In this video, we take another outing in the Flysimware Cessna 414 Chancellor, checking out World Update 9 for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS), with a flight from Sicily (LIJC) over to Malta (LMML).
We'll be taking the aircraft up to FL110, tracking over to Malta via the Palermo (PAL) and Gozo (GZO) VOR's. The flight should be a fun one and also a decent opportunity to check out the C414's new soundset!

Enjoying the 414 too. At night time you can see some engine glow through the top air vents on the engine cover. Nice touches by the dev and well It´s not finished so things could get even better. Thank you for another great video.

I’ve been in and out of Punta Rais airport a few times. I was born in Sicily. I’ve done that flight to Malts once or twice in the sim as well. A very interesting area of the world full of great history.

Ah lovely Aerostar, what a beautiful place to grow up! As you say a very interesting, historic area of the world, with a tonne of natural beauty. I think it was FS2002 that put me on to this flight haha. It had a little series of "European Airline Pilot" missions and one of the flights was from Palermo over to Malta I seem to recall (it certainly featured Palermo at any rate). Glad to find a fellow Punta Raisi enthusiast anyway : ) All the best!

Thanks very much Mark - I thought it was a nice little way of technically covering the whole of WU9 haha (and as I say, I really enjoy the route). Yeah, the lighting and indeed the weather makes a huge difference in terms of how the sim looks; clear weather and middle of the day, the sim can look quite washed out and oversaturated, but early-morning / late-afternoon, or adding in a bit of cloud coverage, the sim really comes alive! Glad you enjoyed it; it's nice to be able to just "go for a jolly" every once in a while ; ) Cheers and all the best! : )

Loved this video, particularly the 'music shot' in the middle as it shows just how pretty this little aircraft is - the lines, dents and bumps etc. Great video and loved the production - particularly liked the cockpit shot during the 'music shot' also. Looked very slick and cool. I havent flown this too much of late (havent even flown my BAE 146 at all yet) - been flying the 310 and more recently PMDG 737 (which I love). Can't wait for the airbus by Fenix and the price is also excellent (albeit the last month has cost me, and no doubt many others, a small fortune) - great time to be a simmer right now though. So many good quality products now and each product that releases seems to push the sim and its capablities that bit further. The future is bright :-). Thanks very much James, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, I used to do these sorts of little music montages a lot, but hadn't done one for a while, so I figured "why not" haha. Quite happy with how it came out and as you say, it really shows off what a beautiful piece of work the 414 is. Like you, I've mostly been flying the 310, but I suddenly got an urge to fly the 414 and it seemed like a better fit for the flight at any rate. It certainly has been a busy and expensive month! The Fenix 320 is probably some of the best money I have ever spent on an addon though, so no regrets there! It is an excellent time for flight simulation and it's really nice to see the hobby thriving again. Haha, sleep - what's that? Neither my baby, nor the company I work for has any concept of that! XD Life is good though, can't complain! All the best : ) PS, sorry I just remembered - any luck with the VR setup yet?

Unfortunately not - cant get the VR going on MSFS. I find that the gauges arent very clear and frames tank also. So I kinda gave up lol. I did buy a Tobii 5 though, even though I also have TrackIR. I kinda like to occassionally be able to move my head without anything on my head whether that be a headset or headphones which my trackclip is fixed to. A small feeling of freedom lol.

Awesome trip as always! Palermo looks great, as does the sunset approach into Malta, and the 414 is still my favorite non-bush piston plane in MSFS and probably will remain so for quite some time.

I've been having great fun with the 414. One thing that you might find explains some things: The effect of the cowl flaps is reversed at the moment. The animations and lever positions are correct. But the actual heating/cooling effect of the flaps is the reverse of what it should be. So having the cowls closed is actually what cools the engine right now until the bug is fixed. Other people have mentioned the plane currently forces auto mixture on as well because the sim doesn't handle turbo engines properly.

