I wonder if they could put a perimeter circle around key trees to prevent compaction. If you land in it you would take it back in straight line to outside that perimeter. Wouldn’t be popular at first, but would be effective in the long run to preserve root zone.

It is arbitrary at times, but I do like how it can add a penalty for going over the top poorly on courses with a lot of airspace

Like some courses get shredded by thumbers, grenades, and tomahawks, so I can see where 2m could act as defense in that situation

It should always be enforced at DeLa. If you’re not playing over or under the canopy on a lot of these holes, you’re not playing them the way they were intended to be played. If you take the risk and try to take the course design and the unique challenge of DeLa out of play and just crash through the trees near the hole and don’t come down there is no reason why you should just be able to continue the hole from right next to the basket with no penalty. At DeLa the intended line is measured left to right and up and down. If you wind up in a tree you have not hit the line the hole was designed to force you to make and that should be considered out of bounds just like it would be on any other course.

Innova said no more two meter rule last year because Dave D. doesn’t like the rule and because one of their top pros was the only person I know of to land in a tree in 2021 and he whined and whined about it. He was actually really rude to us and acted like a huge baby and was completely unprofessional. This year Innova is no longer the sponsor and the local club and the TD brought the rule back because it’s an important part of the course.

i miss referring to dela's old holes by their name, instead of their number..."the lady" was not that original hole name..top of the world, i5, the refrigerator, holy roller..every epic course with epic holes should name themselves...i can never follow various layouts there without hole names...havent been there since the nineties

There’s 29 holes that are all par 3’s when you normally play it. They just combined a few holes to make par 4’s for the tournament.
