The “Life of Adam and Eve” is an ancient expansion of the Genesis story after the first man and woman were driven out of Eden. Although the original (likely written in Hebrew) is lost, variations of the text survive in Latin, Greek, Armenian, and Slavonic --- showing its wide popularity. The biblical story of the Fall of the first humans and its effect has intrigued Jews, Christians, and Muslims from Antiquity to the present. Although it was not included in the Bible, the “Life of Adam and Eve” added biographical details and influenced later literary works as diverse as the Quran and Milton’s “Paradise Lost.” John Hamer of Toronto Centre Place will give an overview of the text, consider its provenance and date, and look at its role in literature and theology related to the Adam and Eve story.

In short- you-*passively*, want to be *told* - female; the male( *active) *tells*, while the female - passive is(or wants to be) *told*. Do you want to tell, or*be_told*? What" Norman Conquest , *Of_Whom*? What do you *believe* in relation to the Norman(means Norsemen /viking conquest of where? Which conquest-of whom, by who? The so-called British(the better word might be Celtic) isles have been visited -or*may* have been visited, who_knows how many times since who_knows when. Why do you(in your passivity) want to be *told* about what no-one can possibly know? Do you(in your passivity) want to be *told*about what can only possibly be what someone else(active relative to you)*believes*? Why the passivity? Are you(what is called) "trans"?You appreciate the at the lectur_*Er*(the one doing the lecturing) is active(male) relative to the lectur_*Ed*(to whom he lectures(literally reads to) who is passive(female)relative to the lectur_*Er* ? In babytalk the lecturer(literally reader) is male or active*relative_to* whomsoever he lectures(or reads) , or whoever is the passive recipient of his lecture(assuming the lecturer /trader to be a being of the active, or male sex), which is not invariably the case, moreover bear in mind that many beings of the passive sex are perfectly able - some of them excellent, lectur_*Ers*(readers) Do you want to *know*(active) , or be told* (passive)? There is any amount of information available to whosoever*Actively* wishes to amass information, gossip. hearsay, call-it-what-you-will in relation to what is*called*(to use your exact words)"a Norman Conquest"- the term for the*"winner"* being conqueror. Seemingly there was a dispute as to who was the what-is-called"king"of what is (or was at the time)called(by some) of England and, in the event, it turned out that one claimant turned out to be better at what -is-called fighting than the other. No doubt you have been(as was I) told*by some gossip or parrot of hearsay that one uponce time(as my result/son) would have put it, there was a dispute as to who was king of somewhere calledAngle_land(later England) which was resolved(according to the gossip and hearsay) by what is called killing-those-whom-you-do-not-like for which there are a number of terms, inter alia war, and it is eminently disputable(if irresolvable) whether or not there was any fundamental or essential difference between the parties to the dispute - save as to their opinions. Whatever went under that bridge went under it long before you were born, so it is none of your business, but for some inexplicable reason, you-in your passivity, want to be *told* what someone who cannot possibly*Know* anything about it *B-e-l-i-e-v-e-s* about,or in relation to, that matter. *W-h-y*? - just being girlie and need a jolly good lecturing_to? The desire to be passive(*told*) seems a bit queer(odd, strange, unusual, incongruous, or pick-a-word), but there it is, that is your wish, you being -presumably, impotent or unable to fin out for yourself. Do you want to*Know*(active) or to *B-e-l-i-e-v-e*(passive)? There is no way for you to Know*(means directly immediately personally experience[as directly immediately and personally as pain]) *Any_thing* of the past, but of course that is self-evident, even to an imbecile child, and if you, cannot know, no more can anyone else, unless you subscribe to the view that your masters are privy to that which you suppose yourself to be unable to be privy. I have no way of discovering what you or anyone else opposes.

This is the Zurvanic version of the myth which may actually be influenced by Christianity instead of the other way around. The original Zoroastrian version of the Angra Mainyu is lost to us but was probably less of a Satan figure and more like a Hindu god of darkness.