Best general use guide I've seen yet to the Cessna 414 for simmers. Nice flight to showcase the functionality of the cockpit. I have to say I prefer the 414 to the 310. Milviz have done a fantastic job of the 310, it's beautifully modelled with great features, but it's so close to the real thing which has quite a frantic landing and that is modelled too well for my liking as it's a bit seat of the pants! The 414 floats a bit down the runway on landing with it's broad underwing surface area causing a hefty ground effect, but it's like flying a limmo as opposed to a porsche. Flysimware have done an amazing job constantly improving the 414, a real pleasure to fly.

As an aircraft, I actually prefer the C414 to the C310 also, it's just hard to look past all of the features that MILVIZ have packed the 310 with. I enjoy both options though and they are just about different enough, that one could justify owning both haha. I actually haven't really had the chance to fly the 414 since it came out of beta, but I'm looking forward to doing so when I have the time and will probably cover it with another video. Hello, when I worked for Britannia Airways they had two Cessna Golden Eagles I flew on them on various occasions mainly on AOG recoveries of 737-200/s, just recently I had the Britannia logos produced and the painter was able to extrapolate the real world pictures of the actual aircraft for me on to this model, he did a great job, if I new how I could send you my two Britannia logos , I tell you brought back happy memories for me. I would love to feature a Britannia C414 Charlie! I think we were talking about the Golden Eagles a little while back and I really like the little mini-Britannia livery haha. It could be fun to make a little 2-part series; fly the C414 out somewhere to recover a Britannia A320 or something (I would love to make it a 737-200, but obviously we don't have one of those yet in MSFS). Yeah I'm the same, prefer the aesthetic of the C414 overall, just a shame it doesn't have the same level of functionality as the 310 (although it's still a very nice addon). I believe that is the turbo yeah! Nice little effect - didn't spot it myself at the time, but someone else point it out haha. The engine sounds are indeed a big improvement! Always great to see any dev continuing to work on their product - not just releasing it and then washing their hands of it. All the best! : )

Had this since initial beta release and have loved it since. The 310 does look great too but I already have their Porter. The 414 is a work of art. The pms50 750 garmin can also be used with working title technology so it really adds a lot more depth. The WT part of the 750 is still in beta. With navigraph integration of the pms50 750 and charts, pilot2atc and its chatter, AIG live traffic and some ga planes mixed in.....the immersion is great. There are state saving aspects of the plane as well.

Yeah, really been enjoying the 414 as well PTW. I rarely get the chance to revisit an addon once I have reviewed it, so the fact that I fancied a flight in the Chancellor says a lot I suppose! I have the TDS GTNXi myself, which works equally well in the aircraft and turns it into a very capable platform - just fancied keeping things simple here though. You're right about the state saving I guess - I noticed when I got in the aircraft, that it had kept the same fuel state from my previous flight. Cheers and happy flying! : )

I'm hoping for the same GD, as I really like the 414 as an aircraft and could see myself flying it a lot more, if it was a little bit more competitive with the 310 in the realism department. Who knows, with the aircraft still being in beta, maybe we will get some sort of failure modelling in the future - I doubt we'll get anything quite as detailed as MILVIZ's offering though. Haha, I love that sort of music vibe for these types of vids - it's so typical of every 90's aviation documentary ever produced XD I'd say the Chancellor is certainly up there for me. It's hard to recommend it over the 310, with all of the extra functionality that the 310 includes, but I prefer the look of the airframe and definitely the look / design of the cockpit; it's nice to have the extra speed and performance as well (and the new soundset ins't half bad!) I actually have another idea lined up for a video in the Chancellor haha (no idea when that might happen though). Thanks as always! : )

I alternate between the 414 and 310. Depends on how high and fast I want to fly. Something to note is that the plane has automixture set by default since the sim doesn't yet simulate turbocharged engines with fuel metering. So you really don't have to change the mixture until engine shutdown.

