Congrats on your purple belt Cesar!! It was great to train with you while you were in town. This was one of the best purple belt demos I've seen. Even a knee to the face wont stop you, just makes you fight harder. All the years you've trained are paying off in skill. Good luck in your training and new school. Hope to see you back! Cole

Robert, it's an armbar. Depending on the situation you could get some good neck pressure, but the leverage is really in the hips at the elbow. You'll notice that I'm on my side for this, as opposed to being more flat (as in a standard armbar); that's important.

Thanks for the kind words Cole! I'm looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the RDA team when I get back to Oregon! - Cesar

I have a question... #t=2m10s At 2 mins at 10 seconds... This armbar -- after he moved your leg for the escape you countered by making a triangle choke, yes? Where does the pressure here come from? Is it an armbar, triangle choke, or a mixture of both?

No requirement for the deep halfguard, but different heel hook setups is prioritized?

Absolutely beautiful!! Weld one

Not sure if you're trolling, but....Why should deep half guard be a requirement? As for the heel hooks, they were my choice. Combinations are required, not specific submissions.
@lostlilkid11 жыл бұрын
I just now saw the same thing at 9 mins and 28 seconds If I'm correct, this is still an armbar?

The V Pass is something I picked up from the work of Luis Gutierrez. I don't know if the DVDs are still in production (I got them several years ago), but you can check onedragon-dot-com and maybe email them... If not, I'll make a video on my channel about it sometime.

No problem. I wasn't offended; I just didn't know if you were serious. I still don't understand "why" you think deep half guard is important. I know basic deep half, and use it sometimes, but it seems like a somewhat arbitrary choice to have as a requirement for purple. To me, it's like saying that every purple should know rubber guard, tornado guard, turtle guard, or the berimbolo game. Either way, not every move that I demonstrated is in this video.

Didn't mean to be disrespectful, I just think that every purplebelt should atleast know the basic fundamention for the deep halfguard.

Agree, very arbitrary and probably only a choice because of it's popularity on the tournament scene.
