I've been asked what hunting arrows I plan to use for my CenterPoint Amped 415 Crossbow so I though I'd give you the breakdown of the arrows I chose and why. In this video I'll be sharing my thoughts on choosing hunting arrows for tough game, FOC, lighted nocks, how to save your crossbow limbs and more! I hope it helps and you take away a few ideas on how you can select hunting arrows for your crossbow as well. Thanks so much for watching and God bless!

I was using the pile drivers myself with my CP 425 Patriot & my CP 415 Amped, but I have discovered my FOC is much better with a heavier arrow such as the Black Eagle Executioners with a 150 grain tip (Wasp sledgehammer) and lighted nock. It's at around 513 grains and it's a hole puncher and a sledgehammer for Michigan white tail. If people would think of higher kinetic energy verses having more FPS, there would be a lot less cracked limbs!!

I totally agree that heavier arrows are limb savers. I did find out that my FOC with the broadhead was a little too heavy so I am dropping down slightly and switching to Victory arrows because they are spine indexed and will help me to get the tuning done quickly. Sounds like you have a great set up there that has served you well. That is awesome to hear about your faith as well and I really appreciate your encouragement and support! Thank you and may God bless your up coming season and thanks so much for watching!

Penetration isn't an issue for 425 grain set up. I took large doe. I hit high left back strap cut lung and cut liver and came out the rear right quarter. It was a compound 125 grain rage in xbow. Buried in the ground. Dropped dead at 54 yards. No blood trail. That bolt took 2 deer.

I didn't think it would be on deer, but I wanted to go heavier for black bear and use the added weight to help save my limbs. Sounds like you are on fire and you setup seems to be doing the job. Keep it up! Blessings!

I am getting an Arizona crossbolt fletcher as 7 of my 10 remaining crosman bolts are in need. Targets eat fletches. Sometimes on first shot and this target isn't even been shot much. I have large chunk.
@thefrugalsportsman
@thefrugalsportsman 2 жыл бұрын
I hear you. That is so true. As you can see in the video those arrows buried up the fletchings on my foam target which was barely used. Guess we are all in the same boat with targets and so refletching is a good solution. I heard the 18 in 1 targets work well, but haven't tried one yet so I can't say personally. Thanks so much for watching and sharing and God bless!

Oh yeah one more thing. Shake your xbow and when i I did I noticed the stock was shaky and noisy. I shimmed with black sump pipe connection tape. Basically black electrical tape that is about 1.25 inches or so wide. Now it makes little to no noise.
@thefrugalsportsman
@thefrugalsportsman 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great tip, because I did notice how that stock can be noisy. And as we both know it doesn't take much to spook game when they're close! Good stuff and thanks for sharing! Blessings to you my brother!

What about the kinetic energy, ? How much do you loose with the heavier brodheads because that is where you get the knockdown power?
@thefrugalsportsman
@thefrugalsportsman 2 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy how are you doing? I found in my research that anything over 100 foot pounds will kill even the biggest game and shooting this arrow set up 619 grains x 344 fps I get 162 ft pounds which is way overkill. Check out this website. It is great and does all the calculations for kinetic energy and FOC. here is the link: www.goldtip.com/Resources/Calculators/FOC-Calculator.aspx The added weight is what I was after because momentum is the otherside of the equation. momentum with mass increases penetration. Its six of one half dozen of the other. It all works, but the added weight I hope will help save my limbs and that is more important to me. Thanks and I'll Talk to you soon! Blessings!

