*Anybody that says the SA cleanser or BP cream cleanser aren’t working enough:* Make sure you are lathering it on your skin and then letting it sit on the skin for at least 2-3 minutes (brush your teeth while waiting to easily pass the time) and then rinse it off, this helps the Salicylic acid or Benzoyl peroxide to dive deep into the skin barrier and get to work where if your were to just rinse it off right away it wasn’t given enough contact time to do its job. Dr.Dray a board certified dermatologist here on KZbin has mentioned this explanation as a potential reason as to why many people don’t seem to have as good of results as they expected when using wash off bha’s/aha’s. Facial cleansers that contain these ingredients are great for people with sensitive skin that’s also acne prone..as they target the problem with causing the least amount of irritation if any, unlike a topical bha or aha leave on cream,gel,liquid that can cause irritation because of its strength and being left on for the directed time (at least 8hrs).

If you notice, salicylic acid is not the super star acid in the SA cleanser, but Gluconolactone, which is a polyhydroxy acid or PHA. It's very similar to AHAs, except it's more gentle and hydrating. Gluconolactone is 6th in the ingredient list while salicylic acid is 16th, so I suppose that's why this cleanser is more gentle than other cleansers that have 2% salicylic acid.

I have slightly sensitive skin and this 4% BP doesn't irriate my skin! In the past I've used OXY Maximum Strength 5% BP and I would always get some irritation, which made me surprised that I have gotten any irritation from CeraVe's 4% BP. I have been using CeraVe's BP for about 3 weeks and I love it. Though I've used BP for about 5 years now, I've never had any bleaching, I think this is because I use it in the shower. That way it really rinses everything off! Amazing video as always Abbey! I honestly didn't know it had Glycolic acid in it! (I also use Differin gel which I alternate on other nights)

Great vid, however you cant use prescription tretinoin and benzoyl peroxide since it deactivates the tretinoin I dont know about retinol. Dr.dray has a vid on it so I would really differentiate that since it can cause people to lose the effectiveness of their retin-a.
@AbbeyYung
@AbbeyYung 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I’ve seen other dermatologists state otherwise- and also read a research study that concluded degradation of Tretinoin does not always happen with BP. I think the percentages and types of products used plays a role. But I’m curious to hear her thoughts too!

Oh no, I use the SA cleanser about once per week but based on your video I think I've been using it all wrong. Firstly I use differin gel a few nights per week. I also use Good Genes a few nights per week (different nights from Differin of course). Since lactic acid exfoliates the surface, i still incorporate Cerave SA to get deep in the pores. But I use differin gel on my SA night. Idk why, I just thought it would do double duty by going into a squeaky clean pore and working its magic. But my face has felt dry lately. And I'm getting small breakouts here and there. I thought that maybe its bc I might have too many things in rotation but it might be the combo of differin & SA. In the mornings I alternate between drunk elephant c firma serum one day and niacinamide + zinc pca the next. Too much?? And yes, i use bucket loads of sunscreen lol

A little late to comment... the glycolic acid in that cleanser probably works as a humectant :-) Since it's a cleanser, the pH is too high for it to work as an exfoliant. My guess is that it was added to offset the dryness that can happen with a benzoyl peroxide product.

I have very sensitive skin and use the Cerave moisturising cream and hydrating cleanser but would like to know if it would be safe to use as an exfoliator once a week at most twice cause I do suffer from blackheads. Apparently the SA cleanser is one of the more gentle exfoliators and I like that it has hylaronic acid and ceramides which should restore my skin. My skin leans more to the dry side.

@laraagracee
@laraagracee 3 жыл бұрын
@@BrickLayerBoy hey! i usually only get whiteheads, but i occasionally get very little blackheads on my nose. i actually stopped using the cream cleanser and i am now using a new skincare line called 302 recommended by my dermatologist. it’s made of very natural ingredients with no chemicals or anything in it and it is also working very well for my skin. i am also using a LED light called lightstim and it basically gets rid of all the bacteria causing the acne from the inside and also helps inflammation. i found out that i have rosacea so because of that, my skin is always red and i get little tiny whiteheads all over my skin.
@BrickLayerBoy
@BrickLayerBoy 3 жыл бұрын
@@laraagracee thanks for the reply, i am not an expert at this but my basic understanding is that, the oil that gets produced causes pores to get blocked and that leads to whiteheads, i get 1 or 2 at the time and mostly small and easy to deal with, my Dermatologist recommended me to use Eucerin DermaPure, i wash my face with it when I wake up and before I go to sleep, or just whenever i feel like there is enough oil on my face to be removed, this somehow helped to hold them back and when they appear they are much smaller than usual. The 400ml bottle is getting empty soon so I thought I might try something new that specifically targets oil on the face and that's why I am gonna try CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser this time and see if it works better. Btw that LED LightStim looks interesting, I didn't know such things exist. But I wasn't satisfied with the comments about it on internet, I know it can be different from person to person.
