles, and influenced so many people in a positive way. Forrest was special because he always focused on the positive things in life. Because of his childlike pure heart he could handle any misfortune that came his way. He always stuck to what his mama told him, "you have to do the best you can with what god gave you." On a side note, BubbaGump is an actual restaurant chain that has locations in several different countries and was created because of this movie. Loved the reaction, you're such a sweet young lady! Best wishes to you and yours. 🙂

I saw this movie twice in theater. I bought the soundtrack on CD after the first time. Both times I went to see it, at the end when the feather starts to fly away, nobody got up to leave until the screen went black. It's like we were in awe of what we just watched. It truly was an amazing movie to see in the theater. So many touching scenes, but I think Bubba's death is the saddest for me.

This movie got Tom Hanks his 2nd CONSECUTIVE win for Best Actor (he also won Best Actor the prior year for PHILADELPHIA (1993), which saw Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington co-star (another highly recommended reaction)). He is one of only 5 people to win 2 years in a row for acting and one of 2 to do this in Best Actor (Spencer Tracy was the other).

There is a happy part. Forrest figured out his destiny. He is a father and Jenny was a part of his destiny who gave him a son. While there are sad events in his life, it's a very positive story. At the beginning of the movie, one would not think he would be a daddy. It's the "...box of chocolates" theme playing out like everyone's life and Forrest Jr. is his purpose now.
@queegs738 ай бұрын
Nice reaction. This movie is a good movie about life and one man’s journey through it. There are ups and downs and how Forrest navigated them in his life. He is a truly loyal, sweet, character with a pure heart to help others. The world needs more people like him. This movie is also an American history lesson about important events in our history by decade and how coincidentally Forrest finds himself entangled in them. It’s also a great musical soundtrack by each decade’s most memorable songs too. I’m not sure how well these historical events would resonate with people in other countries. Like how many people would understand the Watergate reference but you did. Finally, in the USA, there actually exists a chain of restaurants called ‘Bubba Gump Shrimp Corporation” named after the movie. It’s a restaurant that serves a variety of different types of foods, but just like in the movie, is also heavy on shrimp items. I’ve visited two of the restaurants in San Francisco and Monterey California and they are so neat. They’re decorated with items from the movie. Including the classic bench from the film in front of the restaurant with a Forrest statue sitting there. You can take pictures with Forrest while you wait to be seated.

Great reaction Kamilla like always, this movie its one of my favourites its such a masterpiece of cinema. Every character moment or performance in this movie is incredible perfection. The story is simple but interesting, funny and heartbreaking at the same time. The movie was based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The author actually went to write the first draft of the flick before it went into production. Forrest was supposed to be a heavier man who sat at 242 pounds and stood at 6-foot-6. In the book, he became a wrestler, went to space and even hung out with an orangutan. And some fun-facts about thi movie, Tom Hanks’ brother did some of that running in the movie Jim Hanks, himself an actor and filmmaker, doubled for his older brother on set, including in numerous sequences featuring Forrest’s high-knee, arm-pumping run. Tom hanks daugther was in this movie in a cameo if you keep an eye out for a surly redheaded girl in the bus scene, when young Forrest can’t find a place to sit (until Jenny invites him to sit next to her). That’s Hanks’ daughter, Elizabeth. While actor Peter Dobson played a not-yet-famous Elvis Presley as a lodger in the Gump household in a brief scene with young Forrest, the voice belongs to none other than actor Kurt Russell. Why? Russell, who was uncredited in the film, had played Presley already in a 1979 biopic directed by John Carpenter titled, appropriately enough, Elvis. And if you are wondering what Gump says in those few moments of radio silence? Well, according to Tom Hanks, the full speech reads: “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. Keep up the good work.

Wow, another cool observation. I had noticed that she had a sweet and sensitive look on her face, but yeah, it's because she is reflecting everything she knows about him, including what Lt. Dan has explained about Forrest's role in his journey. That's actually some really good acting around what I think was just a single line ("Hello, Forrest.")

Another thing I observed about that scene was that Dan fell in love with an Asian woman. Possibly from Vietnam, the same country that took his legs and killed his countrymen. Forrest helped to change his life completely.

You are the first person I have read to put yourself in this woman's place. Most people see the character through her origin. Somehow, many people have not really understood Jenny's behavior, and indeed here I think that a tiny part tried to go beyond the simple appearance of this woman. What empathy, thank you very much, your post moved me.

I really enjoy your reactions. Keep up the good work. You and I got emotional in all the same places. The "funny" thing is that I don't remember it being so sad back in my mid-20s. I remembered it more for the funny moments, pop culture and historic references, and how they worked him into old video footage. Ultimately, it's about love. But in life, especially as we get older, there is also a lot of loss. My father died 18 years ago, and my mother two weeks. As I've said a lot over the years, adulting is dumb. Although I've lost a lot of people I've loved, I'm glad I had them in my life. I'm better having known them.