Does this amped set come with 8.0 or 8.8m? I have one and I'm trying to find some cheaper arrows. A cheap set for sighting in scope, and a durable arrow for deer and bear. Are all 20 inch arrows compatible? What ones are to be avoided??
@thefrugalsportsman
@thefrugalsportsman 2 жыл бұрын
From what I've experience it seems that most crossbow arrows (I believe the CenterPoint are as well) are .348 inches OD or about 8.8mm with a .299 inch ID and weigh 300 grains without a point. The Pile drivers I am using have a smaller ID of about .284 ID. With the smaller ID and the fact that they weigh more I would assume they have a thicker wall thickness. I would choose my broadhead type and weight first and then work to select an arrow. I would want a heavier arrow for a heavier broadhead (stiffer spine to reduce bending). If you are going with a 100 or 125 grain head like most people than a standard arrow I assume would work fine and will kill both deer and bear without issue. I have used Victory arrows in the past and like them very much and they were about $29 for 6 when I bought them at Dick's Sporting goods a few years back. I'd be careful about going cheap on arrows. I personally would want a name brand arrow to fire from my crossbow so I know they are reliable and so that no harm comes to either me or the bow. Before you select anything though I would give CenterPoint a call and just ask what weight and thickness arrow is required by them to make sure it is safe and so you don't void any warranty. If you want to stay with CenterPoint arrows here is a link for a 6 pack from Sportsman's warehouse that might help. www.sportsmans.com/hunting-gear-supplies/archery-gear-equipment-supplies/arrows/centerpoint-crossbow-bolts-6-pack/p/1634854 Thanks so much for watching and have a blessed day!

@@videosYOUenjoy When I purchased my Amped 415 it came with two scopes the standard and the illuminated. I am using the illuminated and have not had an issue with it. Here is a tip I use when I sight in a scope whether on a bow or a rifle. I place a dot of tape or draw a cross on the target. Then using a steady rest like a table I aim at that specific spot and fire. Then without leaving the table I aim the bow or rifle back on that original spot and hold the weapon steady (it helps to have something to stuff on each side to hold it in place). Then while looking through the scope I turn the dials on the top and side of the scope to adjust the crosshairs inside the scope so that they move from the spot I was aiming at to the point of impact. Then I take another shot and I should be dead on or very close. Doing it this was with a rifle saves ammo and with a crossbow time. I hope that helps and thanks for subbing and watching! Take care and I hope you continue to have a great season! Blessings!

I only shoot deer this side of 30 yards. I zero my bolts to hit to center on a 3/4 inch dot at 20 yards.

I agree staying on this side of 30 makes aiming easier and simplifies things. Plus a lot can go wrong the farther out that deer is. Thanks for watching and God bless!

I’m a brand new crossbow owner, and my bolts can’t squeeze under the arrow retention spring. Are my bolts too fat? I’m using the centerpoint amped 415.
@thefrugalsportsman
@thefrugalsportsman Жыл бұрын
That's odd. Are you using the CenterPoint arrows that came with the bow? The arrows should have an outside diameter of .344 inches. This is just over 3/8 of an inch or about 10mm. If the arrows measure around that diameter (most including aluminum arrows do) they should slide right under. If they are that size and fit tight or not at all I would assume there is something wrong with how the bow is set up. You can go to one of my other videos on how I assemble the Amped 415 here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIbacpmvd5V_nMU to see if something might be off. If you still have issues I would contact CenterPoint customer support at 866-726-1122 for help. I think they have a 5 year warranty from the date of purchase. I hope that is a help and you get it taken care of. Thanks so much for watching and may God bless you!

@@thefrugalsportsman I bought mine used from an archery pro shop, the guy at the counter assumed they were 22” bolts whereas the manual said it’s designed to take 20” bolts, so I’m gonna try that now. Thanks for the reply!
@thefrugalsportsman
@thefrugalsportsman Жыл бұрын
PirateR4ptor There is a release on my crossbow that won't allow the bow to fire unless the arrow is all the way back against the string. Your arrow was probably back far enough to lift the release, but may not have been tight against the string. That might have created a semi dry fire situation which broke the string. It might be a good idea to look over your limbs for any signs of cracks or damage just to make sure you are safe when using the bow. I would also double check the arrow sizes to make sure they fit the bow as well. Glad you didn't get hurt. Thanks for watching and God bless!

The ones it comes with are excellent for white tail deer. I right k on the cock fletch so I know what bolt has done what. I have some True bolts off Amazon that are 425. That I made 450 with 125 gr tip buried bolt into target and ruined fletches. Brand new bolt too. This was 25 yards. I am using 125 grain rage with crosman bolts for 425. This side of 30 yards no difference from 400 grain arrows. My 415 goes 380 fps with 400 grain bolt. 425 gr arrow quieter.Havent chroned it yet. Drop that the egro handle thing. Get an ar broom handle and an ambidextrous single point sling and a sling mount that fits where collapseable stock meets xbow receiver. This makes it lighter to hold all day.
