When you mentioned at the end that the victory was mostly due to the historical actions of the NX-01 Enterprise and her crew, it reminded me of a quote from Star Trek: Generations that I feel is apt: "Don't let them promote you. It is nice to see this and other channels bringing the Earth-Romulan War more into the spot-light. I doubt by this time there will be a live-action season 5 of Enterprise. But with the apparently relative success of Lower Decks and ongoing of Star Trek Online, many if not most of the original cast could possibly continue this an animated series or video game.

As long as we see some depiction of the Earth-Romulan War, either in an animated miniseries (my personal preference, thanks to the amazing animation on Lower Decks and Prodigy) or a video game, we’ll finally get to see one of the most pivotal events in all of Star Trek, after a nearly 60 year long wait.

@@jonmcinnis1645 - If a Romulan War animated series (anywhere from two to three seasons) had been produced shortly after Enterprise ended, it probably would’ve been amazing, particularly if the cast of the series lent their voice talents to it, and the series had aired on Nickelodeon or even Paramount Network (which came on the air in 2013 or 2014, I think), it would’ve been the network’s flagship original series, and it would be seen by a much bigger audience. Today, it seems highly unlikely that a Romulan War miniseries - animated or live-action - is going to happen, due to the ongoing fan animosity towards the current custodians of Star Trek, Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman.

I honestly have no idea why the Federation completely did away with MACO. A navy can only be do useful without an army or marines supporting it
@Qardo4 жыл бұрын
It is because the Federation is run by people with no military understanding and no logical thinking of the fact that you still need a military to DEFEND the home. If MACO was around during the Four Years War. Klingons would have never invaded Earth. The Breen would have done less damage to Earth (Still would have done damage. Just because the Changelings would have played a major role to undermine the defenses). Really in Beta Canon, it was due to the fact of that war that MACO returned. Long with OMEGA to defend with the Borg threat. Starfleet is not the Federation. Starfleet is a Face of the Federation. Starfleet is supposed to be an exploration arm of the Federation. The Federation wants it to be that way. Though we all know that Starfleet is a Military Organization created for not only exploration but also to be the first and last line of defense of not only Earth but all other worlds within the Federation. Yet the Federation shoots itself in the foot so many times. The moment they feel at peace. They downgrade the military side of Starfleet. Lessen the weapon load-outs of their ships. Then, some alien power comes into contact with a Federation ship and starts blasting. Followed by invading Federation Space. The Federation Government freaks out and has no idea what to do. It is usually vets of Starfleet that have to step in and starting from scratch rebuild everything that was. Soon the ties of war changes and the Federation pushes back. Though have to question. Was it worth the cost to never be prepared?

the issue is ground forces are nearly entirely useless in the star trek universe as control of a worlds orbit is enough of a deterrent to force a worlds surrender and since planetary and city shields and ground defense systems are rare and not used by the UFP there is rarely ever a reason for an invading enemy to ever send ground forces the surface. the macos simply became outdated

Gravity well, tyken's rift, destabilising resonance beam and subspace vortex combining with channeled deconstruction and entropic redistribution. Gone within 45 seconds. 2. Using miracle worker abilities. Drop a gravitic induction platform which will pull the warbird while you eject warp plasma on its trail. So, the warbird will be pulled through warp plasma. T'Pau nails why Vulcan had to back off from mutual defense; their ships were comprimised, as significantly moreso than anybody else's in the coalition- at least in the novels: and the technology in Vulcan ships far exceeded that of Terran ships- in all but the security systems. This enabled the Romulans: renegade Vulcan breakaway colonists frankly, to hijack Vulcan ships and turn them into "zombie/bot ships" to do their bidding- a real hazard.