Exactly Jon, I do the same; they each have their own utility and I felt that the 414 was better suited to this flight - and whilst I missed the added level of immersion that the C310 offers, I still very much enjoyed the hop. Those TSIO-540 are ment to keep sea level manifold pressure, up to 20000ft. Mixture should be full rich for climb thus high power settings...For cruise and descend, leaned beyond peak until having cool CHT's. and to be left alone until touchdown, except if Go Around manouver is needed. If so, 'slap all forward' GAS+PROPS+MIX

Hi Alejandro, thanks very much for the info. Yes, a bit of an error there on my part; force of habit, as I’ve never flown anything with a turbocharger haha. Also, many aircraft in MSFS don’t currently model turbocharger behaviour properly (the C414 uses a little bit of a cheat fix), such that one does still have to lean the mixtures, but this is not the case with the C414 in fairness. I’m quite surprised the engines are typically leaned past peak EGT, I didn’t think that was common practice these days, but I’ve no doubt you know more about the 540’s than I do haha! Hi Anthony, I probably wouldn't make a tutorial on that specifically per se, but I may cover the C414 again when it comes out of beta (so we could perhaps look at the autopilot a little more then). As you can see from my video, I'm still not 100% clued up on it myself haha and I think there are still perhaps 1 or 2 bugs to be ironed out as well (so making a tutorial before that happens, would be a little bit redundant). Out of curiosity, how would you say this stacks up overall compared to the MilViz 310? I have that, and really enjoy it, but have been thinking about getting this one too. Just not sure how often I'll use it if it's at a noticeably different level of realism.

The 414 is a great addon but the 310 is an amazing addon. Bearing in mind the 414 is still beta and it will get even better. I find myself doing longer flights in the 414. Its also more stable and easier to hand fly. I think the 414 is the only cabin class piston twin in the sim, so it fills a gap in the hangar.

Hi QB, I think Roland sums it up pretty well; the 414 is a very nice addon, but the 310 is one of the best. I do think they're different enough though, that I will continue to use both of them. What the 414 lacks in fidelity vs the 310, it makes up for in performance and I also prefer the general aesthetic / design (particularly in the cockpit) of the Chancellor. I tend to use the 414 on the longer hops, a bit like we did here. If it's realism you're after though, the 310 simply can't be beat at the moment. I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )

Thanks Whammo, glad you enjoyed it! The "blue line" is the single-engine, best rate of climb speed. Below this speed, you will be on the back of the drag curve and may no longer have enough power (on a single engine) to actually get the aircraft into a climb (and you would therefore have to sacrifice more altitude to get the speed back up again - assuming you have any to sacrifice). In short, you generally don't want to fly below the blue line, except during takeoff and landing. I hope that clarifies things! All the best : )

Hi, i really enjoy your videos and it made me buy this aircraft, i always look out for your reviews before purchasing anything. Is it normal for it to immediately pull hard left during taxi, even at low power settings. With the nose wheel visibly pointing right, the aircraft still scrubs left. I assumed there would be some torque effect but feels too much.

@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hi, yes I found the problem thanks. It was my joystick twist axis causing frequent noise (left rudder). I use rudder pedals so have my joystick twist axis locked. I guess the contacts had built up some deposits from staying stationary all this time. 5 mins working the axis back and forth did the trick to clean it up. All is good now.

The FSW 414 is a cracking effort Steve! I can very rarely find the time to revisit an aircraft once I have reviewed it, so it's a testament to the C414, that when I did have a free moment (for this flight), this is the aircraft I felt like taking up. I equally haven't had the time to watch any of Jimmy's World or Rebuilt Rescue's stuff, but I've seen some of their thumbnails as I pass through KZbin - I'd love to see what they're up to when I get a chance. I remember that when MSFS came out there used to be a menu from where to ask for permission for take-off and landing. Is that no longer a thing in the sim?

Hi Davide, That does still exist in the sim for sure. I've just tended to stop using it as 1) opening up the window all the time kills the immersion a bit I think and 2) it's just not very good haha (it's temperamental, inaccurate and the functionality is much reduced from the likes of FSX /P3D); I'm really hoping Asobo improve the ATC functionality at some point actually. How does one get the updates? To start with, I have no idea where to find the version details of what's in my hanger. Kindly help me sort this out, please.

