Central Coast Renaissance Festival in San Luis Obispo- KnightFighting Buhurt Medieval Armored Combat

The 37th annual CCRenFaire is located in San Luis Obispo California at Laguna Lake Park. This Renaissance Festival has a lot of attractions but the main event is the armored combat knight fights.

There are many attractions at this renaissance festival but the main event are our knight fights. This event is always on the same hot weekend in July and gets better every year!
Participant fights are never choreographed and fighters will swing weapons and grapple in full contact rounds until one person is standing. These armored combat fights are for entertainment and we perform in front of hundreds of people each show. We fight at 12noon (for one hour) and 3pm (for one hour) on both Saturday and Sunday.
We did mostly 1v1 duels and depending on which side you sat on and who sat across from you is how the match ups were picked. So, there were mostly mixed weapon knight fight rounds that did not have a duels point system (like normal) …also if you dropped your weapon you could keep fighting.
Hay bales as a list arena are definitely a crowd favorite.
The San Luis Obispo Manticores live and practice in SLO county but we were very thankful to have fighters from Reno and Las Vegas drive seven hours to support the event! This is a hot event that wears down the fighters quickly. In between shows we allowed kids from the crowd to “wack a knight” and hold a weapon.
The venue allows fighters to camp overnight and divides a payment between participating fighters.
Medieval combat fighters use a variety of blunted steel weapons like, Halberd, Polearm, Sword and Buckler, Longswords, Falchion, 2h Short Axe, Sword and Shield, Mace, Handaxe, Punch Shield, and more.
Buhurt is an international sport with tournaments every month in various countries around the world.