My problem is, Romulans had warp travel since 4th century of Earth year, thus they are a very ancient power but still managed to lose to a significantly new and weaker power like the Earth. You'll have to actively try just to lose the battle otherwise. Are they that rubbish?
@Qardo4 жыл бұрын
Well, when you are a society that has been isolated from the rest of the Uniserve and no one really to challenge you and no real need to advance technology. You can see they had no reason to advance their technology any further than they already had. Really the fear and the battles with the Federation were the reason for the Star Empire to finally get off their asses and start inventing new technologies. As they would fall behind and end up being a footnote in history. And we all know a good Romulan does not want to be left as a footnote in history. Not even the no-name peon that serves Romulan Ale doesn't even like the idea. Sure they had some scruffles with Klingons for centuries before Humanity even took the stars. Long with spying on their long lost cousins the Vulcan. Yet they still had no reason to advance much. As the Klingon really were more of a pest than a real threat. Vulcans were easy to control and manipulate from afar. To force the Vulcan to spy and pester the Andorians. Trying to go so far as to start a war between the two. The Tellarites were easy to deal with. As they never really wanted to leave home. So there was no issue keeping them bottled. Yet it was humanity that screwed up all their plans. Thus the Federation was born. So Romulans focused all their hatred towards Humanity and figured (kind of correctly). If they focused on destroying humanity. The rest of the Federation would crumble In turn, they would remain the top dogs in the galaxy. Yet we all know how that played out.... As I see it. Romulans, Klingon Empire, and even the Cardassians own it to the Federation to basically be a swift boot the head to come to realize. They are not that tough as they thought they were. Thus jumpstarted a lot of innovation and new technologies. Much like how the Romulans started to invest in trying to control the Borg....with mix results.
@Dseagles144 жыл бұрын
I agree with what your saying, My guess is that even though they had warp travel they had no one else in the quadrant to force them to advance so there technology stagnated but with the arrive of the United Earth not only did Earth get up to speed fast after they discovered Warp travel but they were constantly updating their technology plus I also think the arrogance of the Romulans was also part their downfall in the war
@Timberwolf694 жыл бұрын
@@Qardo That sounds quite sound to me. As a quite well known Vulcan once said (loosely quoted): "You humans managed to do things that took us millenia to accomplish in roughly a century." That's a prospect that doesn't just scare the Vulcans, but many others, too.
@cpasr80654 жыл бұрын
Is there anywhere that mentions Romulans achieved warp travel in the 4th century? I thought they travelled sublight for many years as Vulcans itself achieved it much later (a millennia)> I'm pretty sure there's apocryphal content stating that that's how they travelled (Sublight + Wormhole) to Romulus. And that also states they started expanding only 1 or 2 centuries before the UFP's formation.
@occultatumquaestio52264 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've come across conflicting sources over the legitimacy of this. I've heard of some sources (don't remember which) stating the Romulans don't get warp tech until as late as the 20th century. Due to how continuity breaking and debated this topic is, I just elect to ignore it a go with the most logical answer unless/until it gets explicitly stated otherwise in the future in either a show, movie, or potentially a major game.

I think that was an over simplification on Spock's part but somewhat accurate as about 100 years of time had passed. Looking at Earth's history pre 1900 Battleships and naval fleets would have been completely outclassed in 40 years by 1930's Battleships and fleets.

To the people who know stuff: Why does the Federation never employ combat drones? It seems quite strange to me
@cpasr80654 жыл бұрын
Agreed. (abridged from one of my comments in reddit-) They can create Drones microscopic in size or as big as Starfleet ships. And almost all of that space would go to essential systems, i.e Power, Defense, Weapons & computing. You don't need those wastes of space called rooms & life support used by biological organisms. And the pilot could be an AI coordinating across thousands of ships, millions of times faster than a Biological organism could ever do, that actually thinks of space as 3 dimensional (or 5 dimensional). But what if they turned against us? Ahh, I see you're still afraid of Control re-emerging. If you're that unsure, use remote piloting (you don't need telepathy if you stay a LY behind). You could again have much better co-ordination as well as have pilots that survive every encounters. Then there is sheer numbers. You can't compete with a million individually moving drones when all you have are some 30-50,000 ships in the 24th century (or thousands of drones & tens of ships in the 22nd century). And if all hope is lost, you have thousands of RKMs (think Kinetic Altitude missiles but at a considerable fraction of the speed of light). If one of these newly created RKMs destroyed a warp core or something similar in the enemy's fleet, you'll have wreaked havoc/chaos as well as weakened their shields & defenses.
@haberak33104 жыл бұрын
Well drones are mainly used in land and air based operations, where space combat is more closely comparable to modern naval combat. The thing about that is that to pack enough firepower for practical use, a vessel needs to be large and large vessels don't lend well to remote control. Now if the problem of size and firepower can be solved then drone ships can be very viable