So, this is one of the most needlessly aggravating things in the world, but here's how you do it: The fastest way to check your version is if you have by any chance saved the original ZIP file download. In that ZIP file will be contained a text document that is the most recent changelog. That will contain the current version. If you don't want to keep the ZIP around, after you run the installer package, you can slip the changelog text file into the folder created in the community folder of MSFS. I believe that the version is also in the title of the dot exe installer if you still have that lying around. However, if that ship has already sailed and those initial files have been deleted, you can still find your version by going to the Windows Start Menu > Settings > Apps and finding the program "Flysimware's Cessna 414AW Chancellor MSFS2020..." and clicking on it. It will then show you, in gray bellow the program title, the Version and the date installed. This is also where you will need to hit the uninstall button to properly uninstall the existing version before installing the updated version, so that there are no problems with their license key being used twice. Once you've done this, getting the new version is honestly not less complicated. If you go to the flysimware dot com website, and click products, then click MSFS2020, then click the Chancellor that takes you to a page that has the latest changelog at the very bottom of the center column, showing you what the current version is. It is currently version 1.9.0. But that site doesn't actually have the download. To get that you have to go the top of the page, and on the left there's "Purchase Here" and click that which takes you over to the Flysimware *store* page for the Chancellor. Note: you can't just go directly here and find out the current version number on the store page, that's only on the product page. Go figure. And you can't download the update here either, but once you are at the store, you click on "sign in" and login with your password or click on your name in the top right corner if you are already logged in. From there you click "order history and downloads" which will bring up your order history, where you click on the order code for your Chancellor purchase, and once you click on that bellow will open up a box titled "Products" and bellow it is a hypertext link that says Flysimware Chancelloer etc. (And if you guessed there is no version number written anywhere on this page, you were right, but the download is always the latest version.) Click on that link and the download will start automatically. Don't forget to copy the registration key code directly bellow the link. Then once you've downloaded it you will extract and install the same way you did the first time. When it is time for verification it will automatically apply whatever is currently on your clipboard, so if the last thing you copied was the registration key, it will auto fill. Otherwise you'll have to go back and input it manually. They did originally send out update emails with links directly to the download page, but they stopped doing those since they were putting out so many updates, so now you have to do things the LONG way. I honestly really enjoy this plane and appreciate the effort that Flysimware has been putting in to it, but HOLY SMOKES THIS UPDATE PROCESS IS ABSOLUTE MADNESS.

Another excellent and enjoyable video, thank you! At 23:00 you activate AP Master on the unit below the Throttle but the AP light on Mode Selector never comes on. Then when you activate Alt. Alert, the aircraft maintains 11,000ft but the AP light still doesn't come on. Why not?

Thanks very much SilentGamer, glad you enjoyed it once again! Haha, that is (rather unusually) actually an "autopilot off" light. You can see it come on when I kill the autopilot during the descent. As I say, a bit unusual that one, not something I have seen before (thought the FSW C414 is based on a real aircraft, so I'm sure it's accurate). Cheers and all the best! : )

I have owned the cessna 310r for many months now and as brilliant as it is I feel like it's getting sort of repetitive, since its got very basic systems as well as an unpressurized cabin, do you think I should get the 414? if not what other options are there?

Hi Pixels, Whilst the 414 is a very nice addon, I think it will basically offer “more of the same” (in a way it’s even more simplistic, as no failures are modelled). What about one of the new single-engine turboprops? We have the FSR500, TMB 850 and PC-12; they all offer something a little bit different and a little bit more complex also (the TBM 850 is my personal favourite of the 3). The Black Square King Air is also very good, for another twin option. I hope that helps a little? All the best!

Not at the moment Landon (it's only available from the FSW website). The 414 is technically still in early access currently; I'm not sure whether the devs plan on brining it to the Marketplace once the aircraft is complete though. . . Sorry I can't be of more help on that one. All the best! : )

Haha "there are no stupid questions" and all that Ryan ; ) I usually have an iPad sitting in front of me and I can generally look down and read the checklists from there, without upsetting the camera too much - on occasion (when looking up at the overhead for example) it can be a little bit of a struggle though XD All the best! : )

Compared to the other aircraft, it has a weird motion in the air. Its like moving,rotating around the center of the mass which is not correct. Planes in the air doesn't behave like that.

Ah do you think so Istvan? I quite enjoy flying the 414 overall. Can't say I've flown the real thing, but I know that a real 414 owner is part of the FSW dev team. The aircraft is still technically in early-access as well, so things may still be adjusted before release I would imagine : ) All the best!
