So subtle.the gradiations in the greys is very delicate. I would have struggled with not making mud. Amazed you could get the details in the signs in top of that wet paint without wiping the canvas. Remarkable depth giving such a limited spectrum. Bravo as always

Always enjoy watching your videos, Mr. Santos because I learn so much. I see you paint in your sketch book quite often so this brings me to a question: I am wanting to learn to paint but am a little tight on budget to buy canvas. However, I have LOTS of pieces of Fabriano, ARCHES, and Stonehenge paper laying around. Would it be wise to practice painting on gessoed paper instead of regular canvas, or should I first go with canvas? Thanks for your time and keep doing what you do!

Fantastic, it reminds me of my years in Uppsala, freezing my Brazilian butt over there. One question: did you use different mixtures of turpentine and linseed oil throughout the painting? Like, a thin medium for the grey and black, and then an oilier medium for colors?

Another awesome video. How long did it take to paint that? Is it all ala prima?
@ralphhancock74495 жыл бұрын
Nicely done! But I'm a bit conflicted in viewing this. I'm seeing two interest areas: the car, and the clump of grasses. It is hard to distinguish which is context for the other. Being more interested in natural forms than geometric forms, I want to have the grasses as my interest area. However the color tones are subdued, with no color punch standing out, only a mix of value contrasts. What was your take on the image? The rocks and trees also show similar contrast and interest, but are out of the area that one usually expects focal points to be (thirds). Likewise, the vanishing point for the road points to nothing. The concavity of the curving road cradles the grassy clump, so I expect the grasses to be the point of it all.

Seriously... this is beautiful. Good God almighty. The absolute beauty of nature even next to roadway with cars and road signage. I just started painting this year (age 54) and Im not great but I learned a lesson here. The end result of this painting was so magical to look at (artists are magicians instead of a rabbit out of a hat they pull a masterpiece out of thin air) Any Hoo, this painting touched my heart hard. I'm in Georgia and my husband is Colombian so we don't know snow that well either. Any chance you would recreate this larger on canvas?
@toequantumspace5 жыл бұрын
Stefka Dank-Derp Jr hi! I'm 54 too. I started drawing a year and few month ago, and painting less than a year ago. It so much fun isn't it? I wish you good luck and great fun in your endeavors. I visited Georgia once (I live in Poland) and I was completely in love. You have so much beauty in your state. I love Savannah most, I made a trip from Atlanta there. So cool! Paint it all :) Are you on instagram? I'm @tomdraug , I have all my stuff there it's good for growth to get some feedback.

I was in art school one day and teacher told me never used a black out of tube you have to make it out of blue and burnt umber to give the painting rich colors whats your say on that Cesar Santos ? thanks
@raulrubencolunga52845 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't know what he would say, but I highly recommend you checking 'drawmixpaint' youtube channel. He (Mark Carder, the artist who runs the channel) uses a limited palette of ultramarine blue, burnt umber, red (I dont remember which), cadmium yellow and titanium white. He mixes black out of burnt umber + ult blue. He also teaches his own method of painting (all free youtube videos), and you can mix any color in the world (except extremely vivid ones, which are rare to use) with that limited palette
