Certina DS 1 Day Date

Hi Barry, I'm surprised by how much I like this: it has a "traditional" ETA movement that has obviously been well regulated, and I'm assuming that there isn't a plastic escapement in there like with some Powermatic calibres. I know that tastes vary, but I really like this. If this was made by, say, Muhle-Glashutte it would probably cost double the asking price. So here's the question: in a world with Certina in it why on earth would I even consider a Tissot? No wonder these aren't easy to get: they're just too good, and I can see Certina making inroads into the Tissot and cheaper Longines ranges given the opportunity. Hi Bob this does have a proper escapement I'm happy to say, this model punches well above its weight with its classy dial beautiful hands and a true ETA movement. It could be a grand and I'd still say its great but at around 600 its a amazing bargain 👍🏻

Great looking timepiece, thanks for sharing. I haven't had Certina on my radar in a long time. Do you know if the hands are blued or painted?

I'm not a 100% sure but it did look blued as normally when painted you can see waves in the surface

I think this is a great looking watch. Certina has been hindered by their availability in certain markets. I think that is changing

What a super nice design by Certina. What I don't understand is why they are going for a 40mm diameter??? For me, this kind of dressy-styled watch should not be more than 38mm. Also, the missing lume is a bit disappointing. Why not underlume the hands and add lume markers outside of the indices? Wouldn't that be nice? Besides those minor critics, it's a great-looking watch.

I don't mind the 40mm case size but 38mm may of suited it more, you are right. As for adding lume its just not that type of watch

I like Certina - I think the Swatch group really play them down which is a shame because they are a brand with good history.

Ugly day/date cutouts in the dial where they don't belong. Stock movement sinked into an oversized case where it was not designed to fit.

I have to disagree Sir the movement is the is the right size the case you can see this by the location of the day date windows
