When Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya) got his revenge and performed that epic scene, "I want my father back you son of a bitch." His father had passed away from cancer, so when said that piece of dialogue he did so as if he was saying it to the cancer that took his father. That's why it was performed so powerfully.

Fun fact: Lord Farquaad from Shrek was modeled after Prince Humperdink! Also as far as Wesley's pencil mustache it's a nod to the Swashbuckling era of Hollywood and stars like Errol Flynn, which this entire movie is a loving tribute/homage too. This is one of those few and far between perfect movies, that just has such a great blend of comedy, adventure, action and romance; not to mention great script, witty, playful and just down right fun dialog and incredible cast! I highly recommend reacting to The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Willow all being great fun movies I have a feeling you will enjoy since you had so much fun with this movie and were one big smile the entire time!

Andre the Giant was an incredibly nice person. The actress that played Buttercup said that he was really really sweat. She told a story in an interview saying that the cast went horseback riding once and it started to rain. She said that she wasn't dressed for it and was shivering. Andre noticed and gently rested his hand on her head. She said his hand was so big that it made a surprisingly good hat. She said that it kept her warm and made her feel safe.
@gluuuuue
@gluuuuue 2 жыл бұрын
A number of reacters have wondered why Buttercup is such a damsel in distress, particularly during the fire swamp sequence. She probably could do more, and she is ultimately written as a damsel stock character, but she *is* also a commoner who’s spent the majority of her life learning to be just a farm girl, whereas Westley has at least spent several years learning to be a pirate then pirate leader.

One thing few people ever mention: I love how, towards the end, Inigo gives Count Rugen the exact same wounds in the exact same places that he received from him before he kills him. Each cheek, the upper left chest, the upper right arm, and finally the stomach.

It's really brutal in the book. After matching the other wounds, Inigo starts slashing him through the chest in a square pattern, and asks the count, "Can you guess what I'm doing?" This movie is so wholesome. It's just a blast from start to finish. When it came out in 1987, it was the very definition of an instant classic: a movie that you immediately know it will hold on decades later. It did too, The Princess Bride is also super quotable, like Clue (1985) or Forrest Gump or Pulp Fiction (both 1994), it's the kind of movie that even those who haven't watched it would recognise immediately some of the lines because of how iconic and used in other media they are. One of my all time favorite movies and a fun, fun, time.

As others have stated all I could about Princess Bride, I will just say it is the PERFECT movie. Need a family movie? Check. Want adventure? Check. Into Fantasy? Got it. Love story? Absolutely! (go back and listen to the ending song by Mark Knopfler and Willie Deville- Storybook Love , yes it's on YT as well). There is something for everyone. The original book was written by William Goldman for his daughters. Rob Reiner the producer brought him on set. The movie had been attempted several times and failed. Goldman was said to have been brought to tears by this adaptation and gave his blessing on the movie.

Pity you couldn't include Westley's "As you wiiiiiish!!!!!" reveal on the hill, Centane! I mean, you had it clocked, but that's just such a funny moment . . .

Such a wonderful, iconic movie full of great lines and scenes. I absolutely love the "Honest Trailer" for this movie. It may be cheesy and cliche, but everyone loves it. The title "Princess Bride" is because the author asked his 2 girls what his next book should be about. One yelled "A princess!" while the other yelled "A bride!"

I recommend _Moonstruck_ (1987). It is one of those rare things, a non-sappy romantic comedy. It stars Cher and Nicolas Cage with support from Vincent Gardenia, Olympia Dukakis, Danny Aiello, John Mahoney, Anita Gillette, and Feodor Chaliapin Jr. (son of the great Russian basso). Nominated for six Oscars it won three: Best Actress, Cher; Best Supporting Actress, Olympia Dukakis; and Best Original Screenplay, John Patrick Shanley. It is a wonderfully written film with stellar performances all round.

I'm really glad this movie was made when it was, and that it has held up in the years since it was made. If it were made today, they'd have CGI'd the everloving shit out of it, and probably even shoehorned in a musical number for no reason. Maybe they're not perfect, but I like the practical effects.

So many awesome behind-the-scenes things I could mention, but this one is my favorite...concerning the guy who played Inigo. Some time before filming, his father had passed away from cancer. This quote is from the actor: "From the moment I read the script...I said I'm gonna do this part because in my mind if I get this six-fingered guy that means I killed the cancer that killed my dad..."

Mandy Patinkin's father died of cancer before filming the movie. Mandy imagined the 6 fingered man as cancer and in the climatic scene where Inigo says "I want my father back" he drops the accent and says that line in his true voice.

8:13-You should be. Neither one of these men wants to kill the other. They gain a mutual respect for each other's skills pretty quickly. As Wesley said, "I'd sooner destroy a stained glass window than someone of your talents."
