I’m team Vaseline! I’ve tried all 3 products and Vaseline is always my favorite for the thickness and the simplicity. It never irritates my skin snd stays on well and it’s the cheapest option! I use it at night around my eyes , around my nose(nostrils) and along my chin line and forehead. It keeps my skin so soft and smooth in those areas I’m usually dry

I’ve been slugging with good ole’ Vaseline since my early 20’s (41now), my dermatologist recommended it twice weekly when I started using tretinoin (still am) also twice weekly, after it dried/absorbed, right before I went to sleep. Have never stopped. I started using cerave healing ointment instead upon discovering you during early days of pandemic, and it’s probably been (although hard to choose) the single best advice. I have used the aquaphor too, and although lovely, I prefer cerave prolly because of the ceramides, which you also introduced me to! I live in Puerto Rico now, use it daily. AC is a must at night and I wake up dewy and fresh and hydrated and I love you for it and everything else you do for the world! Muah!

I love both products and find them useful for different reasons. I personally found that CeraVe is great for my face and body, as it is easer to spread, a little less greasy-feeling, absorbs into the skin, and gives you a supple look. It's a great daily ointment. However, over time Aquaphor demonstrated that it performed best for severely dehydrated/impaired skin, especially on my lips. It is so thick and very occlusive. Aquaphor sits on the skin and doesn't absorb fully the way CeraVe does on me, so my lips stay hydrated and soft throughout the day/evening. (I also love Vanicream Ointment for my lips.) CeraVe, on the other hand, worsens my lip condition. I wonder if it's because of the ceramides/HA... my lips are chapped to begin with, and those two ingredients are best used on wet/damp skin or it can dry your skin out even more (I think?). Anyway, definitely love both products and find them equally useful. CeraVe for daily use on everything, but my lips, for supple and dewy skin, and Aquaphor for severely dehydrated/chapped skin if you want to keep that part of your face/body moist and soft throughout the day/evening.

I bought many Cerave products based on your recommendations and I need to apply them more frequently including the ointment. I have an absolute ton of skin care products in my "inventory" including a 2-3 tubs of the Cerave ointment, several tubs of L'Occitane Shea Butter, many bottles of the Cerave pm treatment and tubs of the Cerave moisturizing cream (and also their soaps)... Several bottles of La Roche moisturizer and sunscreen. My old go to used to just be L'Occitane's Almond Skin Oil (love it) before you learned me on skin care -- LOL (you've been expensive girlfriend :) ). I got back on Retin A and Azelaic Acid (Rx from Derm) -- I see her PA and she forced me onto Differin for a couple of years (long story, but, I actually quoted you to the PA regarding she had previously told me I had thin skin from too much Retin A (between 30 and 55 when she would not refill me); now using the differin on my forearms (inventory of a dozen tubes of the stuff)... I am aging and have a lot of spots (and one ended up as squamous cell carcinoma recently). I need to reduce spots so I don't have so many to watch for skin cancer (shock face). Hoping that 5 year break in Retin A can be corrected :(!!! I grew up in the desert in NV. Last 20 years in the Pacific Northwest (so, not nearly the sun as I also spent a couple of decades in CA).

So when docs disagree with each other, it’s confusing to me, the patient. This happens in every field of medicine. I’m speaking from personal experience. What is a person to do? I’m currently using Vanicream on everything but my face. I mix it with a drop or two of organic rose 🌹 hip seed oil, and a dab of organic Shea butter and those extra things adds more oomph to my skin care routine. Incredibly at age 65 I finally have soft feet legs and arms. Thanks Dr. Dray

🙋🏻♀️Team Cerave! I’ve been slugging this ointment for a week now and I swear it has done wonders in just a few days.

Omg I’ve been waiting for this! I use both for my tattoos. Everyone raves about Aquaphor, and they’re really great but the Cereve ointment let alone their products in general, have always worked better for me. I found that the cereve ointment spread easier as well. Which for tattoo healing is a plus because extra tugging is just uncomfortable. So glad you did this!

Although Cerave healing ointment isn’t ready available in the UK, I have managed to get it from Amazon at moment, so I use Cerave in the summer and Aquaphor in the winter for slugging as Aquaphor is slightly thicker in consistency

I have both, mostly use for lips and under eyes at night. I like Cerave consistency more, but I feel my lips are dryer in the morning after Cerave. I love Aquafor for the results better.

I saw Jaclyn Smith interview years ago and she was slugging then. She said she used Albolene on the face for about 10 minutes before showering once or twice a week. Works for her! She is in her 70’s and has beautiful skin.

The cerave healing ointment helped get rid of my newly developed dermatitis on my eyelid. I also love it for slugging to and as a lip balm. Amazing stuff.

I found the CeraVe healing ointment a bit too light. I prefer the thickness of Aquaphor. Not a big fan of slugging, but ointments make the best lip balms in my opinion.

I know some people are allergic, but for me NOTHING compares to lanolin for holding in water loss in my chronically dry skin. I use it religiously on my lips and will do so forever. Lanolips 101 Ointment is pure heaven.

The CeraVe gave me small comodomes (aka)white heads) tried &tried to use it, but every time i used on my face I broke out.😯 Both work for 'body slugging'

I got the new Eucerin Balm, and quite enjoy it, however, Cerave is your boo, and my boo too! It will always be the O.G. in my opinion. I hope you have a terrific weekend. See ya tomorrow

I wish I knew everything you are explaining in your wonderful videos 40 years ago…. My skin would probably looked much better than what it is now. Thank you!

Hi! I’m using Aquaphor on my hands and body, and Cerave on my face. I find the Aquaphor much for cost effective on larger areas, but agree with you that the Cerave gives a little extra boost to my facial areas. I am 67, and just now discovered both after my lips got dried out during Covid, and was SHOCKED at how much better my eye and mouth area looks! I was afraid of my adult acne returning, but there has been no sign of that in months. In fact, I think I was aggravating my skin before I finally started babying it. Thanks for this video contrasting the two. I think I’m on the right track now.

I did this for two nights now because I felt my face needed some repairing since I wasn't using much skin care and my face looked dull. Didn't know it was called slugging. I am a CeraVe girl by the way.

I much prefer the cereve. It’s changed my skin! The aquaphor breaks me out. I do use lansinoh ointment on my lips though. OB nurse here, that stuff has been a staple for me since I had my own babies!

Team Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I've never tried the CeraVe one, but both Vaseline and Aquaphor are horribly irritating to my skin (redness, swelling, burning). The Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment works and feels exactly the same as those, but doesn't irritate my skin at all. It is a hero product for me! I use it every day, and couldn't live without it. 👌🏻💜✨

Hey Dr Dray! Do you have a video addressing the little blood dots in skin that pop up like beauty marks??
