I knew Plup is going to lose this from the get go but I knew I'd love this match from the get go regardless. I really like both of these players :). (Also I think the commentators might be right that Marth is m2k's strongest character. On the other hand, Plup always gets similar results no matter the character..?) Lol, Plup's great, I'm glad he stuck with it the whole tourney it was awesome and he got no lower than what he gets on his other characters. too much text but, final note: the notorious marth grab size is definitely more destructive in dominating Luigi much more so than just the sharking or edgegaurding. It is especially effective due to Luigi's necessity to stay grounded to be powerful and have access to his relatively-safe options, which also gets accentuated by Marth aerial disjoint and airmobility advantage.

M2K's Marth is the best in the world. It could be be argued that a prime Plup Sheik is better than a prime M2K Sheik. I guess it really depends on what you define as better. In my opinion, I could see M2K winning ONLY using Marth, whereas with M2K's Sheik, he would struggle against floaties. So his Marth is better.

Really admire Plup for sticking to Luigi, but part of me wishes he changed. At winner's semis, you're a contender to win it out. With Sfat in the final, you have a great chance (no disrespect, but he's a non God). M2K may have been laughing along but this game was no joke to him. Can't help but feel Plup might have left a good opportunity behind him. I get it, though -- Plup's been away, out of practice, and wanting to enjoy himself. He clearly got tired as the day went on too. Enjoying playing also gives you a boost. None the less - viva la Plup.

So, to gain height on Luigi's down b it has to be charged (and you have to mash really hard), and you charge it by using down b and having it finish it's animation on the ground. Best to do it in between stocks.

Arthur Houchin Marth is not pikachus worst mu - we've seen no indication of that to be the case in recent years. pikachu has little jank that makes it tougher for Marth being so small and Marth almost always suffers to marthritis to an extent due to being unable to edgeguard pika. I don't think Marth loses the mu but if pika loses its at worst 55-45 lol.

Sheik is also a bad matchup for pikachu from what I hear but what makes Marth V Pikachu bad (imo) for Pika is her extremely short range. Marth can literally almost fit pikachu entirely into one of his hitboxes.

Arthur Houchin sheik seems noticeably worse due to the fact that sheik has the cg and kill confirms off downthrow on pika. Can camp with needles and has solid hitboxes. I think marths need to optimize the matchup more and that it isnt a losing matchup for marth but at the same time I dont think pika loses it badly at all. The main issue is of course what you said that pika should never be able to get in (in theory). Pikachu doesnt struggle as much as luigi and peach when in the air though and is tricky for marth to edgeguard (especially without the risk of getting gimped) i think its just a very weird mu lol.

marth can edgeguard pikachu, but most marths are just bad at it. fsmash/dtilt completely block the upb sweetspot when you teeter on the edge, and it's easily reactable when they have to do both parts of the upb. ppmd edgeguarded axe pretty well in their exhibition at one of the summits. it's very possible that in theory pikachu gets destroyed by marth. marth is typically significantly worse in practice than in theory because he requires lots of precise execution and also needs to consistently win neutral more than some other characters. i think that in practical terms pikachu's worst matchup is definitely either peach or ice climbers.
