i live in chicago. this song will always have a special place in my heart. i remember it was christmas eve , i just started a job at a grocery store in chicago in 2014 working overnights (10pm to 7 am) they failed to tell me that we had christmas eve off. i remember being the only one in the parking garage for my job, 15 minutes early, not a single car or soul around, i texted my boss and asked whats the deal he said its paid time off, enjoy. just as i read that text 3:26 in the song sprang up and i looked up from my phone and knew it was complete silence, a blizzard was happening. i stayed in that parking garage for an hour watching the snow fall and enjoying this song in one ear but hearing complete silence and wind whipping past in the other. anytime this song plays thats the thought i have,

This song is currently helping me move on from a very damaging relationship. It gave me the strength to forgive and move forward. Because "no force alive will bring it back" to the way things were, and truth be told I wouldn't want that anyway. "I don't begin to proclaim that I know" what my future holds, I just know that "I cant continue down this road". It's time to move on. Thank you, Tesseract, for creating this masterpiece.

I just can't get over how "random" this drummer is. Obviously it's not random, it isn't even the most ridiculous or most technical stuff but it's so unpredictable when he accents sometimes.
@jeffreymcclelland21369 жыл бұрын
TheApostleofRock and yet, he always knows where he first put the accents. it fascinates me really. and now after about 239865 plays of this album in its entirety, I can finally play along with it - with the exception of a few spots because i STILL CANT FOLLOW
@thecdlyzyggy9 жыл бұрын
TheApostleofRock In my opinion that randomness is what gives him his own style. As a drummer standing out can make or break a drummer. In his case it definitely makes it.
@gadafi949 жыл бұрын
+TheApostleofRock its called fill and groove right? haha
@iDrumLikeCrazy7 жыл бұрын
As a drummer, I can totally attest to this. Especially the snare, it's so fucking hard to figure out some of his grooves lol
@andymcleod82767 жыл бұрын
This drummer is so unique. A lot of drummers are rather too noisy or too robotic to the rhythm, not straying off it much. This drummer can strip down his drums, not be too noisy yet do subtle and complex beats. It's so clean and technical. And, as this comment shows, very interesting with grooves and fills. It's addictive.

As a musician I have a huge appreciation for amazing harmonies, and these guys have it all, technicality in the Djent genre, beautiful harmonies, dynamic buildup, and my favorite part is no screaming (maybe thats a personal thing)

Djent is not a genre.

Could be Progressive Metal, of course, could be alternative. I find it silly to base a genre around a guitar noise.

blindox Yep Yep, take it from an engineer. That stuff is the work of the man behind the board. It is fantastic though.
@Backdrifter8810 жыл бұрын
I'm also an audio engineer. I know what you are saying but, Ashe wrote the vocals. Who knows though, maybe the engineer suggested the harmonies. Either way, it's been written and it sounds fantastic.
@ProjectONI61610 жыл бұрын
InceptorEyes I've done some audio engineering and from what I can tell, all that's been added is a slight echo and some gain and EQ to fit in with the guitar sound, though I might be wrong.
@0ester10 жыл бұрын
InceptorEyes Just heard them live the other day, with Dan as the vocalist though. He delivers Ashe's perfectly written vocals even better than the author himself. Absolutely incredible. The soundscape even works with him as a solo vocalist :)

Mediocre singer. No one can perform what they record for some reason. The albums are great. But they aren't replicated live. And he uses prerecorded layers for harmonies, mainly the higher ones

I love all Tesseract's music, but Ashe's contributions are unrivaled for shifting ones perspective when the inevitable day of disillusionment dawns for people who dont yet know how it can become - until all seems lost. To me, Dan's powerful vocals are about triumph and vast perception, while Ashe's are what can get you though the dark when it may all seem like the bast times are never to return. Which is an illusion that looks like The End, but is just the end of an era! That is the time to try again to give Altered State a decent listen if it wasn't relatable back when it seemed nothing could ever go wrong. If I'm just reading to much into it....thank fk for that! Definitely powerfully healing music. LOve it forever

I think it's got something to do with the shift in music trends, and mostly to do with the fact that pop, and general chart music is 'easy listening'. I think that less complex music is easier to consume, catchier and most importantly its easier to get a wider audience with 'easy listening'.
@KadeMetalHansen11 жыл бұрын
Its all about appreciation, we appreciate music as an art form, for somebody else, it may not be. To lost of people music is just something to play in your car for background music or to do house chores or party to, its sad because it is a dying art, but its good to see people like us sitting down and really enjoying it for what it is and keeping it alive.