Even though the author was not "especially sectarian," he was clearly familiar and comfortable with Enochian literature. The apocalyptic characteristics and angelology are very typical of Essene thought. Therefore, I think the evidence suggests fairly strongly that the authors were likely to have been Essenes. Obviously, no Pharisee nor Sadducee would have written such texts.

I would be interested in a lecture on the Norman Conquest, as well as the political situation in England at that time, as I'm aware that the king died childless, but my understanding was that he had a (underage) nephew as his designated heir, so I don't quite understand what made England so particularly unstable, as to have two external wars of succession, including the Norwegian attempted conquest, compared to a typically more internal instability of a regency period.

The Norman conquest has a religious slant as the papacy supported William's claim to the throne and gave moral support to the conquest -and I think there is also a link to the reform of the church which was being spearheaded at the time by pope Gregory VII

All the subtle variations you make guarantees no one will understand what Moses really wrote/meant. For instance, the quoted translation says you will die. The text actually says you die die. It refers to Revelations second death we are to fear. Your translation says the trees were in the "midst" . The text says " the dead centre" In this way we miss the idea that one tree is inside of the other as there is only one dead centre. You are leading people well astray from the truth.

11:42.. Blame game: but the serpent blames no one. Although, if God had questioned the serpent, I imagine the serpent would have blamed God, himself. Or the idea of God, which in the minds of the human species has wreaked havoc and misery in the world and is continuing to do so. In sympathy with the serpent of the Book of Genesis, humankind should attempt to become like Gods-in the sense of knowing our destiny is wholly in our hands and with us having at least the possibility of living forever-not as individuals (as individuals we will die), but as a species (for as a species we could possibly live forever). But that would require us loving ourselves as a species-living for the future of our species-something which every major religion blocks almost from the outset, identifying the human species as somehow irreparably fallen and corrupt. So that the only possibility of happiness is the false hope of some kind of new life and new order after death. For the individual, not the species. Talk about a recipe for humankind ignoring / shirking its responsibility to take care of itself. As a species. Instead it becomes all about: will the believer as an individual go to heaven, as opposed to will the individual live in a way that guarantees, as much as possible, the future of the human species for the eternity of come. Evolution has brought the human species to the point that it could possibly determine its own future. But religion blocks us from thinking that way-and almost considers thinking that way a sin: that we humans, in a sense, could actuality strive to become like the Gods we once invented-ensuring the perpetuation of our species far into the future and even into eternity. Anyway, some conscious, self-aware species out there, similar to ourselves, will probably find ways to make the right decisions in this regard. And imagine all the wonders they will see. And all knowledge and understanding they will gain. It does not appear, however, that the human species, on its current trajectory, is destined to be one of them. And a lot of that is due to the human species capitulation to religion.

It is interesting to compare the Vita story to that in the Quran. In Islam, God created three species with different DNA, Adam from the earth (he wasn't created in the image of God for - Allah, there is nothing like Him-, Jinn from fire, and angels from light. Iblis was a jinn and he refused to bow to Adam and was cast out of heaven. Adam and his mate (the name Eve is never mentioned) were put in a garden and not paradise. They were promised only sustenance and clothing. There is a forbidden tree but there is no serpent. Iblis tells Adam to eat the fruit and that he will become immortal like the angels. Adam takes all the blame and there is no mention of his mate being a bad person. God punished him by taking away his privileges although He forgave him. Iblis asks God to give him time to show Him how corrupt humanity is and he is granted his wish, till the date of judgment. End of story. I always wondered where some of this story came from, and it is obvious it came from the Vita. Thanks for a great lecture.

@@TwistedBlood-cb5wi Although I am an engineer by education and practice, I really enjoy theology. I have read the Quran and find that it has great wisdom and logic. In another podcast (from John Hammer also) it was suggested that when the Nicaean creed became the official faith in Christianity, many sects who believed otherwise were persecuted and fled. One of those were the Ebionites who Hammer believes thought sanctuary in Arabia. They believed that Jesus was a mere prophet. Hammer suggests that Khadija's family (the prophet's wife) were Ebionites and most of the beliefs about Moses and Jesus came from them. You can find information about the Ebionites but can't find anything about Khadija's family beliefs. It is all a matter of faith Afterall.
