I was stationed at Keflavik in the early 70's while the US military still controlled the base there. That's where I got my private license in the Navy aero club's Cherokee 140. We would do cross country flights to the damndest places. Grass fields where we would have to make a low pass to make sure all the sheep had cleared the runway. pure joy, like all of your videos, which are the best tutorials i have seen so far (you are the perfect flight instructor, i think you know that..), and for me personally memories, as a young man i did a south atlantic ferry, just me and a pa28 turbo arrow, from sal to recife, wild times.. may i ask you if you stand up and walk a bit on a long ferry flight, single pilot in a caravan, or a single hand flown jet...or use the bathroom if there is any ? i`m curious how far you trust your avionics.... btw, i am not informed if you are allowed to leave your seat in a single pilot operation, by lba or faa...

In those conditions, how far could you safely leave the aircraft on auto pilot? Amazing landing by the way.

You can use the autopilot limitations. Typically it is 160ft AGL on an ILS approach. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Thank you for inspiring me to pursure even more ambitious aviation dreams after getting my PPL-A recently. Picture quality is perfect! When watching on a big TV one can read every little text on the G1000 screens. If you want to further improve maybe tend to audio which is suffering a bit from clipping on radio. Be safe and I am looking forward to you next Video

hello Captain, nice video as always. could you please explain why ,in this case, the condition lever was kept on low idle during the flight? thank you!
@GuidoWarnecke2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pedro, the condition lever should be in high idle during flight. That was my mistake. Reason: on a go around, the engine will respond quicker. Happy landings, Capt. Guido

Very informative. And thank you for not putting music or some other annoying sound track over the top of the video. Too many other aviation channels try to make it a discotech video. lol

i love your videos. they are all very educational and entertaining. im no expert but from my pov the FCL seems to be near or at low idle from start to end of the vid.. hmmmm.
@GuidoWarnecke3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. You are correct on the FCL. It should be on high. Quiz question: do you know why? Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
@anadalicano3 жыл бұрын
First of all, i liked subscribed and clicked the notification bell capt. I also shared it to my peers. we are learning a lot from your vids. I did a research sir and i found out low idle is also called ground idle (54%Ng) and high idle is also called flight idle (65%Ng). It also says: "The higher gas generator idle speed for flight provides faster engine acceleration when adding power (from an idle condition) on approach or for a balked landing go-around." Please educate me captain. I was reading on the other comments to see if anyone else said something about the FCL before i posted mine. i thought someone else could have noticed, made a comment and a discussion was opened, but i didnt see any. so i was just curious sir and stated my observation.

Another great video. Thank you! I’ve never landed at Keflavik, but have made many eastbound crossings and landed at Reykjavik. Why are you not wearing a survival suit?
@GuidoWarnecke3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I used to wear a survival suit when ferrying piston engine aircraft - which I stopped. I keep the suit with me, knowing that the survival chances are zero - with or without suit. That is something you have to accept when ferrying aircraft over the cold waters of the North Atlantic. However, each pilot should make her/his own decision. Margit Waltz (900 crossings) does not wear the suit either, at least in the TBM. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
@aviatr20003 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! I didn’t wear a suit on my first crossing, (Duluth to Groningen) but pulled it on halfway on subsequent crossings. Totally understand your reasoning. (I wasn’t being critical of you not wearing it, just wondered.) Thank you again for the great content. Although binge watching your videos isn’t as good as dual instruction, it provides great value to listen and watch in real time. Blue skies, Captain!

Thank you so much! But why you don't set the red lever in full position? Is it some peculiarity of this aircraft or something else? Sorry for misunderstanding...
@GuidoWarnecke3 жыл бұрын
Hi Viktor, the red lever (condition lever) needs to be on high., My mistake. Quiz question: why should it be in high? Happy Landings, Capt. Guido

Awesome interesting video captain! May I ask why would one turn off the Yaw Damper at that stage of flying?
@GuidoWarnecke3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Yaniv. The yaw damper is a small autopilot that acts on the rudder. It stabilizes the aircraft agains yaw/roll movements. In small aircraft, the nose wheel steering is linked to the rudder pedals. So if you forget to switch the yaw damper off and land with it will still on, you have to fight against the yaw damper autopilot and steering on the ground is difficult! This is why I always switch off the yaw damper at some stage of the approach but definitely BEFORE landing. Have I forgotten it? Yes for sure! Big surprise when you want to steer and there is a lot of resistance in there rudder pedals with the yaw damper still on. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
@yanivcohen55063 жыл бұрын
@@GuidoWarnecke Ok now it's all very clear for me! Must be indeed surprising if you forget to switch it off haha. Thanks for the great explanation!
