Good luck Chuck, think Echeverias should definitely be given more recognition in these shows. IMO they are so much more beautiful than cactus! They deserve their place at the shows!

Hello Chuck, Thank you for your valuable advice, I always learn something new from you It’s great that you live in the same climatic area as I do so it’s relevant for my succulents I plan to attend the Cactus and Succulent Show in October and look forward to seeing your Echeveria in person and maybe I’ll be lucky to meet you also Cheers ❤️❤️❤️

I would be great to see Echeverias represented more in your Cactus and Succulent competition this year. I personally love Echeverias more than cacti, but unfortunately Echeverias don’t love me back LOL. It’s a struggle to grow Echeverias here in northeast US where we get harsh winters, humid & hot summers, and lots of rain. I’m still trying to figure out how to care for Echeverias that are 100% grown indoors. Anyways, good luck! I hope a lot of people in your area takes up your cause.

There are a select few Echeverias that are a bit more cold and heat hardy. I’m going to look for that list and link back as soon as I find it....hope it doesn’t take me days but it’s possible for most Echeverias during the winter if you have a greenhouse (even if it’s small) and the colors that they turn in colder months! Off to get the list.

If you want more categories, get active in your club and work your way up to be an officer, there you have more power to change it from within.

Been a fan for a long time now...you're one cool dude! Question.... I'm in Minnesota and although it's August and we still have a couple months of beautiful weather in store for us, I MUST start thinking about how I'm going to 'winter' my succulents! Because of the fridged temperatures I have to bring mine inside or they would surely die. I'm wondering, how do YOU keep your succulents from getting 'leggy' in the winter months? Or do you still get plenty of sun in Australia during the winter months? I know it's temperate enough there to keep your plants outside...but what about ample sun? Do you have any suggestions for those of us not fortunate to have your warmer temps year round? I have grow lights inside, but it wasn't enough to prevent the dreaded 'leggy' syndrome last winter!
@erins.54205 жыл бұрын
Hello, I can offer a few suggestions even though I have mild winters. You have grow lights but are they strong enough? If your plants got leggy then they either were not close enough to the plants or they were not strong enough. What kind of lights do you have? Or what are the details you can give me about the lights and I can let you know if you need something stronger or just need them closer. Also, another possibility is a greenhouse that could work depending where you put it outside and instead of paying the electricity for grow lights a heat pad for plants may be needed depending how cold it gets. However this would be the more unpredictable and if the sun doesn’t show its face for days to weeks that’s an issue.

I need to still pay for my membership, but I'll be trying my best to bring some echeveria! I need to start thinking of potting and presentation, if only the rain would hold off on the weekends!

I don't enter my Echivarias in the shows but it's only fair to represent such a huge category of succulents in a way that other categories are represented.
@Cerriscapades5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I feel that for a genus that I think a lot of people would at least have in their collection, it's getting so little exposure in the shows. It's like a chicken and egg scenario where people probably don't bring it because there's just a few categories for them. And there's only a few categories for them because people tend to bring in cacti, or maybe I'm just imagining it. But I think we need to break the cycle.

If you live in Victoria I beg you to enter your Echeverias! I’m in the states and can’t wait for Chucks videos on the show to come. The more the merrier and cheaper the plants will be due to higher demand. ;)
